Book Sydney s Aboriginal Past

Download or read book Sydney s Aboriginal Past written by Val Attenbrow and published by UNSW Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revealing the diversity of Aboriginal life in the Sydney region, this study examines a variety of source documents that discuss not only Aboriginal life before colonization in 1788 but also the early years of first contact. This is the only work to explore the minutiae of Sydney Aboriginal daily life, detailing the food they ate; the tools, weapons, and equipment they used; and the beliefs, ceremonial life, and rituals they practiced. This updated edition has been revised to include recent discoveries and the analyses of the past seven years, adding yet more value to this 2004 winner of the John Mulvaney award for best archaeology book from the Australian Archaeological Association. The inclusion of a special supplement that details the important sites in the Sydney region and how to access them makes the book especially appealing to those interested in visiting the sites.

Book Intriguing Port Sydney Stories Photos

Download or read book Intriguing Port Sydney Stories Photos written by Ryan Kidd and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2020-07-28 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The people of Port Sydney and Mary Lake upon which it is located were unique. They arrived with the first rush of settlers. They were also well educated and were “characters”. Yes the area followed the usual pattern ...lumbering, the era of the lodges and eventually cottagers and their supporting trades....but the community left its indelible mark in its development because of these unique people. I hope that I have been able to demonstrate this in the book. This book is meant to follow the other two books: ‘These Memories I Leave to You and the Newcomers” The selection of material is thus limited to: What is available. What has not been dealt with in these previous books. I hope that you enjoy the stories.

Book Transformation of Sydney s Industrial Historic Waterfront

Download or read book Transformation of Sydney s Industrial Historic Waterfront written by Ece Kaya and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-26 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the impacts of tourism-led transformations on the industrial historical waterfront at Darling Harbour and The Rocks in Sydney, Australia in the context of urban restructuring and deindustrialisation. The book also offers an extended reflection on the paradoxes between tourism and heritage. This discussion is not a new concept. However, this book critically explores the significance of the industrial heritage assets of these areas and the implications of the transformation procedures. Although Darling Harbour and The Rocks have generally been considered success stories of transformation with mixed touristic, recreational, residential and commercial activities, this book examines and evaluates how industrial history and heritage values have been affected. It demonstrates that tourism/leisure-led developments create urban landscapes in which cultural identity and historical assets are sacrificed and/or reinvented.
