Download or read book The Triazine Herbicides written by Janis Mc Farland Ph.D. and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-08-19 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past 50 years, triazines have made a great impact on agriculture and world hunger by assisting in the development of new farming methods, providing greater farming and land use capabilities, and increasing crop yields. Triazines are registered in over 80 countries and save billions of dollars a year. The Triazine Herbicides is the one book that presents a comprehensive view of the total science and agriculture of these chemicals. With emphasis on how the chemicals are studied and developed, reviewed, and used at the agricultural level this book provides valuable insight into the benefits of triazine herbicides for sustainable agriculture. - Presents previously unpublished information on the discovery, development and marketing of herbicides - Includes a vital section on the origin, use, economics and fate of triazine herbicides - Covers benefits of triazines in corn and sorghum, sugarcane, citrus, fruit and nut crops - Establishes best management practice and environmental benefits of use in conservation tillage

Download or read book Invasive Plants Ecological and Agricultural Aspects written by S. Inderjit and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-16 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Invasive plants have an impact on global biodiversity and ecosystem function, and their management is a complex task. The aim of this book is to discuss fundamental questions of invasion ecology, such as why particular communities become more invasible than others, what the mechanisms of exclusion of native species by invaders are, and whether invasion can be predicted. In addition, agricultural practices influencing invasion, the environmental and economic costs of invasion as well as possible management strategies are discussed. Readers will get a unique perspective on invasion ecology through employing general principles of ecology to plant invasions.
Download or read book Recent Advances in Weed Management written by Bhagirath S. Chauhan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-10 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume addresses recent developments in weed science. These developments include conservation agriculture and conservation tillage, climate change, environmental concerns about the runoff of agrochemicals, resistance of weeds and crops to herbicides, and the need for a vastly improved understanding of weed ecology and herbicide use. The book provides details on harnessing knowledge of weed ecology to improve weed management in different crops and presents information on opportunities in weed management in different crops. Current management practices are also covered, along with guidance for selecting herbicides and using them effectively. Written by experts in the field and supplemented with instructive illustrations and tables, Recent Advances in Weed Management is an essential reference for agricultural specialists and researchers, government agents, extension specialists, and professionals throughout the agrochemical industry, as well as a foundation for advanced students taking courses in weed science.

Download or read book Ecology of Soil Seed Banks written by Mary Allessio Leck and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecology of Soil Seed Banks examines the factors that influence seed bank dynamics and the variety of patterns found among different species. This book presents seed banks in a community context to explore the ecological implications of different patterns, and thus begin the development of a synthesis by comparing various communities. Organized into five parts, this book first examines the general processes that influence inputs or losses from the seed bank, including predation, dormancy/germination mechanisms, and their evolutionary importance. Then, this text examines seed banks in a community context. Only eight vegetation types are included, but the range in diversity of life form, length of growing season, and dominant environmental conditions allow comparisons of seed bank patterns. This book also explores the role of seed banks in vegetation management. This reference material will be a valuable reference material to population and community ecologists and managers. Evolutionary consequences of seed banks should be of interest to population and theoretical biologists.
Download or read book The Population Structure of Vegetation written by J. White and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-09 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Vegetation Science is growing. After the first volumes und er my editorship have appeared the interest of the scientific community has been revived and many new volume editors have started their work. The present volume wasjointly designed by Drs. J. White and W. Beeftink. Due to unforseen developments Dr. White signs now as the sole editor. The development of this volume within the series had a special history as Dr. White pointsout in his preface. Adding to this I need only to state that I found it essential to include the topic of this volume into a Hand book of Vegetation Science. lt was included therefore in my first revised Iist of topics to be included in the Handbook when I took over from Dr. Tüxen. It is a great pleasure for me to see this volume appear. Having read through the many contributions to this volume I can certainly congratu late Drs. White and Beeftink for their success in generating so much interest in this volume among their colleagues. The cooperation on this volume is forme the first sign that the new concept of the Handbook has been understood by the generation of scientists which I have to address. The influence this volume will have on the field ofplant population studies only time can teil. It appears to me, however, that this volume will become a standard resource for some future. Dr. White asked me to have this volume dedicated to Dr. Rabotnov.
Download or read book Weed Physiology written by Stephen O. Duke and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 2 deals with the mechanisms of herbicide action and of resistance and tolerance to herbicides. The first five chapters of this volume cover the effects of herbicides and adjuvants on the physiology of plants. Professor Black‘s chapter begins by covering the effects of herbicides on photosynthesis, including photosynthetic assimilation of nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphorus. This is followed by Dr. Morelands chapter on herbicide interactions with plant respiration. The third chapter by Professor Bartels deals with the effects of herbicides on chloroplast and cellular development with emphasis on correlating physiological information with ultrasound effects.
