Book Polyurethane Foam Sorbents in Separation Science

Download or read book Polyurethane Foam Sorbents in Separation Science written by Braun and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to present in a monographic and systematised form a review of all the literature devoted to polyurethane-based polymeric sorbents in separation chemistry. The primary types of sorbents dealt with are polyurethane foams and open-pore polyurethanes. The structure of the monograph follows this dichotomy. A book of this nature should stimulate thinking and incite its reader to consult the original literature. It will, however, not make such a consultation superfluous. A fair amount of the results described in this monograph constitute the main activity of investigation which took place in the authors laboratories during the past decade.

Download or read book Fire Toxicity written by A A Stec and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2010-03-12 with total page 721 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Toxic fire effluents are responsible for the majority of fire deaths, and an increasing large majority of fire injuries, driven by the widespread and increasing use of synthetic polymers. Fire safety has focused on preventing ignition and reducing flame spread through reducing the rate of heat release, while neglecting the important issue of fire toxicity. This is the first reference work on fire toxicity and the only scientific publication on the subject in the last 15 years. Assessment of toxic effects of fires is increasingly being recognised as a key factor in the assessment of fire hazards. This book raises important issues including the types of toxic effluents that different fires produce, their physiological effects, methods for generation and assessment of fire toxicity, current and proposed regulations and approaches to modelling the toxic impact of fires. The contributors to Fire toxicity represent an international team of the leading experts in each aspect of this challenging and important field. This book provides an important reference work for professionals in the fire community, including fire fighters, fire investigators, regulators, fire safety engineers, and formulators of fire-safe materials. It will also prove invaluable to researchers in academia and industry. Investigates the controversial subject of toxic effluents as the cause of the majority of fire deaths and injuries Describes the different types of toxic effluents and the specific fires that they produce, their physiological effects and methods for generation Provides an overview of national and international fire safety regulations including current and proposed regulations such as a standardized framework for prediction of fire gas toxicity

Book PUR Facts

    Book Details:
  • Author : Thea van Oosten
  • Publisher : Amsterdam University Press
  • Release : 2015-12-15
  • ISBN : 9048512077
  • Pages : 130 pages

Download or read book PUR Facts written by Thea van Oosten and published by Amsterdam University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-15 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flexible Polyurethane (PUR) foams, in use since the 1950s and familiar from furniture upholstery and other domestic textiles, can be found in museum collections in numerous art and design objects. However, these exhibits pose severe conservation problems due to the ageing of the foam caused by photo-oxidation, leading to discoloration, loss of strength and fl exibility, and fi nally the crumbling of the object. This defi nitive work outlines the most up-to-date methods of restoring fl exibility of older foams and protecting new foams from degradation by coating them with stabilising systems acting effectively as a `sunblock. The author, an experienced conservator, describes the research involved in developing the new methods and their impact on the visual, textural and chemical properties of treated PUR foams. One of the chapters details the preparation and application of the light stabilizing system to PUR foams.

Download or read book Spray Polyurethane Foam in External Envelopes of Buildings written by Mark T. Bomberg and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-10-07 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spray Polyurethane Foams in External Envelopes of Buildings presents, for the first time, a book focused on both the theoretical and practical design and applications of spray polyurethane foam (SPF) use. To review the moisture performance of SPF, this book focuses on the design of an assembly where moisture is kept from accumulating and causing deterioration (flow through approach). In this approach, Spray Polyurethane Foam presents two unique parts of theory and practice of various SPF products. FROM THE PREFACE Part 1 of this monograph analyzes SPF performance as the material (product). Being field fabricated, installation of SPF products must include a quality assurance program . . . Laboratory evaluation of foams and their coverings, quality management issues, and quantification of the technical support provided to the SPF contractor are also reviewed. Part 2 presents a systems approach to construction. Starting with principles of environmental control of buildings, different aspects of design and performance of roofing and wall systems are reviewed. Details and design recommendations . . . as well as case studies . . . are included.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polyurethanes are very versatile and exciting materials of the plastics family. Although there are many types, the flexible and viscoelastic foams have opened up vast possibilities as viable business ventures and expanding applications, and have established themselves as an essential part of daily life, replacing traditional materials over the years. This book imparts a sound knowledge of flexible and viscoelastic polyurethane foams from their chemistry to calculations and formulating methodology for quality production. The author presents very valuable detailed information on foam manufacturing based on more than 40 years hands-on experience in the local and international situations. The detailed presentation of two manufacturing setups will greatly benefit entrepreneurs, medium-volume producers and large-volume manufacturers. For entrepreneurs, the innovative low-cost startup, high-profit, tried and tested methods will be very encouraging. The medium-to-large-volume producers will find the information provided interesting and practical to solve the inherent problems of excess wastage, better process control and plant efficiency, thereby enhancing profitability. Due to global environmental concerns, as polyurethane chemical components move from petroleum sources to bio-based renewable resources, developers are facing interesting challenges. For continued profitable production, challenges facing the foam machinery manufacturers will be to offer cost-effective, highly efficient and compatible machinery to producers. This book provides practical guidance in all aspects of the manufacture of flexible polyurethane foams, and is an ideal information source for students, teachers, producers and entrepreneurs.
