Download or read book Medication without harm policy brief written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2024-03-07 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Patient harm due to unsafe care is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide and most of this harm is avoidable. Harm due to medicines and therapeutic options accounts for nearly 50% of preventable harm in medical care. The main objective of this policy brief is to support successful implementation of the third WHO Global Patient Safety Challenge: Medication Without Harm, and to advocate for prioritizing medication safety in health care. It will also support implementation of the Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021-2030, on policies relating to eliminating avoidable harm in health care and ensuring the safety of clinical processes. Solutions that can be implemented in countries are proposed under four domains: the patient and the public; health and care workers; medicines as products; and systems and practices of medication within the three action areas: high-risk situations, polypharmacy and transitions of care. This document is a resource for policy-makers, health workers, health care leaders, academic institutions and other relevant institutions, to understand the global burden of medication errors, address and prevent medication-related harm at all levels of health care, aligned with the strategic plan of the third WHO Global Patient Safety Challenge: Medication Without Harm.

Book Policy brief access to assistive technology

Download or read book Policy brief access to assistive technology written by and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2020-05-31 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for assistive technology is rising rapidly with global ageing and increasing prevalence of noncommunicable diseases. Yet, assistive technology is often disregarded on global health and development agendas, resulting in limited and fragmented investment in the sector. This policy brief highlights key challenges in ensuring equitable access to assistive technology. It provides concrete actions to improve access across five key areas - people-centred: policy, products, personnel, and provision (5P). The brief is targeted at policy-makers involved in designing assistive technology policies and programmes, especially those involved in designing universal health coverage programmes. It is also relevant for all stakeholders working in these areas. The brief aims to raise awareness of the individual and societal benefits of improving access to assistive technology within universal health coverage. It describes how access to assistive technology is life-changing for people in need, and how improving access benefits everyone. Including assistive technology within universal health coverage and strengthening provision through primary health care will help to foster healthier populations and future generations that can participate and contribute more fully in education, labour markets and civil society.

Book Policy Brief Nordic ecosystem services

Download or read book Policy Brief Nordic ecosystem services written by Kristin Magnussen and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2019-01-10 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nature provides us with a multitude of goods like food and fiber, drinking water, protection against floods and storms, carbon storage and recreational services like swimming and bird watching. Our welfare and well-being depend on these goods and services – often called ecosystem services, defined as “the benefit people directly and indirectly obtain from nature”. We often distinguish between four categories of ecosystem services; supporting, provisioning, regulating and cultural ecosystem services. This report aims to sum up and show some examples of the results of the ecosystem services projects carried out for NCM. It illustrates which ecosystem services we receive from Nordic nature and the importance of these. It also shows examples of how the ecosystem services approach has been and can be used in management of nature in the Nordic countries, and to point out some knowledge gaps.
