Book Politics and Its Application Classic Reprint

Download or read book Politics and Its Application Classic Reprint written by Loyd Knight Kistler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Politics and Its Application In introducing the following pages let me say the design is to separate things political from things theoretical and Visionary; to show that laws as they exist are largely the result of our wishes or sentiments as we express them from time to time at the ballot box. Another object in view is to define and explain some of our high-sounding words and phrases as they are put forth by those designed to guide our political thought or execute our laws as we have them. There are many who complain of practical results of desired legislation enacted by tacit agreement of the voter him self. Some good people complain about the liquor traffic, some about the tariff, some about the money power, and perhaps with out a remote idea of the origin or authority of any or all for their existence. In a republic laws and conditions exist by the consent of the people. Also every ballot of each political party stands for the same thing. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Pure Theory of Politics This exposition begins in part III and is pursued systematically to the end. If I have been at all successful in my attempt, it should present the same significance to the erudite as to the beginner. Why does the exposition begin only in part 111? As I am dealing with the action of Man upon Man, it seemed necessary to stress that this occurs in a social setting, whose importance and influence is sketched out in part II. Book Politics Classic Reprint

Download or read book Politics Classic Reprint written by Charles Austin Beard and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Politics Every science begins by laying hold of some definite and tangible facts, and advances by tracing their myriad relations until they are lost in the great complex of things. So politics starts with the government which, in final analysis, is a determinate number of persons in a political community charged with certain public duties, and it advances to a consideration of the phenomena which condition the organization and operations of the government. It is evident at a casual glance that official performances are not really separable from other actions of the governmental agents themselves or from many of the actions of citizens at large. For instance, the declaration of war against Spain was a political act, but clearly it was only an incident in the sum total of events which led up to the armed conflict. For months before the official proceeding, social forces had been gathering strength, and impinging on the minds of persons charged with transmuting the feeling and will of the nation into the legal state of war. It was by a mere formal process that social realities passed over into political facts. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Study of Politics

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Study of Politics: The Present State of American Political Science This essay is addressed to graduate students. My aim is to tell young men and young women some things it may be good to know about the profession they intend to enter. If old timers think they learn something also, they are welcome to whatever they pick up. If many older members of the profession read this, some of them will find confirmation of their own positions. They may even encounter some of their own ideas stated in their own words. For I have freely utilized what I have heard said over a period of at least three decades. I hope, of course, that I have myself added something to the discussion-if I have, it is not likely to sound new to men of my own age. I have not won any prizes for keeping my thoughts to myself over the years. But the young people, I have hope, will encounter a thing or two here they have not already pondered. Book The Democracy Sourcebook

Download or read book The Democracy Sourcebook written by Robert A. Dahl and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2003-08-15 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Democracy Sourcebook offers a collection of classic writings and contemporary scholarship on democracy, creating a book that can be used by undergraduate and graduate students in a wide variety of courses, including American politics, international relations, comparative politics, and political philosophy. The editors have chosen substantial excerpts from the essential theorists of the past, including Jean-Jacques Rousseau, John Stuart Mill, Alexis de Tocqueville, and the authors of The Federalist Papers; they place them side by side with the work of such influential modern scholars as Joseph Schumpeter, Adam Przeworski, Seymour Martin Lipset, Samuel P. Huntington, Ronald Dworkin, and Amartya Sen. The book is divided into nine self-contained chapters: "Defining Democracy," which discusses procedural, deliberative, and substantive democracy; "Sources of Democracy," on why democracy exists in some countries and not in others; "Democracy, Culture, and Society," about cultural and sociological preconditions for democracy; "Democracy and Constitutionalism," which focuses on the importance of independent courts and a bill of rights; "Presidentialism versus Parliamentarianism"; "Representation," discussing which is the fairest system of democratic accountability; "Interest Groups"; "Democracy's Effects," an examination of the effect of democracy on economic growth and social inequality; and finally, "Democracy and the Global Order" discusses the effects of democracy on international relations, including the propensity for war and the erosion of national sovereignty by transnational forces.

Download or read book The Science of Politics Vol 45 Classic Reprint written by Sheldon Amos and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-14 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Science of Politics, Vol. 45 That there is an ideal polity for each State, if not one for all States, I steadfastly believe. But it is only to be discovered in the paths of history and observa tion. In passing from the 'science of Law' to that Of Politics, some change of method is inevitable, owing to the superior complexity and larger range of the subject matter. But the exercise, once become familiar in the narrower field, of applying a severe terminology and logical process to ethical notions will be found of the highest service in the wider field. A two years' journey round the world, in the course of which I visited the chief centres of political life ancient and modern, in Europe, America, Australasia, Polynesia, and North Africa, has not only helped me with illustrations, but has been of. No small use in stimulating thought. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Elements of Politics Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Elements of Politics Classic Reprint written by Henry Sidgwick and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-17 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elements of Politics Some years ago I was strongly impressed with the need of a book which Would expound, within a convenient compass, and in as systematic a form as the subject-matter might admit, the chief general considerations that enter into the rational discussion of political questions in modern states. Though there were many valuable treatises dealing with particular portions of this subject, no English writer - so far as I knew - had, since Bentham, attempted to treat it as a whole: and though such a comprehensive treatment must necessarily be brief, it appeared to me that even this brevity would have some advantages. For such a general treatment as I had in view, however full, must be for practical pur poses incomplete; and an exposition severely confined by limits of space would at any rate have the merit of keeping this inevitable incompleteness steadily before the minds\of both writer and readers. The present work is the result of an attempt to satisfy the need that I have just described. The plan upon which it has been composed I have en deavoured to explain in the first chapter: it only remains for me here to record the chief debts that I am conscious of owing to previous writers from whom I have derived ideas, and to express my gratitude to the friends who have aided me with criticisms and suggestions.
