Book Polynomial Identities and Asymptotic Methods

Download or read book Polynomial Identities and Asymptotic Methods written by A. Giambruno and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a state of the art approach to the study of polynomial identities satisfied by a given algebra by combining methods of ring theory, combinatorics, and representation theory of groups with analysis. The idea of applying analytical methods to the theory of polynomial identities appeared in the early 1970s and this approach has become one of the most powerful tools of the theory. A PI-algebra is any algebra satisfying at least one nontrivial polynomial identity. This includes the polynomial rings in one or several variables, the Grassmann algebra, finite-dimensional algebras, and many other algebras occurring naturally in mathematics. The core of the book is the proof that the sequence of co-dimensions of any PI-algebra has integral exponential growth - the PI-exponent of the algebra. Later chapters further apply these results to subjects such as a characterization of varieties of algebras having polynomial growth and a classification of varieties that are minimal for a given exponent.

Book Identities of Algebras and their Representations

Download or read book Identities of Algebras and their Representations written by I︠U︡riĭ Pitrimovich Razmyslov and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1994 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past forty years, a new trend in the theory of associative algebras, Lie algebras, and their representations has formed under the influence of mathematical logic and universal algebra, namely, the theory of varieties and identities of associative algebras, Lie algebras, and their representations. The last twenty years have seen the creation of the method of 2-words and *a-functions, which allowed a number of problems in the theory of groups, rings, Lie algebras, and their representations to be solved in a unified way. The possibilities of this method are far from exhausted. This book sums up the applications of the method of 2-words and *a-functions in the theory of varieties and gives a systematic exposition of contemporary achievements in the theory of identities of algebras and their representations closely related to this method. The aim is to make these topics accessible to a wider group of mathematicians.

Book Certificates of Positivity for Real Polynomials

Download or read book Certificates of Positivity for Real Polynomials written by Victoria Powers and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-26 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects and explains the many theorems concerning the existence of certificates of positivity for polynomials that are positive globally or on semialgebraic sets. A certificate of positivity for a real polynomial is an algebraic identity that gives an immediate proof of a positivity condition for the polynomial. Certificates of positivity have their roots in fundamental work of David Hilbert from the late 19th century on positive polynomials and sums of squares. Because of the numerous applications of certificates of positivity in mathematics, applied mathematics, engineering, and other fields, it is desirable to have methods for finding, describing, and characterizing them. For many of the topics covered in this book, appropriate algorithms, computational methods, and applications are discussed. This volume contains a comprehensive, accessible, up-to-date treatment of certificates of positivity, written by an expert in the field. It provides an overview of both the theory and computational aspects of the subject, and includes many of the recent and exciting developments in the area. Background information is given so that beginning graduate students and researchers who are not specialists can learn about this fascinating subject. Furthermore, researchers who work on certificates of positivity or use them in applications will find this a useful reference for their work.

Book Ideals of Identities of Associative Algebras

Download or read book Ideals of Identities of Associative Algebras written by Aleksandr Robertovich Kemer and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book concerns the study of the structure of identities of PI-algebras over a field of characteristic zero. In the first chapter, the author brings out the connection between varieties of algebras and finitely-generated superalgebras. The second chapter examines graded identities of finitely-generated PI-superalgebras. One of the results proved concerns the decomposition of T-ideals, which is very useful for the study of specific varieties. In the fifth section of Chapter Two, the author solves Specht's problem, which asks whether every associative algebra over a field of characteristic zero has a finite basis of identities. The book closes with an application of methods and results established earlier: the author finds asymptotic bases of identities of algebras with unity satisfying all of the identities of the full algebra of matrices of order two.

Book Polynomial Identity Rings

Download or read book Polynomial Identity Rings written by Vesselin Drensky and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-05-25 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These lecture notes treat polynomial identity rings from both the combinatorial and structural points of view. The greater part of recent research in polynomial identity rings is about combinatorial questions, and the combinatorial part of the lecture notes gives an up-to-date account of recent research. On the other hand, the main structural results have been known for some time, and the emphasis there is on a presentation accessible to newcomers to the subject.

Book Algebras and Representation Theory

Download or read book Algebras and Representation Theory written by Karin Erdmann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-07 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This carefully written textbook provides an accessible introduction to the representation theory of algebras, including representations of quivers. The book starts with basic topics on algebras and modules, covering fundamental results such as the Jordan-Hölder theorem on composition series, the Artin-Wedderburn theorem on the structure of semisimple algebras and the Krull-Schmidt theorem on indecomposable modules. The authors then go on to study representations of quivers in detail, leading to a complete proof of Gabriel's celebrated theorem characterizing the representation type of quivers in terms of Dynkin diagrams. Requiring only introductory courses on linear algebra and groups, rings and fields, this textbook is aimed at undergraduate students. With numerous examples illustrating abstract concepts, and including more than 200 exercises (with solutions to about a third of them), the book provides an example-driven introduction suitable for self-study and use alongside lecture courses.

Book Introduction to Representation Theory

Download or read book Introduction to Representation Theory written by Pavel I. Etingof and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Very roughly speaking, representation theory studies symmetry in linear spaces. It is a beautiful mathematical subject which has many applications, ranging from number theory and combinatorics to geometry, probability theory, quantum mechanics, and quantum field theory. The goal of this book is to give a ``holistic'' introduction to representation theory, presenting it as a unified subject which studies representations of associative algebras and treating the representation theories of groups, Lie algebras, and quivers as special cases. Using this approach, the book covers a number of standard topics in the representation theories of these structures. Theoretical material in the book is supplemented by many problems and exercises which touch upon a lot of additional topics; the more difficult exercises are provided with hints. The book is designed as a textbook for advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students. It should be accessible to students with a strong background in linear algebra and a basic knowledge of abstract algebra.

Book Free Algebras and PI algebras

Download or read book Free Algebras and PI algebras written by Vesselin S. Drensky and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to the combinatorial theory of polynomial algebras, free associative and free Lie algebras, and algebras with polynomial identities. It also examines the structure of automorphism groups of free and relatively free algebras. It is based on graduate courses and short cycles of lectures presented by the author at several universities and its goal is to involve the reader as soon as possible in the research area, to make him or her able to read books and papers on the considered topics. It contains both classical and contemporary results and methods. A specific feature of the book is that it includes as its inseparable part more than 250 exercises and examples with detailed hints (50 % of the numbered statements), some of them treating serious mathematical results. The exposition is accessible for graduate and advanced undergraduate students with standard background on linear algebra and some elements of ring theory and group theory. The professional mathematician working in the field of algebra and other related topics also will find the book useful for his or her research and teaching. TOC:Introduction 1.
