Book Polarized Target Experiment at Fermilab Polarization 100 GeV

Download or read book Polarized Target Experiment at Fermilab Polarization 100 GeV written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preliminary results are given for polarization measurements for .pi.p and .pi.−p elastic scattering at 100 GeV. Results are not yet given for pp scattering also studied. It is noted that strictly speaking it is the asymmetry in the scattering off polarized protons that is measured. One relies on time-reversal invariance when this asymmetry is termed polarization. The values of the polarization are everywhere very small at this energy. These results appear to show no significant deviations from the predictions based on Regge theory and polarization measurements at lower beam energies. 2 references. (JFP).

Download or read book Improved Techniques for the Analysis of Experiments with Polarized Targets 1 to 2 GeV written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experiment was performed at the Bevatron to measure the polarization in the reaction .pi.−p .-->. .pi.°n from a polarized target, at beam momenta between 1 and 2 GeV/c. Concentration is placed on the original aspects of our analysis, in particular: the geometrical reconstruction of the elastic events; the use of the high analyzing power of the reaction studied to probe the polarization of the target in magnitude and distribution; a study of the statistical estimation of the polarization parameter; a detailed study of the quasielastic background. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the polarization (spin) physics of high energy particles and contains three parts. The first part presents the theoretical prefaces of polarization in the particle physics for interpretations, predictions and bases for understanding the following two parts. The second part of the book presents the description of the essential polarization experiments including the recent ones. This part is devoted to the innovative instrumentations, gives the parameters of the polarized beams, targets, polarized gas jets and polarimeters. The third part of the book concentrates on the important achievements in polarization physics. The book can be used in lectures on nuclear and particle physics and and nuclear instruments and methods. As supplementary reading this book is useful for researchers working in particle and nuclear physics.

Book Calibration of the Fermilab E 704 Polarized Target

Download or read book Calibration of the Fermilab E 704 Polarized Target written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report lists the final, best estimate of the target polarization P[sub T] as a function of time for all of the periods during which scattering data were (or may have been) collected. The information under RUN'' refers to [Delta][sigma][sub L]-runs. The notation sfs'' stands for start of frozen spin, '' efs'' for end of frozen spin, '' [yields] la'' for go to large-aperture'' target magnet position, and nla'' for not large-aperture'' position, i.e., the target magnet is in polarizing'' position. Where the NOTE'' column is blank it means that all standard frozen-spin conditions were in effect: the target temperature was reduced and the magnet was in large-aperture position. The timing marks were developed on the basis of three criteria: (1) the availability of direct NMR data, (2) the inclusion of major Target and Run boundaries, and (3) the arbitrary inclusion of enough minor'' Run boundaries to shorten large timing gaps. The sign of the P[sub T]-values is given in the NMR convention: (+) corresponds to predominant occupation of the Zeeman ground state (the thermal'' NMR-signals are considered positive). Since the target magnet field pointed upstream, (+) corresponds to target spin antiparallel to the beam momentum. The estimated uncertainty on P[sub T] is [plus minus]6.5% (2[sigma]), and the estimated uncertainty on the ratio of values for the two signs of polarization, P[sub T](+)/PT([minus]), is [plus minus]4.3% (2[sigma]).

Book excerpt: Using the Berkeley polarized-proton target, we have measured the polarization parameter P([theta]) for proton-proton (p-p) scattering. The measurements were obtained at beam kinetic energies of 0.330, 0.680, and 0.740 GeV at the 184-in. synchrocyclotron and 1.70, 2.85, 3.50, 4.00, 5.05, and 6.15 GeV at the Bevatron. The angular regions measured were from 20 to 100 degrees center of mass; the square of the four-momentum transfer ranged from 0.1 to 0.8 (GeV/c)2.

Book Orbis Scientiae Deeper Pathways in High Energy Physics

Download or read book Orbis Scientiae Deeper Pathways in High Energy Physics written by Stephan Mintz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings contain the papers presented during the 14th annual High Energy Physics meeting convened under the aegis of Orbis Scientiae 1977. The title "Deeper Pathways in High Energy Physics" was adopted to indicate either further penetration into the nature of the structure of the elementary particle or the deepening of the continuously trodden path that gets gradually deeper and deeper, evolving into a trench. In the latter instance, the visibility of the real nature of elementary particles may be getting dimmer and dimmer. It is hoped that some of the papers in these proceedings do, indeed, contain further revelations on the "deeper" nature of elementary particles. We must not be overly charmed with "charm" even if it may fit the data of the current generation of e+ and e experiments. It would be much less than prophetic to say that a complete and totally satisfactory theory com~ising the entire physical reality is yet to be discovered, and there is presumably no paper of that kind in these proceedings. Despite this short coming, the editors do not wish to hide their admiration for the caliber of the papers contributed by the participants of Orbis Scientiae 1977. Appreciation is extended to Mrs. Helga S. Billings, Mrs. Elva Brady, and Ms. Yvonne L. Leber for their skillful typing of the proceedings, which they have performed with great enthusiasm and dedication. Orbis Scientiae 1977 received some support from the Energy Research and Development Administration.
