Population projections for the area are based on forecast employment opportunities. The 1990 employment projection for the Prentiss area of 1,940 jobs represents an increase of approximately 500 over the 1970 figure. Almost half these new jobs are forecast in the manufacturing category. The 1990 Prentiss planning area population is forecast at 3,400. The town of Prentiss forecast for 1990 is 2,600. The report discusses and forecasts personal income, wholesale and retail trade, and makes recommendations for area economic development.

The analysis of past and present trends in primary and secondary industry employment results in employment forecasts for the major industrial categories. The manufacturing employment forecast for 1990 is 8,545, an increase of 4,385 over the 1968 figure. The forecast results from projections of two types of manufacturing employment increases: (1) normal growth from expansion of existing industries and from location of new industries for reasons other than proximity to the Mississippi River, and (2) attraction of new river-oriented manufacturing companies. A 1990 labor force forecast of 31,768 is the basis for projecting the 1990 county population at 70,596. The county projection breaks down to 32,325 for th City of Vicksburg and 57,571 for the planning area. The report also discusses and forecasts personal income, retail trade and wholesale trade.
