Book Struggling Amidst Plenty

Download or read book Struggling Amidst Plenty written by Subir Grewal and published by Subir Grewal. This book was released on 2020-03-28 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By: Subir Grewal We can’t solve our economic problems until we venture upstream, where few go, to discover what the true problem is. Many people out there can sense something is deeply wrong with our system of money and finance, and that the effects of it are far-reaching. However, most also don’t know the full scope of it, and how to put it all into words, so we can diagnose the root cause and then set out to fix it. That’s where this book comes in. · Written by a financial industry veteran, C.P.A., and reformed owner of a degree in economics, who can’t bear to silently watch this flawed, outdated, and yet obscure system of money & finance crush humanity. · We go behind the curtain in monetary economics, with simple explanations in layperson’s terms on topics often thought to be complex. No background in economics is required. From this, the reader will gain financial and monetary literacy on the pressing problems of today, why the status quo in economics is unable to solve them, and what needs to change. · This is THE book on inequality and what drives it. We demystify the entire monetary/financial system, show how it’s rooted in arbitrary special privilege, and explain the math of how it systematically creates a society with major inequality. · Puts forth a comprehensive solution, fit for modern times, that could help solve inequality, high debt, and “too big to fail” all at once. These ideas come from actual economists with PhDs; the author is just a translator for the layperson. (The solution is not a gold standard, Bitcoin, or more government borrowing, either.) We’ll also get into why this solution has been systematically suppressed, and why it will be tough for economists alone to solve these problems for us. · This book is non-partisan and not married to any “ism.” You’ll see how many prominent people on BOTH the “Left” and “Right” have supported the solutions proposed. · You can download it for free. Payment is voluntary and suggested at $5.00 (it can be more/less.) No strings attached, no future e-mails. This is just about getting vital information out there.

Book The Poverty Paradox

Download or read book The Poverty Paradox written by Mark Robert Rank and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-03-29 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paradox of poverty amidst plenty has plagued the United States throughout the 21st century--why should the wealthiest country in the world also have the highest rates of poverty among the industrialized nations? Based on his decades-long research and scholarship, one of the nation's leading authorities provides the answer. In The Poverty Paradox, Mark Robert Rank develops his unique perspective for understanding this puzzle. The approach is what he has defined over the years as structural vulnerability. Central to this new way of thinking is the distinction between those who lose out at the economic game versus why the game produces losers in the first place. Americans experiencing poverty tend to have certain characteristics placing them at a greater risk of impoverishment. Yet poverty results not from these factors, but rather from a lack of sufficient opportunities in society. In particular, the shortage of decent paying jobs and a strong safety net are paramount. Based upon this understanding, Rank goes on to detail a variety of strategies and programs to effectively alleviate poverty in the future. Implementing these policies has the added benefit of reinforcing several of the nation's most important values and principles. The Poverty Paradox represents a game changing examination of poverty and inequality. It provides the essential blueprint for finally combatting this economic injustice in the years ahead.

Book Monetary Reform in Theory and Practice Routledge Revivals

Download or read book Monetary Reform in Theory and Practice Routledge Revivals written by Paul Einzig and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-07-16 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1936, this book gives the reader an insight into the tendencies and spirit of the monetary reform movement as a whole, as accomplished or proposed since the First World War. The author marks the consideration of the overall reform as being more important than specifically looking at the actual proposals and measures involved, and the views he attributes to the various monetary reform schools are therefore composite views of the various factions of those schools. As a comparatively recent convert to the idea of monetary reform, at the time of writing, the author offers a balanced view of the subject as he also has extensive experience of the ideas of the orthodox monetary system. However, he does not believe that monetary reform alone can achieve the desired end without considerable economic planning. Indeed, he suggests that the monetary reform movement he discusses desperately needs to adopt a broader perspective and thus, he suggests a compromise.

Book Poverty and Austerity amid Prosperity

Download or read book Poverty and Austerity amid Prosperity written by Gregg M. Olsen and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In wealthy nations such as Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, issues of poverty and homelessness have often been displaced or sidelined by the accelerating number of studies on income inequality and wealth disparity. In Poverty and Austerity amid Prosperity, Gregg M. Olsen refocuses our attention on rising levels of poverty and homelessness, suggesting what we can do to address these issues. Highlighting the important differences between Canada, the UK, and the US, this volume explores the broad and narrow ways that poverty and homelessness have been conceptualized, and how this has shaped the way they are defined, measured, and addressed in each country. After a careful examination of poverty in these three countries, the volume draws comparisons with European nations that have been more successful in keeping issues relating to poverty under control. Olsen presents and critically contrasts the two main theoretical traditions, individual versus society, that have emerged to explain poverty and homelessness. Olsen argues that societal approaches to the study of poverty are better equipped to explain the developments unfolding across these nations, and that the eradication of poverty will only happen when the socio-economic system has been seriously overhauled and founded upon economic democracy."--
