Book Quantum Probability for Probabilists

Download or read book Quantum Probability for Probabilists written by Paul A. Meyer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the classical theory of stochastic integration and stochastic differential equations has been extended to a non-commutative set-up to develop models for quantum noises. The author, a specialist of classical stochastic calculus and martingale theory, tries to provide an introduction to this rapidly expanding field in a way which should be accessible to probabilists familiar with the Ito integral. It can also, on the other hand, provide a means of access to the methods of stochastic calculus for physicists familiar with Fock space analysis. For this second edition, the author has added about 30 pages of new material, mostly on quantum stochastic integrals.

Book Positive Definite Matrices

Download or read book Positive Definite Matrices written by Rajendra Bhatia and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents the first synthesis of the considerable body of new research into positive definite matrices. These matrices play the same role in noncommutative analysis as positive real numbers do in classical analysis. They have theoretical and computational uses across a broad spectrum of disciplines, including calculus, electrical engineering, statistics, physics, numerical analysis, quantum information theory, and geometry. Through detailed explanations and an authoritative and inspiring writing style, Rajendra Bhatia carefully develops general techniques that have wide applications in the study of such matrices. Bhatia introduces several key topics in functional analysis, operator theory, harmonic analysis, and differential geometry--all built around the central theme of positive definite matrices. He discusses positive and completely positive linear maps, and presents major theorems with simple and direct proofs. He examines matrix means and their applications, and shows how to use positive definite functions to derive operator inequalities that he and others proved in recent years. He guides the reader through the differential geometry of the manifold of positive definite matrices, and explains recent work on the geometric mean of several matrices. Positive Definite Matrices is an informative and useful reference book for mathematicians and other researchers and practitioners. The numerous exercises and notes at the end of each chapter also make it the ideal textbook for graduate-level courses.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The unifying theme of this collection of papers by the very creative Russian mathematician I. M. Gelfand and his co-workers is the representation theory of groups and lattices. Two of the papers were inspired by application to theoretical physics; the others are pure mathematics though all the papers will interest mathematicians at quite opposite ends of the subject. Dr. G. Segal and Professor C-M. Ringel have written introductions to the papers which explain the background, put them in perspective and make them accessible to those with no specialist knowledge in the area.

Book Infinite Dimensional Analysis Quantum Probability And Related Topics Qp38 Proceedings Of The International Conference

Download or read book Infinite Dimensional Analysis Quantum Probability And Related Topics Qp38 Proceedings Of The International Conference written by Noboru Watanabe and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-10-25 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume aims to return to the starting point of the fields of infinite dimensional analysis and quantum probability, fields that are growing rapidly at present, and to seriously attempt mutual interaction between the two, with a view to enumerating and solving the many fundamental problems they entail. For such a purpose, we look for interdisciplinary bridges in mathematics including classical probability and to different branches of physics, in particular, research for new paradigms for information science on the basis of quantum theory.

Download or read book Collected Papers II written by Israel M. Gelfand and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1988-09-09 with total page 1060 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I.M. Gelfand (1913 - 2009), one of the world's leading contemporary mathematicians, largely determined the modern view of functional analysis with its numerous relations to other branches of mathematics, including mathematical physics, algebra, topology, differential geometry and analysis. In this three-volume Collected Papers Gelfand presents a representative sample of his work. Gelfand's research led to the development of remarkable mathematical theories - most of which are now classics - in the field of Banach algebras, infinite-dimensional representations of Lie groups, the inverse Sturm-Liouville problem, cohomology of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras, integral geometry, generalized functions and general hypergeometric functions. The corresponding papers form the major part of the collection. Some articles on numerical methods and cybernetics as well as a few on biology are also included. A substantial number of the papers have been translated into English especially for this edition. The collection is rounded off by an extensive bibliography with almost 500 references. Gelfand's Collected Papers will be a great stimulus, especially for the younger generation, and will provide a strong incentive to researchers.

