Book Pour Une Approche Linguistique Et Pragmatique Du Texte Litteraire

Download or read book Pour Une Approche Linguistique Et Pragmatique Du Texte Litteraire written by Ligia Florea and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-04-04 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This collection of eighteen French and English linguistic essays is bilingual: French essays are followed by English summaries, and vice versa. The topics, while quite varied, belong to the lexico-semantico-textual area of linguistics. Examples of topics dealt with: lexical and terminological formation and semantics (neology, synonymy, metaphor, definition, motivation); text linguistics; English-French comparison; linguistic theory (structure, openness of the lexical system, poststructuralism); linguistics of specialized language and terminology (area in which the author has particularly gained international recognition); descriptions of the poetic language (Hugo's octopus metaphors, language and translations of a play by Shakespeare and Fletcher). The author's linguistics is reason-oriented rather than postmodern, his analysis is empirically based on texts, opting for a 'recognitive' rather than a generative approach. The language of the essays is not formalyzed, it is a clear specialized natural language. The essays are provided with extensive bibliographies and with a detailed index of terms and authors.

Book Naming and Mapping the Gods in the Ancient Mediterranean

Download or read book Naming and Mapping the Gods in the Ancient Mediterranean written by Thomas Galoppin and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-12-31 with total page 1274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ancient religions are definitely complex systems of gods, which resist our understanding. Divine names provide fundamental keys to gain access to the multiples ways gods were conceived, characterized, and organized. Among the names given to the gods many of them refer to spaces: cities, landscapes, sanctuaries, houses, cosmic elements. They reflect mental maps which need to be explored in order to gain new knowledge on both the structure of the pantheons and the human agency in the cultic dimension. By considering the intersection between naming and mapping, this book opens up new perspectives on how tradition and innovation, appropriation and creation play a role in the making of polytheistic and monotheistic religions. Far from being confined to sanctuaries, in fact, gods dwell in human environments in multiple ways. They move into imaginary spaces and explore the cosmos. By proposing a new and interdiciplinary angle of approach, which involves texts, images, spatial and archeaeological data, this book sheds light on ritual practices and representations of gods in the whole Mediterranean, from Italy to Mesopotamia, from Greece to North Africa and Egypt. Names and spaces enable to better define, differentiate, and connect gods.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although semiotics has, in one guise or another, ftourished uninterruptedly since pre Socratic times in the West, and important semiotic themes have emerged and devel oped independently in both the Brahmanie and Buddhistic traditions, semiotics as an organized undertaking began to 100m only in the 1960s. Workshops materialized, with a perhaps surprising spontaneity, over much ofEurope-Eastern and Western and in North America. Thereafter, others quickly surfaced almost everywhere over the litera te globe. Different places strategically allied themselves with different lega eies, but all had a common thrust: to aim at a general theory of signs, by way of a description of different sign systems, their comparative analysis, and their classifi cation. More or less permanent confederations were forged with the most diverse academic disciplines, and amazingly varied frameworks were devised-suited to the needs of the times and the sites-to carry the work of consolidation forward. Bit by bit, mutually supportive international networks were put together. Today, it can truly be asserted that semiotics has become a global enterprise. This, of course, is far from saying that the map is uniform or even that world-wide homogeneity is in the least desirable. While our conjoint ultimate goal remains steadily in focus, the multiplicity of avenues available for its realization is inherent in the advent ure of the search itself.

Book Doing Identity in Luxembourg

Download or read book Doing Identity in Luxembourg written by IPSE - Identités Politiques Sociétés Espaces and published by transcript Verlag. This book was released on 2014-03-31 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Luxembourg - international financial center, European administrative center, destination country for immigration? This empirical study provides insights about a society that has hitherto largely eluded scientific investigation and observes the processes of identity construction in globalised conditions. The interdisciplinary team of authors exposes the processes of subjective appropriations and institutional attributions at work in the fields of languages, spaces, perceptions of self and others as well as everyday cultures, and identifies for the first time socio-cultural milieus in the Grand Duchy. The findings of the three-year research project uncover the ambivalences and dynamics of a multicultural and multilingual society.
