Book A Positron Accumulator Ring for APS

Download or read book A Positron Accumulator Ring for APS written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new positron injection scheme is as follows. The cycle rate of the injector synchrotron is increased to 2 Hz. During 0.4 sec of each 0.5-sec synchrotron cycle, 24 linac pulses are injected into the horizontal phase space of the PAR at a 60-Hz rate. Each injected pulse occupies about 1/3 of the circumference of the accumulator ring. After 0.1 sec for longitudinal damping, the single accumulated bunch is transferred into one of the 352.96-MHz buckets of the injector synchrotron RF system. This single bunch is accelerated to 7 GeV and transferred into the storage ring while the PAR accumulates the next bunch of positrons. The injector synchrotron requires only the one high-frequency RF system.

Book Commissioning of the Argonne Positron Accumulator Ring

Download or read book Commissioning of the Argonne Positron Accumulator Ring written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Advanced Photon Source (APS) injector consists of a 250-MeV electron linac, a 450-MeV positron linac, a 450-MeV positron accumulator ring (PAR), and a 7-GeV synchrotron. The purpose of the PAR is to accumulate and damp positrons from the 60-Hz linac during each cycle of the 2-Hz synchrotron, thus increasing the fill rate for the main ring. This paper discusses the rapid progress of PAR commissioning. Less than a year was required from first acceptance of beam to transfer of PAR operations to the APS Operations Group. PAR has been well characterized and already meets most of its design specifications. An accurate model has been developed for linear and chromatic properties. Hardware improvements are planned to allow specifications to be fully met.

Book Construction and Commissioning of the Positron Accumulator Ring for the APS

Download or read book Construction and Commissioning of the Positron Accumulator Ring for the APS written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The injector for the Advanced Photon Source (APS) incorporates a 450-MeV positron accumulator ring (PAR) to accumulate and damp positrons from the 60Hz linac during each cycle of the 2-Hz synchrotron. An overview of PAR hardware is presented. Commissioning of the PAR is well underway using electrons. Studies have produced a modified lattice model using three free parameters that agrees well with measurements. Principle problems are high leakage fields from the septum and ion trapping.

Book The Positron Accumulator Ring for the APS

Download or read book The Positron Accumulator Ring for the APS written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Positron Accumulator Ring (PAR) is designed to accumulate and damp positrons from the 450-MeV linac during the 0.5-s cycle time of the injector synchrotron for the APS 7-GeV storage ring. During 0.4 s of each synchrotron cycle, up to 24 linac pulses are injected into the horizontal phase space of the PAR at a 60-Hz rate. Each injected pulse occupies about 1.3 of the circumference of the accumulator ring. After 0.1 s for longitudinal damping, the single accumulated bunch is transferred to one of the 353-MHz buckets of the injector synchrotron RF system. The bunch is accelerated to 7 GeV and transferred to the storage ring, while the PAR accumulates the next bunch of positrons. 2 refs., 3 figs., 2 tabs.

Book SLC Positron Damping Ring Optics Design

Download or read book SLC Positron Damping Ring Optics Design written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basic SLAC Linear Collider operation scheme assumes the use of two damping rings, one for the e−, one for the e, in order to reduce the colliding beam normalized emittances to 30 .pi. .mu.radm hence raising the corresponding luminosity by a factor 170. The e− damping ring optics, designed by H. Wiedemann, has been extensively studied and modelled since it's completion at the end of 1982. The e damping ring being built will be based on the same design except for some modifications resulting from the studies on the e− damping ring which clearly pointed out two major weak points as far as the optics is concerned. The present paper describes the basic modifications of the ring lattice and main equipment positions in order to improve the situation in the Positron Damping Ring. 16 refs., 2 figs., 1 tab.

