Download or read book Pomerania Place Name Indexes written by Roger Phillip Minert and published by Grt Publications. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For the first time, a reverse alphabetical index is available to the public. Such indexes have been known and valued among researchers in the Family History Library for some time, but none have been available in print or microform. The Reverse Alphabetical Index allows the researcher to determine the name of a town when the first part of the name (whether one or more letters) is missing. This is a common problem caused by torn pages, ink blots, tight bindings, poor microfilm quality, etc. By using this index, the researcher can also determine the official spelling for towns when variant spellings occur in old records. The book includes a regular alphabetical index of all the towns in the province as well as regular and reverse alphabetical listings of over 400 names of German kingdoms, duchies, principalities, counties, rivers, mountain ranges, and other geopolitical and topographical entities."--The publisher.

Download or read book Nineteenth Century Emigration of Old Lutherans from Eastern Germany Mainly Pomerania and Lower Silesia to Australia Canada and the United States written by Clifford Neal Smith and published by Genealogical Publishing Com. This book was released on 2009-06 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Mr. Smith has noted in the Introduction to this work, "There is little so rare in German-American genealogy as a complete emigrant passenger list from Bremen." As most researchers know, the Bremen lists were destroyed during the fire storm of that city during World War II. In the case of this work, however, Mr. Smith was able to recover fourteen Bremen lists because they had been reprinted in the obscure weekly newspaper from Rudolstadt, Thuringia, entitled the "Allgemeine Auswanderungs-Zeitung" (which can be found in the rare-book collection at Yale University). The compiler has transcribed the names of all persons bound for America from each of the fourteen lists. The emigrants, who are arranged alphabetically, are identified by place of origin and sometimes by the number of persons in the passenger's family or the names of traveling companions.

The book will include a historical section, putting the place name into context, and references those events, which have had an impact on the geography of a country, and those foreign influences, which have played a part in shaping the place name. This volume is confined to the 38 countries of Europe, together with Andorra, Gibraltar, Liechtenstein, Malta, Monaco, San Marino, Cyprus and the Vatican City. All place names of cities and towns of particular importance and interest are included. Detailed maps accompany the text to illustrate change and evolution.
