This work, drawing on a variety of historical sources, traces the history of the Natzrim (the followers of the Nazarene) from "Pentecost" to Constantine. It explains the historical reasons for the abandonment of Judaism and the theological justifications developed to support it. In addition, it explains the role of Jew and Gentile in the early community and what they could or should be. The consequences of these changes were, and are, catastrophic for both Jew and Gentile. By understanding them, we can rebuild what Yahushua intended for his people.

Whether they curse us in the darkness or admire us for lifting the light of liberty once again is up to us.

The place of Blanchot in Lacoue-Labarthe’s thought was both discreet and profound, involving difficult, agonizing questions about the status of literature, with vast political and ethical stakes. Together with Plato, Holderlin, Nietzsche, Benjamin, and Heidegger, Blanchot represents a decisive crossroads for Lacoue-Labarthe’s central concerns. Centering the relationship between embodiment and literary narrative, Christina Garcia Lopez shows narrative as healing work through which writers and readers ritually call back the soul—one’s unique immaterial essence—into union with the body, counteracting the wounding fragmentation that emerged out of colonization and imperialism. These readings feature both underanalyzed and more popular works by pivotal writers such as Gloria Anzaldúa, Sandra Cisneros, and Rudolfo Anaya, in addition to works by less commonly acknowledged authors. Calling the Soul Back explores the spiritual and ancestral knowledge offered in narratives of bodies in trauma, bodies engaged in ritual, grieving bodies, bodies immersed in and becoming part of nature, and dreaming bodies.
