Working with Captain John Rushton and his crew--those who piloted an alien craft in order to protect the earth from the initial threat of the Xzebulien aliens--the rats seek to help humans gain control of and learn to use the alien ships stored in Roswell, New Mexico--in Area 51. When Rushton and his crew learn to tap into the vast information in the alien ships' database, they discover the ultimate purpose and true nature of the Guardian ships--a purpose that ties in humanity's past with its future and with the rats who now work with them. As the crew continues to study the alien data, the path to the survival of the human race soon becomes clear: in order to defeat the alien threat once and for all, humans must take the next step in their evolution as a species. In this second volume of The Rat Chronicles, humans and rats must work together to fight both the danger of the present and a far and distant future where a universal, widespread cataclysmic event awaits.

Book This Is the Rat Speaking

Download or read book This Is the Rat Speaking written by Todd M. Mealy and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2017-03-24 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author of Aliened American: A Biography of William Howard Day, 18251900; Legendary Locals of Harrisburg; and Biography of an Antislavery City: Antislavery Advocates, Abolitionists, and Underground Railroad Activists The demise of the so-called Jim Crow laws in 1964 and 1965 and the victory of the civil rights movement rang hollow in the ears of most African Americans. While segregation was practiced in many places of the South, systemic forms of racism permeated northern society. As distrust pervaded African American communities after 1966, the maligned Black Panther Party filled the void, especially among baby boomers who moved the African American liberation movement further to the left. During this difficult time, when the country was torn apart by issues of race and poverty, as well as the escalation of the Vietnam War, unrest seemed to prevail at a myriad of colleges and universities across the United States where newly formed Afro-American societies and black student unions pressed for pedagogical change suited to the liberation doctrine coming from the black left. Spring 1969 was a particularly explosive semester as African American students occupied administrative buildings and common areas at both historically black and predominantly white colleges on the East Coast. In This Is the Rat Speaking, author Todd M. Mealy reconstructs the May 22, 1969, black student uprising at Franklin and Marshall College. Using Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and Franklin and Marshall College as his setting, Mealy revisits the role and influence of the Black Panthers and delves into how activism for black studies curriculum emerged within the black power movement of the 1960s. Based on oral history testimony, investigation reports, and judicial records, Mealy provokes discussion from different perspectives.

Book excerpt: Can the different pictures of Jesus in the New Testament be reconciled? Or are they simply simulations, the products of a virtual Gospel? 'Simulating Jesus' argues that the gospels do not represent four versions of one Jesus story but rather four distinct narrative simulacra, each of which is named "Jesus". The book explores the theory and evidence justifying this claim and discusses its practical and theological consequences. The simulations of Jesus in each of the gospels are analysed and placed alongside Jesus simulacra elsewhere in the Bible and contemporary popular culture. 'Simulating Jesus' offers a radical understanding of Scripture that will be of interest to students and scholars of biblical studies.

Book How to Love a Rat

    Book Details:
  • Author : Darcie DeAngelo
  • Publisher : Univ of California Press
  • Release : 2024-09-24
  • ISBN : 0520397401
  • Pages : 195 pages

Download or read book How to Love a Rat written by Darcie DeAngelo and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2024-09-24 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to Love a Rat takes place in a Cambodian minefield. Working amid hidden bombs, former war combatants use explosive-sniffing rats to clear mines from the land. In total, an estimated four to six million landmines in Cambodia have been left behind by wars that ended decades ago. This has created the conditions for a flourishing mine-clearance industry, where workers who were once enemy combatants may now be employed on the same clearance teams. Zeroing in on two distinct sets of feelings, Darcie DeAngelo paints a portrait of the love experienced between humans and rats and the suspicions felt between former adversaries turned coworkers. In doing so, she points to how human-animal relationships in the minefield produce models for relationality among people from opposing sides of war. The ways the deminers love for the rats mediate both the traumatic violence of the past and the uncertain dangers of the minefield. The book's stories depict an transformative postwar ecology emerging through human-nonhuman relationships, including those shared between humans and rats, landmines, and spirits.
