Book Groundwater Depletion in the United States 1900 2008

Download or read book Groundwater Depletion in the United States 1900 2008 written by Leonard F Konikow and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-08-01 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A natural consequence of groundwater withdrawals is the removal of water from subsurface storage, but the overall rates and magnitude of groundwater depletion in the United States are not well characterized. This study evaluates long- term cumulative depletion volumes in 40 separate aquifers or areas and one land use category in the United States, bringing together information from the literature and from new analy- ses. Depletion is directly calculated using calibrated ground- water models, analytical approaches, or volumetric budget analyses for multiple aquifer systems. Estimated groundwater depletion in the United States during 1900-2008 totals approx- imately 1,000 cubic kilometers (km3). Furthermore, the rate of groundwater depletion has increased markedly since about 1950, with maximum rates occurring during the most recent period (2000-2008) when the depletion rate averaged almost 25 km3 per year (compared to 9.2 km3 per year averaged over the 1900-2008 timeframe).

Book Groundwater around the World

Download or read book Groundwater around the World written by Jean Margat and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-03-19 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a unique and up-to-date summary of what is known about groundwater on our planet, from a global perspective and in terms of area-specific factual information. Unlike most textbooks on groundwater, it does not deal with theoretical principles, but rather with the overall picture that emerges as a result of countless observations,

Book Hydrogeology of Morgan Valley Morgan County Utah

Download or read book Hydrogeology of Morgan Valley Morgan County Utah written by Janae Wallace and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2012-01-16 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report characterizes the relationship of geology to groundwater occurrence and flow, with emphasis on determining the thickness of the valley-fill aquifer and water yielding properties of the fractured rock aquifers. Develops a water budget for the drainage basin and classifies the groundwater quality and identifies the likely sources of nitrate in groundwater.

Book The Geology of the Kamas Coalville Region Summit County Utah and Its Relation to Ground water Conditions

Download or read book The Geology of the Kamas Coalville Region Summit County Utah and Its Relation to Ground water Conditions written by Hugh A. Hurlow and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2002 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kamas-Coalville region is in the Middle Rocky Mountains physiographic province, about 30 miles east of the Wasatch Front urban area. Rapid population growth and increased water use are the impetus for a collaborative study of water resources in the Kamas-Coalville region, which includes geologic and hydrologic components. This study describes the geologic framework of the Kamas-Coalville region, emphasizing geologic features that most strongly influence ground-water occurrence, flow, and development. The main topics include: (1) the stratigraphy and structural geology of bedrock, (2) the nature and geometry of unconsolidated deposits in Kamas Valley, (3) the hydrostratigraphy of the study area, and (4) the structure of bedrock units below Kamas Valley. 55 pages + 15 plates

Book Ground Water in Hard Rocks

Download or read book Ground Water in Hard Rocks written by Ingemar Larsson and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current manuals and technical books on ground water hydrology contain relatively little specific information on ground water in hard rocks areas, that is mainly igneous and metamorphic rocks of the Precambrian shield areas. This work is intented to fill this gap and to inform of the possibilities of finding and developing water resources in hard rocks areas

Download or read book Karst Management written by Philip E. van Beynen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-21 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing specifically on the management of karst environments, this volume draws together the world’s leading karst experts to provide a vital source for the study and management of this unique physical setting. Although karst landscapes cover 12% of the Earth’s terrain and provide 25% of the world’s drinking water, the resource management of karst environments has only previously received indirect attention. Through a comprehensive approach, Karst Management focuses on engineering issues associated with surface karst such as quarries, dams, and agriculture, subsurface topics such as the management of groundwater, show caves, cave biota, and geo-archaeology projects. Chapters that focus on karst as an integrated system look at IUCN World Heritage sites, national parks, policy and regulation, measuring systematic disturbance, information management, and public environmental education. The text incorporates the most up-to-date research from leading karst scientists. This volume provides important perspectives for university students, educators, geoengineers, resource managers, and planners who are interested in or work with this unique physical landscape.
