Book Powered Adaptive Driving Controls

Download or read book Powered Adaptive Driving Controls written by S. Watson and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent technological advances have introduced automotive adaptive devices which either reduce the physical effort required to control and/or operate a vehicle or alter the way in which driver control initiatives are applied to the vehicle control systems. These adaptive devices provide the possibility of driving a vehicle for many drivers with disabilities. This report reviews the need for a recognized standard or guideline in Canada to ensure that powered adaptive controls installed in automobiles are designed, manufactured, and installed in a safe manner and function. It describes a study of two types of automotive adaptive controls, those that provide an external source of power to actuate existing vehicle controls and those that modify original equipment manufacturer components to alter the operation of vehicle control systems. A survey was conducted to identify the powered adaptive control products commonly prescribed by rehabilitation centres and installed by mobility equipment dealers/installers. Analysis of the products provides a description of their features and utility to a driver with disabilities, along with the modifications required to install the products in a vehicle. The report also incorporates a review of the work of the Adaptive Devices Committee of the Society of Automotive Engineers, which has developed recommended practices and test procedures. The report concludes with discussion of options available for implementing a national standard.

Book Power Converters Drives and Controls for Sustainable Operations

Download or read book Power Converters Drives and Controls for Sustainable Operations written by S. Ganesh Kumar and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-06-23 with total page 836 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: POWER CONVERTERS, DRIVES AND CONTROLS FOR SUSTAINABLE OPERATIONS Written and edited by a group of experts in the field, this groundbreaking reference work sets the standard for engineers, students, and professionals working with power converters, drives, and controls, offering the scientific community a way towards combating sustainable operations. The future of energy and power generation is complex. Demand is increasing, and the demand for cleaner energy and electric vehicles (EVs) is increasing with it. With this increase in demand comes an increase in the demand for power converters. Part one of this book is on switched-mode converters and deals with the need for power converters, their topologies, principles of operation, their steady-state performance, and applications. Conventional topologies like buck, boost, buck-boost converters, inverters, multilevel inverters, and derived topologies are covered in part one with their applications in fuel cells, photovoltaics (PVs), and EVs. Part two is concerned with electrical machines and converters used for EV applications. Standards for EV, charging infrastructure, and wireless charging methodologies are addressed. The last part deals with the dynamic model of the switched-mode converters. In any DC-DC converter, it is imperative to control the output voltage as desired. Such a control may be achieved in a variety of ways. While several types of control strategies are being evolved, the popular method of control is through the duty cycle of the switch at a constant switching frequency. This part of the book briefly reviews the conventional control theory and builds on the same to develop advanced techniques in the closed-loop control of switch mode power converters (SMPC), such as sliding mode control, passivity-based control, model predictive control (MPC), fuzzy logic control (FLC), and backstepping control. A standard reference work for veteran engineers, scientists, and technicians, this outstanding new volume is also a valuable introduction to new hires and students. Useful to academics, researchers, engineers, students, technicians, and other industry professionals, it is a must-have for any library.

Book Microcomputer Based Adaptive Control Applied to Thyristor Driven DC Motors

Download or read book Microcomputer Based Adaptive Control Applied to Thyristor Driven DC Motors written by Ulrich Keuchel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage technology transfer in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology impacts all areas of the control discipline. New theory, new controllers, actuators, sensors, new industrial processes, computing methods, applications, philosophies, . . . , new challenges. Much of this development work resides in industrial reports, feasibility study papers and the reports of advanced collaborative projects. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of such new work in all aspects of industrial control for wider and rapid dissemination. The autotune method of Astrom and Hagglund had a major impact on the hardware and structure of PID process controllers. However, despite a substantial body of theoretical analysis, progress in transferring the benefits of more general self-tuning methods to industrial devices and processes has been much slower. This volume by Dr's Stephan and Keuchel shows that this type of technology transfer can be achieved and that the more advanced adaptive controllers do give performance benefits over conventional industrial (three term) controllers. The volume also shows the requirements in hardware, the need for software skills and the engineering techniques required to achieve satisfactory results. We hope that by recording their engineering know-how more researchers and industrialists will be encouraged to tap the benefits of advanced self-tuning and adaptive control methods. The development of new semiconductor power components, new topologies of converters from one side coupled with advances in modern control theory and digital signal processors has made this book possible and presents the applications necessary for modern design engineers. The authors were originally brought together to share research and applications through the international Danfoss Professor Programme at Aalborg University in Denmark. ersonal computers would be unwieldy and inefficient without power electronic dc supplies. Portable communication devices and computers would also be impractical. High-performance lighting systems, motor controls, and a wide range of industrial controls depend on power electronics. In the near future we can expect strong growth in automotive applications, dc power supplies for communication systems, portable applications, and high-end converters. We are approaching a time when all electrical energy will be processed and controlled through power electronics somewhere in the path from generation to end use.
