Download or read book Evil Penguins written by Elia Anie and published by Elia Anie. This book was released on 2013-03-06 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Penguins. They’re everywhere—gracing movie screens, Coke ads, and merchandise. But don’t let those happy feet fool you. When they’re not surfing or marching bravely across the Antarctic, penguins have a whole other agenda going on. And it isn’t pretty. In Evil Penguins, Elia Anie captures the antics of cute little birds who have gone over to the dark side. If you thought the worst a penguin could do is make you feel guilty about global warming, think again. A must-have for both penguin lovers and those who know that evil can come in even the cuddliest packages. “A fun and breezy read. Anie channels The Far Side with great success and maintains an acidic, devious tone throughout the entire book.” - Ain’tItCool.com Very funny and witty, with a dark nod, wink and a smile throughout." - The Penguin Post

Book Salience of Information in Japanese

Download or read book Salience of Information in Japanese written by Mitsuaki Shimojo and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2024-04-04 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Salience' is a linguistic phenomenon whereby information that is 'given', or 'new', is distributed and presented within a sentence in particular ways that convey its relevance. Although it has been widely described as the speaker's linguistic choices based on the hearer's perspective, it has received less attention as the speaker's manipulations of the hearer's cognitive states. This timely study redresses that balance by analysing several morphosyntactic phenomena in Japanese, drawing on a wide range of authentic language examples. Taking a functionalist perspective, it brings together studies of grammar and discourse, which are often described separately, and deploys the combined grammar-discourse approach in Role and Reference Grammar, the structural-functionalist theory in which syntax, semantics, and pragmatics are equally central to our understanding of language. It also offers an analysis of second language (L2) learners' Japanese discourse, and demonstrates the relevance of that analysis to issues outside of traditional second language research.

Book The Birds World

    Book Details:
  • Author : Nicolae Sfetcu
  • Publisher : MultiMedia Publishing
  • Release : 2014-11-27
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 1478 pages

Download or read book The Birds World written by Nicolae Sfetcu and published by MultiMedia Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-27 with total page 1478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Birds are among the most extensively studied of all animal groups. Hundreds of academic journals and thousands of scientists are devoted to bird research, while amateur enthusiasts (called birdwatchers or, more commonly, birders) probably number in the millions. Birds are categorised as a biological class, Aves. The earliest known species of this class is Archaeopteryx lithographica, from the Late Jurassic period. According to the most recent consensus, Aves and a sister group, the order Crocodilia, together form a group of unnamed rank, the Archosauria. Phylogenetically, Aves is usually defined as all descendants of the most recent common ancestor of modern birds (or of a specific modern bird species like Passer domesticus), and Archaeopteryx. Modern phylogenies place birds in the dinosaur clade Theropoda. Modern birds are divided into two superorders, the Paleognathae (mostly flightless birds like ostriches), and the wildly diverse Neognathae, containing all other birds.
