Book The Open Focus Brain

Download or read book The Open Focus Brain written by Les Fehmi and published by Shambhala Publications. This book was released on 2008-12-16 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A breakthrough, drug-free approach to stress and stress-related illnesses—from anxiety and depression to ADHD and chronic pain—using simple attention exercises with powerful results on physical and mental health This breakthrough book presents a disarmingly simple idea: The way we pay attention in daily life can play a critical role in our health and well-being. According to Dr. Les Fehmi, a clinical psychologist and researcher, many of us have become stuck in "narrow-focus attention": a tense, constricted, survival mode of attention that holds us in a state of chronic stress—and which lies at the root of common ailments including anxiety, depression, ADD, stress-related migraines, and more. To improve these conditions, Dr. Fehmi explains that we must learn to return to a relaxed, diffuse, and creative form of attention, which he calls "Open Focus." This highly readable and empowering book offers straightforward explanations and simple exercises on how to shift into a more calm, open style of attention that reduces stress, improves health, and enhances performance. The Open-Focus Brain features eight essential attention exercises for improving health. Dr. Fehmi writes, "Everyone has the ability to heal their nervous systems, to dissolve their pain, to slow down and yet accomplish more, to experience the deeper side of life—in short, to change their lives for the better dramatically." At last readers can learn the techniques that Dr. Fehmi has offered to thousands of clients—the same drug-free, safe, and effective techniques that have led to remarkable and long-lasting results. The eBook includes a downloadable audio program that provides further guidance on: • essential attention exercises from the book, led by Dr. Fehmi • how to "train the brain" to reduce stress, anxiety, chronic pain, and more • safe and effective techniques used in Dr. Fehmi's clinic for decades

  • ISBN : 0345472322
  • Pages : 322 pages

Download or read book Mindset written by Carol S. Dweck and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2007-12-26 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the renowned psychologist who introduced the world to “growth mindset” comes this updated edition of the million-copy bestseller—featuring transformative insights into redefining success, building lifelong resilience, and supercharging self-improvement. “Through clever research studies and engaging writing, Dweck illuminates how our beliefs about our capabilities exert tremendous influence on how we learn and which paths we take in life.”—Bill Gates, GatesNotes “It’s not always the people who start out the smartest who end up the smartest.” After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D., discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she shows how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. People with a fixed mindset—those who believe that abilities are fixed—are less likely to flourish than those with a growth mindset—those who believe that abilities can be developed. Mindset reveals how great parents, teachers, managers, and athletes can put this idea to use to foster outstanding accomplishment. In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. She introduces a phenomenon she calls false growth mindset and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mindset. She also expands the mindset concept beyond the individual, applying it to the cultures of groups and organizations. With the right mindset, you can motivate those you lead, teach, and love—to transform their lives and your own.

Book The Practicing Mind

    Book Details:
  • Author : Thomas M. Sterner
  • Publisher : New World Library
  • Release : 2012-04-12
  • ISBN : 1608680916
  • Pages : 170 pages

Download or read book The Practicing Mind written by Thomas M. Sterner and published by New World Library. This book was released on 2012-04-12 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In those times when we want to acquire a new skill or face a formidable challenge we hope to overcome, what we need most are patience, focus, and discipline, traits that seem elusive or difficult to maintain. In this enticing and practical book, Thomas Sterner demonstrates how to learn skills for any aspect of life, from golfing to business to parenting, by learning to love the process. Early life is all about trial-and-error practice. If we had given up in the face of failure, repetition, and difficulty, we would never have learned to walk or tie our shoes. So why, as adults, do we often give up on a goal when at first we don’t succeed? Modern life’s technological speed, habitual multitasking, and promises of instant gratification don’t help. But in his study of how we learn (prompted by his pursuit of disciplines such as music and golf), Sterner has found that we have also forgotten the principles of practice — the process of picking a goal and applying steady effort to reach it. The methods Sterner teaches show that practice done properly isn’t drudgery on the way to mastery but a fulfilling process in and of itself, one that builds discipline and clarity. By focusing on “process, not product,” you’ll learn to live in each moment, where you’ll find calmness and equanimity. This book will transform a sense of futility around learning something challenging into an attitude of pleasure and willingness.

Book Mind Power

  • Author : Jeff Heldrich
  • Publisher : Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
  • Release : 2017-04
  • ISBN : 9781545124116
  • Pages : 86 pages

Download or read book Mind Power written by Jeff Heldrich and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-04 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mind power: the ability to apply one's thoughts in a way that will assure you achieve your goals. Every human has the ability to apply his or her mind -- sometimes. Take for example the times when you were entranced in a novel. While playing a musical instrument. In a great conversation with a friend, or at a spellbinder of a movie. Total focus was achieved. But maybe at activities you are not to passionate about thoughts are scattered, and your cannot stay focused. Luckily for these times you can learn and practice focus strategies to improve your productivity. As with all good habits it will takes practice... whether it is playing catch football, dancing, typing, driving, or focusing. Ironically to learn these habits you will have to apply your focus as best as possible, unlike with medicine. When you take a medicine, it acts on the body without your having to help it. After following the steps in this book, you'll probably notice considerable improvement within four to six weeks of training your mind with some of the skills that follow. And that's a short period of time to reverse the conditioning from how many years you've spent not focusing and instead procrastinating. So, whenever you embark on a new task, my advice is to start by first improving your ability to focus-and from there, you can conquer whatever mountains you are meant to with your full potential. Lack of focus or productivity can negatively affect all areas of your life. But the good news is that it's treatable. And you can take small steps to achieve the goals you thought seemed impossible.

Book Brainstorm

Download or read book Brainstorm written by Daniel J. Siegel, MD and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2014-01-07 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this New York Times–bestselling book, Dr. Daniel Siegel shows parents how to turn one of the most challenging developmental periods in their children’s lives into one of the most rewarding. Between the ages of twelve and twenty-four, the brain changes in important and, at times, challenging ways. In Brainstorm, Dr. Daniel Siegel busts a number of commonly held myths about adolescence—for example, that it is merely a stage of “immaturity” filled with often “crazy” behavior. According to Siegel, during adolescence we learn vital skills, such as how to leave home and enter the larger world, connect deeply with others, and safely experiment and take risks. Drawing on important new research in the field of interpersonal neurobiology, Siegel explores exciting ways in which understanding how the brain functions can improve the lives of adolescents, making their relationships more fulfilling and less lonely and distressing on both sides of the generational divide.
