Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Days of Caesar is a constructive political theology formulated in sustained dialogue with the Pentecostal and charismatic renewal one of the most vibrant religious movements at the beginning of the twenty-first century. Amos Yong here argues that the many tongues, practices, and gifts of renewal Christianity offer up new resources for thinking about how Christian community can engage and transform the social, political, and economic structures of the world. Yong has three goals here. First he seeks to correct stereotypes of Pentecostalism, both political and theological. Secondly he aims to provoke Pentecostals to reflect theologically from out of the depths of their own Pentecostalism rather than merely to adopt some framework for theological or political self-understanding. Finally Yong shows that a distinctively Pentecostal form of theological reflection is not a parochial activity but has constructive potential to illuminate Christian belief and practice. This book s engagement with political theology from a Pentecostal perspective is the first of its kind.

Book Man God Religion and State

Download or read book Man God Religion and State written by Desmond Clarke and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2023-08-18 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Man, God, Religion, and State, is a reflection on our physical, philosophical, and political, past, present, and possible future. This book may challenge the religious views of some readers, but it is not my intention to cause offence to any religious believer. We are all living in a time of anxiety and insecurities, which may prevent us from embracing our humanity. But we should never allow either the pain and sorrow of the past or the threats and fears of the present to obscure our vision of what is just and truthful. Our present socioeconomic relationships are based on injustice and falsehood, which is unsustainable. We must therefore adjust our level and rates of consumption before we cross the line of no-return. In this sense, Man, God, Religion, and State is a warning to us all.

Book What on Earth

  • Author : Philip Blair
  • Publisher : James Clarke & Co.
  • Release : 1993
  • ISBN : 9780718828639
  • Pages : 152 pages

Download or read book What on Earth written by Philip Blair and published by James Clarke & Co.. This book was released on 1993 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Do we properly understand what it is that the Church should be seeking to accomplish on earth in heaven's name'" This crucial question, at the heart of Philip Blair's thought-provoking and challenging book, is one that is seldom confronted by those vast numbers of professing Christians who are overly preoccupied by the world and its affairs. He argues that the Church was appointed to be the single custodian and teacher of a new and distinctive revelation about man's potential in Christ, and that it is this task which she is compromising, and even at times abandoning, by entering the political arena. In Part I of this book, Dr Blair establishes his argument by tracing the Church's history over nearly 2,000 years, illustrating her many oscillations between faithfulness and apostasy, and in Part II looks at Christian origins in order to identify the real nature of the Church and her Gospel. Scholarly, well-researched, cogently argued and logically developed, while Dr Blair's analysis may appear at some points highly controversial, this merely indicates how timely is his attempt to redress what has become a serious imbalance in much modern Christian thought.

Book Church and Theology in the Nineteenth Century

Download or read book Church and Theology in the Nineteenth Century written by Ferdinand Christian Baur and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-03-14 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last volume of Baur's church history, based on lectures delivered during the 1850s, covers the nineteenth century. They were edited and published by Eduard Zeller after Baur's death. Since the lectures devote equal attention to theological and ecclesiastical matters, the title in English is Church and Theology in the Nineteenth Century. Baur provides critical analyses of the philosophers and theologians of the nineteenth century (Herder, Schiller, Goethe, Kant, Fichte, Schelling, Jacobi, Schleiermacher, Marheineke, Neander, Mohler, Hegel, Strauss, Feuerbach, and many others), as well as details about European Catholic and Protestant church history from 1800 to 1860. What he produces is a "participant history," written by a scholar very much engaged in the issues of his time. Ferdinand Christian Baur was a professor of theology at the University of Tubingen from 1826 to 1860. He is known for his path-breaking studies in New Testament literature and historical theology. Recent translations of his work by Brown and Hodgson include History of Christian Dogma and Lectures on New Testament Theology.