Book Analysis of Positron Collection in the Linear Collider

Download or read book Analysis of Positron Collection in the Linear Collider written by Yuri K.af SLAC. Batygin and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Linear Collider, the positron capture system includes a positron production target, an adiabatic matching device (AMD), and a linac to accelerate positrons up to the injection energy of the positron damping ring. Efficiency of the positron collector is defined by the number of positrons accepted into the damping ring. Analysis of the positron collection system is performed using a conventional scheme, where positrons are produced by a high-energy electron beam hitting the high-Z target. The collection system has been optimized to insure high positron capture into the 6-dimensional acceptance of the damping ring. Various parameters affecting the positron capture are analyzed.

Book Positron Collection in Linear Collider

Download or read book Positron Collection in Linear Collider written by Y. K. Batygin and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Linear Collider design, the positron capture system includes a positron production target, followed by an adiabatic matching device (solenoid), a pre-linac with solenoidal focusing, and a linac with quadrupole focusing before injection into a positron damping ring. Two schemes for positron production have been studied: (1) a conventional approach with high-energy electron beam interacting with a high-Z target and (2) polarized positron production using polarized photons generated in a helical undulator by a primary collider electron beam which then interact with a positron production target. The capture efficiencies for both schemes are compared. Various parameters affecting the positron capture are analyzed.

Book Update on the Argonne Positron Accumulator Ring

Download or read book Update on the Argonne Positron Accumulator Ring written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The injector for the Advanced Photon Source incorporates a 450-MeV positron accumulator ring (PAR) to decrease the filling time with the 2-Hz synchrotron. In addition to accumulating positrons from the linac, the PAR damps the beam and reduces the bunch length. The PAR lattice has been redesigned to use zero-gradient dipoles, while retaining essentially the same damping partition. Extensive simulations have been performed to set tolerances that will give high capture efficiency, in spite of the large momentum spread of the incoming positron beam.

Book Energy Matching of 1 2 GeV Positron Beam to the SLC Stanford Linear Collider Damping Ring

Download or read book Energy Matching of 1 2 GeV Positron Beam to the SLC Stanford Linear Collider Damping Ring written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Positrons collected at the SLC positron source are transported over a 2-km path at 220 MeV to be reinjected into the linac for acceleration to 1.2 GeV, the energy of the emittance damping ring. Since the positron bunch length is a significant fraction of a cycle of the linac-accelerating RF, the energy spread at 1.2 GeV is considerably larger than the acceptance of the linac-to-ring (LTR) transport system. Making use of the large pathlength difference at the beginning of the LTR due to this energy spread, a standard SLAC 3-m accelerating section has been installed in the LTR to match the longitudinal phase space of the positron beam to the acceptance of the damping ring. The design of the matching system is described, and a comparison of operating results within simulations is presented. 5 refs., 4 figs., 1 tab.

Book High yield Positron Systems for Linear Colliders

Download or read book High yield Positron Systems for Linear Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linear colliders, such as the SLC, are among those accelerators for which a high-yield positron source operating at the repetition rate of the accelerator is desired. The SLC, having electron energies up to 50 GeV, presents the possibility of generating positron bunches with useful charge even exceeding that of the initial electron bunch. The exact positron yield to be obtained depends on the particular capture, transport and damping system employed. Using 31 GeV electrons impinging on a W-type converter phase-space at the target to the acceptance of the capture rf section, the SLC source is capable of producing, for every electron, up to two positrons within the acceptance of the positron damping ring. The design of this source and the performance of the positron system as built are described. Also, future prospects and limitations for high-yield positron systems are discussed. 11 refs., 5 figs., 3 tabs.

Book Upgraded Cavities for the Positron Accumulator Ring of the APS

Download or read book Upgraded Cavities for the Positron Accumulator Ring of the APS written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Upgraded versions of cavities for the APS positron accumulator ring (PAR) have been built and are being tested. Two cavities are in the PAR: a fundamental 9.8-MHz cavity and a twelfth harmonic 117.3-MHz cavity. Both cavities have been manufactured for higher voltage operation with improved Q-factors, reliability, and tuning capability. Both cavities employ current-controlled ferrite tuners for control of the resonant frequency. The harmonic cavity can be operated in either a pulsed mode or a CW mode. The rf properties of the cavities are presented.
