This book was released on 2000-02-28 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the Workshop on Physics with an Electron-Polarized Ion Collider (EPIC-99), jointly sponsored by the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility and Nuclear Theory Center, and the Institute for Nuclear Theory, University of Washington. It was held in Bloomington, Indiana, April 8-11, 1999. The purpose was to discuss important new physics phenomena which could be investigated with a high-luminosity asymmetric collider consisting of a beam of polarized electrons (with energy roughly 5 GeV), and a beam of polarized protons or other light ions of approximately 40 GeV energy. The Workshop brought together experts in the field who highlighted the unique potential for such a facility, and compared the prospects and challenges for this collider with present and proposed facilities around the world. The proceedings of this Workshop summarize our currently available knowledge on the physics potential for a polarized asymmetric collider. It provides a unique collection of information on the opportunities which such a facility would provide.

Book Polarized RF Guns for Linear Colliders

Download or read book Polarized RF Guns for Linear Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ICFA Workshop on Polarized RF Guns for Linear Colliders was held at Fermilab during April 18-20, 2001. It was attended by 37 scientists from 14 institutions. A list of participants is appended. An RF photoemission gun that delivers polarized electrons at low emittance would be an attractive electron source for a linear collider. Moreover, recently it has been demonstrated that an RF gun in conjunction with nearby injection system optics can deliver a beam with a high ratio of transverse emittances; a simplification of a linear collider's damping system could result. However, at present RF electron gun technology has not developed sufficiently to assure that such a source is feasible. The purpose of the workshop was to review the status of polarized RF gun development with linear collider application in mind, and outline a possible program for the future. A table lists the requirements for the electron injector for proposed linear colliders. The specifications are given for the beam before and after the electron damping ring.

Book Physics with an Electron Polarized Light Ion Collider

Download or read book Physics with an Electron Polarized Light Ion Collider written by Richard G. Milner and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2001-10-05 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last several years, physicists interested in understanding the structure of matter at the fundamental partonic (quark and lepton) level have come to realize that an electron-ion collider can address many of the outstanding questions in hadronic physics. In Summer 2000, a new Long Range Planning Exercise was announced for nuclear physics in the United States, and the proponents of an electron-ion collider came together to make the scientific case for this machine. This workshop summarizes the physics case and machine design for a next generation facility to study the fundamental structure of hadrons. Topics include: Spin and flavor structure of the nucleon, semi-exclusive processes, heavy quarks/target fragmentation, e-A physics, and machine.

Book Physics And Experiments With Linear Colliders Lcws95 Proceedings Of The Workshop In 2 Volumes

Download or read book Physics And Experiments With Linear Colliders Lcws95 Proceedings Of The Workshop In 2 Volumes written by Yoshiaki Fujii and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-08-22 with total page 836 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collider experiments have become essential to studying elementary particles. In particular, lepton collisions such as e⁺e⁻ are ideal from both experimental and theoretical points of view, and are a unique means of probing the new energy region, sub-TeV to TeV. It is a common understanding that a next-generation e⁺e⁻ collider will have to be a linear machine that evades beam-energy losses due to synchrotron radiation. In this book, physics feasibilities at linear colliders are discussed in detail, taking into account the recent progress in high-energy physics.

Book Polarization Dynamics In Nuclear And Particle Physics Proceedings Of The 2nd Adriatico Research Conference

Download or read book Polarization Dynamics In Nuclear And Particle Physics Proceedings Of The 2nd Adriatico Research Conference written by Asim Orhan Barut and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-12-22 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the four years since the first Trieste Meeting on Spin and Polarization Dynamics in Nuclear and Particle Physics, considerable progress has been made both in the theoretical and experimental aspects of this field. The polarization phenomena have given rise to many more detailed and crucial tests which enhance our understanding of particle physics. New information can also be uncovered in the process of conducting the various tests. For this reason, considerable efforts have been put into the present and future accelerators to extend the experimental data to measure polarization asymmetries for both polarized targets and polarized scattered and produced particles. The 2nd Adriatico Research Conference held in January 1992 brought together both theorists and experimentalists who presented many new findings. These findings have been compiled into this compact volume to give a complete picture of the wide range of theoretical and experimental problems, difficulties, results, prospects and hopes which are at the core of particle physics studies today. It will be a useful guide for the present status of polarization phenomena and their fundamental implications.

This book was released on 2001 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International workshop on II Polarized Partons at High Q2 region 11 was held at the Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics, Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan on October 13-14, 2000, as a satellite of the international conference ''SPIN 2000'' (Osaka, Japan, October 16-21,2000). This workshop was supported by RIKEN (The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research) and by Yukawa Institute. The scientific program was focused on the upcoming polarized collider RHIC. The workshop was also an annual meeting of RHIC Spin Collaboration (RSC). The number of participants was 55, including 28 foreign visitors and 8 foreign-resident Japanese participants, reflecting the international nature of the RHIC spin program. At the workshop there were 25 oral presentations in four sessions, (1) RHIC Spin Commissioning, (2) Polarized Partons, Present and Future, (3) New Ideas on Polarization Phenomena, (4) Strategy for the Coming Spin Running. In (1) the successful polarized proton commissioning and the readiness of the accelerator for the physics program impressed us. In (2) and (3) active discussions were made on the new structure function to be firstly measured at RHIC, and several new theoretical ideas were presented. In session (4) we have established a plan for the beam time requirement toward the first collision of polarized protons. These proceedings include the transparencies presented at the workshop. The discussion on ''Strategy for the Coming Spin Running'' was summarized by the chairman of the session, S. Vigdor and G. Bunce.
