She was now two-thirds of the way to the safety fence as she lifted her gaze from the pendant. The portal was iridescent and shimmering. A kaleidoscope of symmetry and energy in an intricate dance of spiraling colours. It was as though someone had taken a rainbow arch and crumpled it like a piece of paper. The topology looked infinite in complexity, but seemed to follow some rules of interplay. Katelyn thought of the numerous fractal art generators she had played with, but this occupies three dimensional space...

Book Stranger Cities Australian Creation and the Ambidextrous Mind a Profile of Portal Modernity

This book was released on 2023-06-19 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stranger Cities explores the metaphysics of Australian society and the clash between its competing strands of romantic culture and classic civilization. The social expression, artistic resonance, economic significance, civic character, historic phases, mythic representations, creative antinomies, and imaginative contribution of these metaphysical fundamentals form the background of Australia’s distinctive urban civilization with its bustling stranger populations, ocean-facing portal cities, revealing art and architecture, and cyclical worlds of markets and industries, war and peace. Murphy portrays a classic eudemonic society whose dominant ethos of phlegmatic happiness vies with a subsidiary current of melancholic and choleric romanticism.

  • Pages : 139 pages

Download or read book Multispace written by Owen Hopkins and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-10-30 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guest-edited by Owen Hopkins Multispace exists at the intersection of the physical and digital, and in the blurring of their previously clear dividing lines. Multispace is not a single space, but a hybrid space where, in effect, we occupy multiple spaces simultaneously. We enter it on a Zoom call, when we are in our office and in a meeting with 20 people; when we are cycling down a country lane whilst racing against thousands of others who also use the Strava app; when we are watching a TV show while live tweeting; or, perhaps most literally, when wandering around the local park looking for creatures that only appear on a smartphone screen. A fundamental question of this AD is why the phenomena that multispace describes are of concern to architects. The answer is that multispace points to a situation that is at root an architectural one. Offering both a collective and highly personalised experience, static and dynamically customisable, and above all at the same time public and private, multispace lies at the centre of a set of tensions, concerns and preoccupations at the core of our conception of architecture as theory and practice. It is the messy space between, with rough and uneven edges that are constantly shifting. Contributors: Aleksandra Belitskaja, Alice Bucknell, Jesse Damiani, Wendy Fok, Andrew Kovacs, Lara Lesmes and Fredrik Hellberg, Micaela Mantegna, Holly Nielsen, Giacomo Pala, Paula Strunden, Lucia Tahan, and Francesca Torello and Joshua Bard. Robert J. LaCosta draws from thirty years as a specialist in the field of hearing to guide us to elevate our natural senses to discover the supernatural. Using daily vignettes as a launching pad, the devotional doubles as a journal for readers to pen their own portals. God is anything but an absentee Father. God has designed our lives to consistently stumble upon His love, care, beauty and creativity. "Portals to Heaven" heightens your awareness of the clues God is dropping everywhere and every day. Everyone needs a touch of heaven...now! This rich and clever combination of analogy, symbolism and allegory is pithy yet provoking and inspiring but friendly. Sense God's presence and you will sense His peace and leading.

Book The Creation of Eve and Renaissance Naturalism

Download or read book The Creation of Eve and Renaissance Naturalism written by Jack M. Greenstein and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-08-23 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Depicting the Creation of Woman presented a special problem for Renaissance artists. The medieval iconography of Eve rising half-formed from Adam's side was hardly compatible with their commitment to the naturalistic representation of the human figure. At the same time, the story of God constructing the first woman from a rib did not offer the kind of dignified, affective pictorial narrative that artists, patrons, and the public prized. Jack M. Greenstein takes this artistic problem as the point of departure for an iconographic study of this central theme of Christian culture. His book shows how the meaning changed along with the form when Lorenzo Ghiberti, Andrea Pisano, and other Italian sculptors of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries revised the traditional composition to accommodate a naturalistically depicted Eve. At stake, Greenstein argues, is the role of the artist and the power of image-making in reshaping Renaissance culture and religious thought.
