But have you ever stopped to think about why, when it comes to porn, we just can't seem to get enough? And are we certain this supposedly "cheap form of harmless entertainment" isn't changing the way we see ourselves and others? Enter Michael Leahy, a guy who spent over 30 years as a recreational user of pornography. That is until he discovered what many experts refer to as "the crack cocaine of sexual addiction"- Internet porn. What happened next would change everything, not just for Michael and his family, but for all of us living in this Porn Nation. This discussion guide is designed for small groups and youth groups to get people thinking and talking about the effects of pornography in their lives. It can accompany either Porn Nation: Conquering America's #1 Addiction or Porn Nation: Student Edition.

Book Facebook Nation

  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2022-02-02
  • ISBN : 1071618679
  • Pages : 571 pages

Download or read book Facebook Nation written by Newton Lee and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-02 with total page 571 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores total information awareness empowered by social media. At the FBI Citizens Academy in February 2021, I asked the FBI about the January 6 Capitol riot organized on social media that led to the unprecedented ban of a sitting U.S. President by all major social networks. In March 2021, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey appeared before Congress to face criticism about their handling of misinformation and online extremism that culminated in the storming of Capitol Hill. With more than three billion monthly active users, Facebook family of apps is by far the world's largest social network. Facebook as a nation is bigger than the top three most populous countries in the world: China, India, and the United States. Social media has enabled its users to inform and misinform the public, to appease and disrupt Wall Street, to mitigate and exacerbate the COVID-19 pandemic, and to unite and divide a country. Mark Zuckerberg once said, "We exist at the intersection of technology and social issues." He should have heeded his own words. In October 2021, former Facebook manager-turned-whistleblower Frances Haugen testified at the U.S. Senate that Facebook's products "harm children, stoke division, and weaken our democracy." This book offers discourse and practical advice on information and misinformation, cybersecurity and privacy issues, cryptocurrency and business intelligence, social media marketing and caveats, e-government and e-activism, as well as the pros and cons of total information awareness including the Edward Snowden leaks. "Highly recommended." - T. D. Richardson, Choice Magazine "A great book for social media experts." - Will M., AdWeek "Parents in particular would be well advised to make this book compulsory reading for their teenage children..." - David B. Henderson, ACM Computing Reviews

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Netporn delves into the aesthetics and politics of sexuality in the era of do-it-yourself (DIY) Internet pornography. Katrien Jacobs, drawing on digital media theory and interviews with Web porn producers and consumers, offers an unprecedented critical analysis of Web culture as digital artistry and of the corresponding heightened government surveillance and censorship of the Internet. Netporn features Web users who question the goals of global commercial porn industries-whether they are engaged in Usenet fringes, video blogging, peer-to-peer distribution, porn art collectives, or decadent amateurism. Emphasizing gender and cultural differences, Jacobs shows how the creative uses of netporn images and services are important ways of exploring or redefining the 'network body' and indispensable ingredients of a maturing network society.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1970s a group of pioneering feminist entrepreneurs launched a movement that ultimately changed the way sex was talked about, had, and enjoyed. Boldly reimagining who sex shops were for and the kinds of spaces they could be, these entrepreneurs opened sex-toy stores like Eve’s Garden, Good Vibrations, and Babeland not just as commercial enterprises, but to provide educational and community resources as well. In Vibrator Nation Lynn Comella tells the fascinating history of how these stores raised sexual consciousness, redefined the adult industry, and changed women's lives. Comella describes a world where sex-positive retailers double as social activists, where products are framed as tools of liberation, and where consumers are willing to pay for the promise of better living—one conversation, vibrator, and orgasm at a time.

Book Gay Pornography

  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book Gay Pornography written by John Mercer and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-03-30 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gay pornography, online and onscreen, is a controversial and significantly under-researched area of cultural production. In the first book of its kind, Gay Pornography: Representations of Sexuality and Masculinity explores the iconography, themes and ideals that the genre presents. Indeed, John Mercer argues that gay pornography cannot be regarded as one-dimensional, but that it offers its audience a vision of plural masculinities that are more nuanced and ambiguous than they might seem. Mercer examines how the internet has generated an exponential growth in the sheer volume and variety of this material, and facilitated far greater access to it. He uses both professional and amateur examples to explore how gay pornography has become part of a wider cultural context in which modern masculinities have become 'saturated' by their constantly evolving status and function in popular culture.

  • Author : Jessica Johnson
  • Publisher : Duke University Press
  • Release : 2018-04-19

Download or read book Biblical Porn written by Jessica Johnson and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2018-04-19 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1996 and 2014, Mark Driscoll's Mars Hill Church multiplied from its base in Seattle into fifteen facilities spread across five states with 13,000 attendees. When it closed, the church was beset by scandal, with former attendees testifying to spiritual abuse, emotional manipulation, and financial exploitation. In Biblical Porn Jessica Johnson examines how Mars Hill's congregants became entangled in processes of religious conviction. Johnson shows how they were affectively recruited into sexualized and militarized dynamics of power through the mobilization of what she calls "biblical porn"—the affective labor of communicating, promoting, and embodying Driscoll's teaching on biblical masculinity, femininity, and sexuality, which simultaneously worked as a marketing strategy, social imaginary, and biopolitical instrument. Johnson theorizes religious conviction as a social process through which Mars Hill's congregants circulated and amplified feelings of hope, joy, shame, and paranoia as affective value that the church capitalized on to grow at all costs.

Book Pornography and its devastating consequences of the women and children in India

Download or read book Pornography and its devastating consequences of the women and children in India written by Dr. Dominic F Dixon and published by Dominic F Dixon. This book was released on 2017-06-14 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this Paper is to identify objectively, the role of pornography in the cases of rape and sexual assault and deviant behaviour. Research indicates that many of the youth in India who have been engaged in pornography, have acted out on innocent victims to the point of molesting and raping them. There have been several instances of men acting out on their wives, what they saw during pornography, thus treating their wives as sex objects, and as a commodity. This family situation contributes to separation and divorces. While the crime of rape has always existed, there however now exists an epidemic of rapes crimes, no matter how tough the laws against this crime may be. If such harsh punishments such as the death penalty and life sentences are not stopping people from committing this crime, then there has to be a greater reason as to why men still rape women. A man who is poor and hungry, steals food to soothe his hunger
