Book Bulletin on Population and Vital Statistics in the Escwa Region

Download or read book Bulletin on Population and Vital Statistics in the Escwa Region written by United Nations and published by United Nations Publications. This book was released on 2010-04-21 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) presents the twelfth issue of the Bulletin on Population and Vital Statistics in the ESCWA Region. The Bulletin provides detailed information on the population of the ESCWA region and its vital events: births, deaths, marriages and divorces. It presents this information in three parts: population; fertility and mortality; and marriage and divorce. In this issue, the Bulletin presents the main indicators for each vital event. These indicators have been computed using national data, weighted by population estimates from the 2008 Revision of the World Population Prospects, prepared by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. Major changes have been introduced to produce a completely revised Bulletin, in which both quality and relevance of disseminated data are enhanced. The objective of these changes is to provide a more effective tool for monitoring comparable data and indicators. This bilingual publication is in English and Arabic.

Book Mobilizing Human Resources in the Arab World RLE Economy of Middle East

Download or read book Mobilizing Human Resources in the Arab World RLE Economy of Middle East written by R. Paul Shaw and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-05-15 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: R. Paul Shaw has travelled widely in the Arab world, obtaining data and gathering impressions first-hand from national and local planners. In this book, he identifies population and manpower problems that are likely to become more serious and more difficult to solve if they are neglected at this early stage of Arab development. He focuses on five broad areas which are directly or indirectly related to mobilizing human resources, and his book will be of special interest to all those who are concerned with such issues as population, migration, employment, inequality, the emancipation of women, construction and agriculture. Dr Shaw proposes policy directives which are sensitive to the problems as they are seen by the Arab governments themselves, and sets out practical guidelines which can be used by Arab planners and policy-makers. An important feature of the book with respect to current literature on Arab development is that it moves away from a preoccupation with growth-related investments to a concentration on development-related population, manpower and employment issues. By bringing together such comprehensive empirical and bibliographic information, it will also be invaluable as a reference source for some twenty Arab countries. First published in 1983.

Book Population and Development of the Arab Gulf States

Download or read book Population and Development of the Arab Gulf States written by Nadeya Sayed Ali Mohammed and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thought-provoking study measures and critically examines the effects that an average population growth rate of 2.8% could have on the development of the Arab Gulf States. It questions the ability of Gulf governments to continue providing relatively high standards of education, health and employment under conditions of rapid population growth, an undiversified economic base, and a tribal political framework. Within this context, population growth is identified as one important variable that hinders long-term development. The book will appeal to all those interested in the Middle East, demography, development and sociology.

Book The Arab State

    Book Details:
  • Author : Giacomo Luciani
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2015-07-24
  • ISBN : 131741151X
  • Pages : 433 pages

Download or read book The Arab State written by Giacomo Luciani and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-07-24 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has often been argued that Arab states are arbitrary political creations, lacking historical or present legitimacy. This book, first published in 1990, provides a different picture of ‘the Arab state’, drawing on historical, economic, philosophical and sociological perspectives to give a balanced and convincing view of the complex reality of contemporary Arab politics. The contributors, from the Arab countries, from Europe and the United States, investigate the roots of the nation state in the Arab world, evaluating in particular the economic bases of individual states. They discuss the evolution of Arab societies and the way this is reflected in different states, and examine the problems of domestic and international integration in the Arab context. Original and comprehensive in its findings, this is an essential text on the fundamental political structure of the Arab world. Its interdisciplinary breadth makes possible an entirely new reading of the political reality of the Middle East.

Book Arab Manpower RLE Economy of Middle East

Download or read book Arab Manpower RLE Economy of Middle East written by J.S. Birks and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-07-26 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Arab world increasingly falls into two divisions, the capital-poor and the capital-rich countries (where capital means, in essence, oil). In the capital-rich countries shortage of labour is the chief constraint on growth. In the capital-poor countries analysis of the labour market is equally central, as shortage of labour compounds the already existing problem of shortage of capital. This book surveys the labour markets of the Arab world state by state, evaluating them by demand and supply analysis, and analysing the different elements in trends of employment. It forecasts the areas of stress in the next decade and suggests ways of minimising them. The book, based on much previously unpublished information and on extensive on-the-spot research in the respective Arab countries, sets out the economic and social conditions which underly the impending crisis of development in the Arab region. First published in 1980.

Book Families and Social Change in the Gulf Region

Download or read book Families and Social Change in the Gulf Region written by Jennifer E. Lansford and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-09-14 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely volume explores the impact of dramatic social change that has disrupted established patterns of family life and human development in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council. It addresses several major deficits in knowledge regarding family issues in the Gulf countries, bringing a critical perspective to the emerging challenges facing families in this region. Lansford, Ben Brik, and Badahdah examine the role of urbanization, educational progress, emigration, globalization, and changes in the status of women on social change, as well as tackling issues related to marriage, fertility and parenthood, and family well-being. This book explores how family relationships and social policies can promote physical health, psychological well-being, social relationships, safety, cognitive development, and economic security in the Gulf countries, placing a unique emphasis on contemporary families in this region. Families and Social Change in the Gulf Region is essential reading for scholars from psychology, sociology, education, law, and public policy. It will also be of interest to graduate students in these disciplines.

Book The Politics of Arab Integration

Download or read book The Politics of Arab Integration written by Giacomo Luciani and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-07-16 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, first published in 1988, is the result of a major research project, the most important inquiry into the fundamental political structure of the Arab world. It is often argued that Arab states are arbitrary political creations that lack historical or present legitimacy and are unable to relate to each other in a productive way. It is further suggested that the demise of pan-Arabism merely underlines the inability of individual Arab states to integrate either domestically or internationally. This book, Volume Four in the Nation, State and Integration in the Arab World research project carried out by the Istituto Affari Internazionali, sets out to answer the questions of Arab integration, with articles from a wide range of contributors from around the world.
