Book Manganese in Powder Metallurgy Steels

Download or read book Manganese in Powder Metallurgy Steels written by Andrej Šalak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-07-13 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work in three parts presents a summary of the sintered manganese steel properties from 1948 to 2011 involving processing conditions and other characteristics. In the first and third part are given results attained by the authors based on their finding that manganese (cheapest element) during sintering evaporates and by this the vapour cleans the sintering atmospheres from humidity. The second part presents other positive properties of manganese steels in spite of the doubt of oxidation of manganese during sintering and by this excluding the sintering manganese steels what hinderd the use of manganese in production of sintered parts. All results confirm that only manganese vapour according to finding of the authors ensures effective sintering of manganese steels and parts independently on the authors mind. It follows finally from the work that manganese is possible to use for alloying of powder steels sintered also in practice in H/N atmospheres with low purity and also in pure nitrogen - cheaper than hydrogen without some of the associated problems. Current trends in the field are also presented to the reader.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of the position of ferrous powder metallurgy, the author deals with the theoretical fundamentals and technical and technological aspects of the current state of knowledge in ferrous powder metallurgy so that special attention may be given to all factors influencing parts and materials with the required properties, form and dimensions, stressing their higher economic efficiency. The book also shows the extensive possibilities for further development of ferrous powder metallurgy and should therefore contribute to increasing the level of general and detailed knowledge of experts working in this area and should help in transition from fabrication of parts by conventional methods with all typical economic and ecological shortcomings to fabrication by powder metallurgy methods.

Book Metal Matrix Composites in Industry

Download or read book Metal Matrix Composites in Industry written by Alexander Evans and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal matrix composites are making tangible inroads into the "real" world of engineering. They are used in engineering components such as brake rotors, aircraft parts, combustion engines, and heat sinks for electronic systems. Yet, outside a relatively limited circle of specialists, these materials are mostly unknown. Designers do not as a rule think of using these materials, in part because access to information is difficult as these materials have not really entered engineering handbooks. Metal Matrix Composites in Industry is thus useful to engineers who wish to gain introductory knowledge of these materials and who want to know where "to find" them. Additionally, it provides researchers and academics with a survey of current industrial activity in this area of technology.

Book Science and Technology of the Undercooled Melt

Download or read book Science and Technology of the Undercooled Melt written by P.R. Sahm and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY OF '!HE UNDEROLED MELT" This title was chosen as the topical headline of the Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) from March 17 to 22 1985, held at the Castle of Theuern. The usual term "Rapid Solidification" is an overlapping description. Due to the fact that nucleation is so eminently important for the undercooling of a melt and this, in turn, is an important characteristic of rapid solidifi cation, undercooling plays an essential role in "rapid solidification." The undercooled melt has caused an "accelerated evolution" (if not a revolution) in materials science during the last decade. Several rather exciting concepts with interesting potential for novel applications are being pursued presently in various laboratories and companies. They concern not only new processes and ha~ware developments, but also present chal lenging perspectives for ventures, including the founding of new companies; or they promise growth possibilities with established larger and smaller industrial establishments.
