Book Handbook of Polymer Modified Concrete and Mortars

Download or read book Handbook of Polymer Modified Concrete and Mortars written by Yoshihiko Ohama and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 1995-12-31 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mortar and concrete made with portland cement has been a popular construction material in the world for the past 170 years or more. However, cement mortar and concrete have some disadvantages such as delayed hardening, low tensile strength, large drying shrinkage and low chemical resistance. To reduce these disadvantages, polymers have been utilized as an additive. Polymer-modified or polymer cement mortar (PCM) and concrete (PCC) are the materials which are made by partially replacing the cement hydrate binders of conventional cement mortar or concrete, with polymers. This book deals with the principles of polymer modification for cement composites, the process technology, properties and applications of the polymer-modified mortar and concrete, and special polymer-modified systems such as M DF cement, antiwashout underwater concrete, polymer-ferrocement, and artificial I wood. The polymeric admixtures or cement modifiers include latexes or emulsions, redispersible polymer powders, water-soluble polymers, liquid resins and monomers. This book describes the current knowledge and information of polymer-modified mortars and concretes, and discusses or reviews the following items in detail: 1. Principles of polymer modification for cement composites. 2. Process technology of polymer-modified mortars and concretes. 3. Properties of polymer-modified mortars and concretes. 4. Applications of polymer-modified mortars and concretes. 5. Special polymer-modified systems such as MDF cements, antiwashout underwater concretes, polymer-ferrocements, and artificial woods.

Book Polymer Modified Concrete and Mortar

Download or read book Polymer Modified Concrete and Mortar written by M. O'Brien and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This chapter on Polymer Modified Concrete and Mortar is a new contribution to ASTM STP 169. In January 1987, a Task Group was first formed in Subcommittee C09.03.18 (C09.25) due to the need identified for standards development in the area of Polymer Modified Cementitious materials. This Task Group started the process, and then in June of 1989 this activity was organized under a new subcommittee, C09.03.19 (C09.44) where the work continues. Membership in this subcommittee has grown to 47. This group is working on developing specifications and test methods pertaining to the use of latexes and redispersible dry polymers as modifiers for hydraulic cement concrete and mortars. These polymer modifiers mainly contribute to adhesion, water resistance, reduced permeability, and increased durability. Polymer modifiers are used in a variety of applications, such as, patching compounds, stucco, ceramic tile thin sets and grouts, and bridge deck overlays. The first ASTM sponsored Symposium on Polymer Modified Concrete and Mortar was held in Louisville in June of 1992. A second symposium is in the planning stages for 1995.

Committee C09.44 issued Latex and Powder Polymer Modifiers for Hydraulic Cement Concrete and Mortar (C 1438) and Test Methods for Polymer Modified Mortar and Concrete (C 1439) in 1999. These polymer modifiers mainly contribute to adhesion, water resistance, reduced permeability, and increased durability. Polymer modifiers are used in a variety of applications, such as patching compounds, stucco, ceramic tile thin sets and grouts, and bridge deck overlays. The first ASTM sponsored Symposium on Polymer Modified Concrete and Mortar was held in Louisville in June of 1992 with the papers being published in STP 1176 [1]. The current edition reviewed and updated the topics of the previous authors introduced new technology that has been developed and included up to date references.

Book Polymer modified Concrete for Military Construction

Download or read book Polymer modified Concrete for Military Construction written by John R. Keeton and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Results are given of tests made with polymer-modified concretes in which the polymeric materials are added to the concrete in the mixer. Polymers used were either epoxy or saran latex. Epoxy- or latex-modified concretes provided compressive, splitting tensile, and flexural strengths from 2.8 to 4.6 times those of similar concrete without the polymer. Epoxy-modified concretes achieved compressive strengths from 7,770 psi to 10,150 psi over test ages of 1 day to 365 days. Latex-modified concretes reached compressive strengths from 4,160 psi to 10,110 psi over test ages from 3 days to 365 days. Splitting tensile strengths of epoxy-modified concretes ranged from 900 psi to 1,340 psi for test ages from 1 day to 365 days; corresponding strengths of latex-modified of latex-modified concretes ranged from 600 psi to 970 psi. Flexural strengths of epoxy-modified concretes ranged from 1,300 psi to 1,610 psi; corresponding strengths of latex-modified concretes ranged from 770 psi to 1,570; Significant reductions were observed in water absorption of polymer-modified concretes. Bond strength of polymer-modified concrete was slightly higher than in concrete without the polymer. Young's moduli of polymer-modified concretes were only 1.4 to 1.8 times those of similar concrete without the polymer. Epoxy-modified concretes cost between $432 and $465 per cubic yard more than conventional portland cement concrete; corresponding cost of latex-modified concrete is about $278. Typical mix designs and mixing, placing, and curing procedures are presented"--Pages iii - iv

Book Comparison of Liquid Dispersions with Spray Dried Acrylic Polymers as Modifiers of a Cement Based Patching Material

Download or read book Comparison of Liquid Dispersions with Spray Dried Acrylic Polymers as Modifiers of a Cement Based Patching Material written by RP. Bright and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was carried out to compare the performance of dry polymers to the more conventional liquid-based polymers in a general purpose patching mortar. A series of polymer-modified mortars were thus evaluated, comparing two spray-dried redispersible acrylic powders with two water-based polymers: an acrylic dispersion and a styrene-butadiene rubber dispersion.