Book Advances in Quantum Dynamics

Download or read book Advances in Quantum Dynamics written by Geoffrey L. Price and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2003 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the conference on Advances in Quantum Dynamics. The purpose of the conference was to assess the current state of knowledge and to outline future research directions of quantum dynamical semigroups on von Neumann algebras. Since the appearance of the landmark papers by F. Murray and J. von Neumann, On the Rings of Operators, von Neumann algebras have been used as a mathematical model in the study of time evolution of quantum mechanical systems.Following the work of M. H. Stone, von Neumann, and others on the structure of one-parameter groups of unitary transformations, many researchers have made fundamental contributions to the understanding of time-reversible dynamical systems. This book deals with the mathematics of time-irreversiblesystems, also called dissipative systems. The time parameter is the half-line, and the transformations are now endomorphisms as opposed to automorphisms. For over a decade, W. B. Arveson and R. T. Powers have pioneered the effort to understand the structure of irreversible quantum dynamical systems on von Neumann algebras. Their papers in this volume serve as an excellent introduction to the theory. Also included are contributions in other areas which have had an impact on the theory, such asBrownian motion, dilation theory, quantum probability, and free probability. The volume is suitable for graduate students and research mathematicians interested in the dynamics of quantum systems and corresponding topics in the theory of operator algebras.

Book Theory of Reproducing Kernels and Applications

Download or read book Theory of Reproducing Kernels and Applications written by Saburou Saitoh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-14 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a large extension of the general theory of reproducing kernels published by N. Aronszajn in 1950, with many concrete applications. In Chapter 1, many concrete reproducing kernels are first introduced with detailed information. Chapter 2 presents a general and global theory of reproducing kernels with basic applications in a self-contained way. Many fundamental operations among reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces are dealt with. Chapter 2 is the heart of this book.Chapter 3 is devoted to the Tikhonov regularization using the theory of reproducing kernels with applications to numerical and practical solutions of bounded linear operator equations. In Chapter 4, the numerical real inversion formulas of the Laplace transform are presented by applying the Tikhonov regularization, where the reproducing kernels play a key role in the results.Chapter 5 deals with ordinary differential equations; Chapter 6 includes many concrete results for various fundamental partial differential equations. In Chapter 7, typical integral equations are presented with discretization methods. These chapters are applications of the general theories of Chapter 3 with the purpose of practical and numerical constructions of the solutions. In Chapter 8, hot topics on reproducing kernels are presented; namely, norm inequalities, convolution inequalities, inversion of an arbitrary matrix, representations of inverse mappings, identifications of nonlinear systems, sampling theory, statistical learning theory and membership problems. Relationships among eigen-functions, initial value problems for linear partial differential equations, and reproducing kernels are also presented. Further, new fundamental results on generalized reproducing kernels, generalized delta functions, generalized reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces, andas well, a general integral transform theory are introduced. In three Appendices, the deep theory of Akira Yamada discussing the equality problems in nonlinear norm inequalities, Yamada's unified and generalized inequalities for Opial's inequalities and the concrete and explicit integral representation of the implicit functions are presented.

Book Harmonic Analysis on Semigroups

Download or read book Harmonic Analysis on Semigroups written by C. van den Berg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fourier transform and the Laplace transform of a positive measure share, together with its moment sequence, a positive definiteness property which under certain regularity assumptions is characteristic for such expressions. This is formulated in exact terms in the famous theorems of Bochner, Bernstein-Widder and Hamburger. All three theorems can be viewed as special cases of a general theorem about functions qJ on abelian semigroups with involution (S, +, *) which are positive definite in the sense that the matrix (qJ(sJ + Sk» is positive definite for all finite choices of elements St, . . . , Sn from S. The three basic results mentioned above correspond to (~, +, x* = -x), ([0, 00[, +, x* = x) and (No, +, n* = n). The purpose of this book is to provide a treatment of these positive definite functions on abelian semigroups with involution. In doing so we also discuss related topics such as negative definite functions, completely mono tone functions and Hoeffding-type inequalities. We view these subjects as important ingredients of harmonic analysis on semigroups. It has been our aim, simultaneously, to write a book which can serve as a textbook for an advanced graduate course, because we feel that the notion of positive definiteness is an important and basic notion which occurs in mathematics as often as the notion of a Hilbert space.
