Download or read book Cutting Edge Enabling Technologies for Regenerative Medicine written by Heung Jae Chun and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores in depth the latest enabling technologies for regenerative medicine. The opening section examines advances in 3D bioprinting and the fabrication of electrospun and electrosprayed scaffolds. The potential applications of intelligent nanocomposites are then considered, covering, for example, graphene-based nanocomposites, intrinsically conductive polymer nanocomposites, and smart diagnostic contact lens systems. The third section is devoted to various drug delivery systems and strategies for regenerative medicine. Finally, a wide range of future enabling technologies are discussed. Examples include temperature-responsive cell culture surfaces, nanopatterned scaffolds for neural tissue engineering, and process system engineering methodologies for application in tissue development. This is one of two books to be based on contributions from leading experts that were delivered at the 2018 Asia University Symposium on Biomedical Engineering in Seoul, Korea – the companion book examines in depth novel biomaterials for regenerative medicine.

Book Bone Cements and Cementing Technique

Download or read book Bone Cements and Cementing Technique written by U. Henze and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: G. H. I. M. WALENKAMP, D. W. MURRAY Since the first use of bone cement, there has been much discussion about this important tool in arthroplasty. Many authors consider the cemented prosthesis as the gold standard when evaluating the outcome of primary prostheses. In a large number of total hip arthroplasties, as registered in the Scandi navian Hip Registers, important differences in revision risks have been docu mented between hospitals. These differences are partly due to the use of di verse cement techniques. In the analysis of data, the influence of these tech niques, as well as the different cement types, is clear. A recent disaster with a newly developed cement also illustrated that the quality of the cement must be assured, and that the introduction of a new material must be carefully prepared and followed-up. The new Palamed cement has been developed by the makers of the well known Palacos and Refobacin Palacos, which appeared to be the best ce ments in the Swedish register. An improvement was noted in slightly better handling characteristics, but the end product is the same as Palacos. As men tioned, this cement will be carefully followed-up in the near future. However, its introduction is a good reason to gather the expertise of some of the lead ing figures in the field in this book. Book PMMA Cements

    Book Details:
  • Author : Klaus-Dieter Kühn
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2014-01-02
  • ISBN : 9783642415357
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book PMMA Cements written by Klaus-Dieter Kühn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-01-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cementing endoprostheses is one of the most frequently performed orthopedic procedures in the world today. PMMA cements are used to anchor artificial joints. They fill up the free space between the prosthesis and bone and constitute a very important elastic zone. Owing to their optimal rigidity the cement can evenly buffer the forces acting against the bone. Although the bone cement which are currently commercially available are all based on the same chemical substance (methyl methacrylate = MMA), their physical and chemical properties differ. The completely revised second addition of the book “PMMA (Bone) Cements” could not have a better timing. In a contemporary overview about biological, physical and chemical characteristics of PMMA cement, physicians, material developers, pharmacists, microbiologist, and economists should gain a basic understanding of the subject. It should also serve them as a reference book. In particular for future physicians and hospital personnel numerous questions will be addressed which have been posed during trainings, congresses and expert gatherings concerning the use of PMMA cement in the operating theater in a save and competent way. Also for decision makers at the hospital administration a comprehensive platform has been created which can be used as a basis of their assessment.
