Book Review of the 21st Century Truck Partnership

Download or read book Review of the 21st Century Truck Partnership written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2008-10-19 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 21st Century Truck Partnership (21CTP), a cooperative research and development partnership formed by four federal agencies with 15 industrial partners, was launched in the year 2000 with high hopes that it would dramatically advance the technologies used in trucks and buses, yielding a cleaner, safer, more efficient generation of vehicles. Review of the 21st Century Truck Partnership critically examines and comments on the overall adequacy and balance of the 21CTP. The book reviews how well the program has accomplished its goals, evaluates progress in the program, and makes recommendations to improve the likelihood of the Partnership meeting its goals. Key recommendations of the book include that the 21CTP should be continued, but the future program should be revised and better balanced. A clearer goal setting strategy should be developed, and the goals should be clearly stated in measurable engineering terms and reviewed periodically so as to be based on the available funds.

Book Tire Use Survey

Download or read book Tire Use Survey written by Jack L. Harvey and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The review summarizes the results of two surveys of the physical condition and use of passenger car tires in the continental U.S.A.Based on the compiled evidence, some conclusions are drawn concerning the physical condition, use, and abuse of passenger car tires in service during these years, particularly with regard to tread depth, inflation pressures, and degree of overloading. The various estimates of tire disablement rates are compared, and contributions of tires to motor vehicle accidents explored. The report includes several recommendations directed toward upgrading the level of quality of passenger car tires in service, and reducing their abuse, with the hope and expectation that service performance will be improved, and contributions of tires to highway accidents reduced.(Author).

Book Tests to Determine the Adhesive Power of Passenger car Tires

Download or read book Tests to Determine the Adhesive Power of Passenger car Tires written by B. Förster and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 746 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of the adhesive power of a tire with respect to the road involves several properties which result from the purpose of the tire; namely, connecting link between vehicle and road: (1) The tire must transfer the tractive and braking forces acting in the direction of travel (tractive and braking adhesion); (2) The tire is to prevent lateral deviations of the vehicle from the desired direction of travel (track adhesion). Moreover, the rubber tire provides part of the springing of the vehicle. Above all, it has to level out the minor road irregularities; thus it smoothes, as it were, the road and simultaneously reduces the noise of driving. The springing properties of the tire affect the adhesive power. The tests described below comprise a determination of the braking and track adhesion of individual tires. The adhesion of driven wheels has not been investigated so far.
