Book Test Methods and Devices for Sintered Iron Rotating Bands

Download or read book Test Methods and Devices for Sintered Iron Rotating Bands written by J. D. Dale and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper is a discussion of the methods and devices used in testing the acceptability of sintered iron rotating bands, which are made by the powder metallurgy technique from commercial grades of iron powder. A state of urgency exists in the supply of copper available for the total military and civilian economy. For the third time in less than 50 years, the end uses of copper must be restricted to those where the combined physical or chemical properties, exclusive in copper, are most completely utilized. Several effective substitute materials are being developed to replace copper and gilding metal rotating bands, and among them is low-density sintered iron.

Book Perspectives in Powder Metallurgy Fundamentals Methods and Applications

Download or read book Perspectives in Powder Metallurgy Fundamentals Methods and Applications written by H. Hausner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Powder metallurgy literature in the English language includes a large number of books and several thousand articles in various journals. The rate of growth of this literature increases from year to year. It covers well the whole field of powder metallurg- materials, processes and products - with two exceptions: friction and antifriction branches of powder metallurgy. This lack of information has nothing to do with scientific or technical considerations, and definitely has nothing to do with lack of initiative in the development of these materials. The industry concerned with the production of friction and antifriction materials is continually developing new products and techniques and produc tion is steadily growing. However, most companies working on these materials regard their experiences and new advancements as "proprietary" and, for competitive reasons, are not interested in publishing in the technical literature except for very perfunctory and usually highly commercial papers. Very little work on fric tion and antifriction materials is going on in independent labora tories and university laboratories, although fundamental studies in this field offer very interesting aspects.

Book Machinability of Powder Metallurgy Steels

Download or read book Machinability of Powder Metallurgy Steels written by Andrej Šalak and published by Cambridge Int Science Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The machinability of powder metallurgy steels is poorer compared with wrought steels of appropriate composition and/or mechanical [properties. The reason for it is a larger number of material and processing variables affecting the final properties of a sintered material. Therefore the machining of powder metallurgy (PM) steels is a permanent subject of investigation and practice. The aim of the book is to make on the basis of present knowledge an overview of all interacting factors in machining process including those applied for the improvement of the machinability. There are the properties of basic plain iron and alloyed powders, various additions, compaction and sintering conditions. Effect of porosity, individual alloying elements and microstructure character is considered. The description of the basic machining processes with their characteristics and with the characteristics of the tool geometry belongs to the mentioned factors. For the improvement of machinability of PM steels different machining aids, as S, MnS, MoS2 and other are frequently used and their chemical and physical characteristics are given. The effect of various machining aids used on machinability of sintered plain iron, iron-carbon and of steels alloyed with Cu, Ni, Mo, Cr, Mn including powder forged steels with very different mechanical properties and very different microstructures is analysed and summarized. The high-speed steel, hardmetal and other tools with their geometry as the part of the cutting process are described in relation to the sintered powder materials. The recommendations for machining of various steels enclose the present knowledge about the machinability of powder metallurgy steels.

Book Densification of Metal Powders During Sintering

Download or read book Densification of Metal Powders During Sintering written by V. A. Invenson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-05-06 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sintering of powder metal compacts is one of the basic oper ations in powder metallurgy. The useful properties of a machine part are obtained after considerable densification of the sintered material. Although the mechanical properties of the part depend on other structural factors besides porosity, porosity is the main factor. Usually, the practical problem in sintering is to obtain a part with the desired or permissible porosity. Thus, knowledge of the laws governing densification and its final result is neces sary to control this process in the production of powder metal parts. The laws governing densification are also important for a more exact physical theory of sintering, which is still in the initial stages of its development. Such processes as the change in the density of lattice defects and the flow of crystalline substances during sintering have not yet received a complete physical inter pretation. Analysis of the laws of sintering may provide addition al material for more complete phenomenological characteristics of these processes that will be useful for further development of theoretical concepts of the flow of imperfect crystals under small loads. Although a substantial amount of experimental material has been accumulated, generalizations are still difficult.
