Book F Centers in Alkali Halides

Download or read book F Centers in Alkali Halides written by Mladen Georgiev and published by Springer. This book was released on 1988-04-13 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes offer a comprehensive discussion of the experimental and theoretical work done so far on the F' centers in alkali halides. Here the F' center is a two-electron single-anion-vacancy entity with no other anion vacancies in its immediate neighbourhood. This definition allows for the inclusion of pair interactions between color center species which occupy a central position in the book. Quantities that control or characterize F'-related physics, such as the F-F' conversion efficiency at low temperatures or high excitation levels, the F' thermal lifetime, the F' bandshape, are given a due space. A number of experimental situations related to F' centers are also discussed. Finally, a recently revived attempt to deal with the F-F'conversion in terms of the electron transfer via (bound) polarons, a work still in progress, is described. These notes are expected to stimulate further experimental and theoretical investigations on the F' centers.

Book Spectroscopy of Crystals Containing Rare Earth Ions

Download or read book Spectroscopy of Crystals Containing Rare Earth Ions written by A.A. Kaplyanskii and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 767 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ``Spectroscopy of Crystals Containing Rare Earth Ions'' contains chapters on some key problems selected from a broad range of spectroscopic studies of RE-activated solids including both crystalline and glassy materials. Progress in crystal field theory is surveyed, an area which is basic to our understanding of the energy levels. The treatment of dynamical properties includes studies of coherence phenomena in isolated ions, energy transfer between ions and co-operative phenomena associated with ion-ion and ion-lattice interactions. In addition, the role of electron spins and nuclear spins is studied by light scattering and double resonance techniques. The presence of inhomogeneous broadening of spectral lines is observed and studied in many contexts, leading to new insights into general problems of the disordered state. Considerable attention is devoted to describing new experimental techniques whose development is of prime importance for progress in the spectroscopy of RE-activated solids. Many of these rely on the development and application of tunable lasers. At the moment this is a very active field of spectroscopy with more exciting developments likely to occur in the future.

Book Luminescence of Crystals Molecules and Solutions

Download or read book Luminescence of Crystals Molecules and Solutions written by Ferd Williams and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These Proceedings report the scholarly work presented in Leningrad at the largest conference ever held on luminescence. In addition to the large number of delegates, the Conference was dis tinguished by strong and balanced representation on the program of papers from capitalist and socialist nations. The Conference was sponsored by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics and by the Academy of Science of the USSR. As noted in the Opening Ceremony, this Conference is in the series held approximately every three years since 1938. All branches of luminescence are included. It was recognized, during the early stages of organization of the Conference, that there would be difficulties associated with the preparation of an English version of the Proceedings. Until just before the Conference, it was not evident whether translations of the Russian papers would be available and whether facilities would exist at the Conference for a working publication committee to edit the manuscripts. It was not possible, therefore, to make contractual arrangements before the Conference for publication.

Book Defects and Their Structure in Nonmetallic Solids

Download or read book Defects and Their Structure in Nonmetallic Solids written by B. Henderson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Advanced Study Institute of which this volume is the proceedings was held at the University of Exeter during 24 August to 6 September 1975. There were seventy participants of whom eighteen were lecturers and members of the advisory committee. All NATO countries except Holland, Iceland and Portugal were re presented. In addition a small number of participants came from non-NATO countries Japan, Ireland and Switzerland. An aim of the organising committee was to bring together scientists of wide interests and expertise in the defect structure of insulators and semiconductors. Thus major emphases in the pro gramme concerned the use of spectroscopy and microscopy in revealing the structure of point defects and their aggregates, line defects as well as planar and volume defects. The lectures revealed that in general little is known of the fate of the interstitial in most irradiated solids. Nor are the dynamic properties of defects under stood in sufficient detail that one can state how point defects cluster and eventually become macroscopic defects. Although this book faithfully reproduces the material covered by the invited speakers, it does not really follow the flow of the lectures. This is because it seemed advisable for each lecturer to provide a single self-contained and authoritative manuscript, rather than a series of short articles corresponding to the lectures.

Book Optical Spectroscopy of Inorganic Solids

Download or read book Optical Spectroscopy of Inorganic Solids written by B. Henderson and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text describes the technique of optical spectroscopy applied to problems in condensed matter physics. It relates theoretical understanding to experimental measurement, including discussion of the optical spectroscopy of inorganic insulators, with many illustrative examples. Symmetry arguments are developed from a formal group theoretical basis and are frequently used, and a special effort is made to treat the subject of lattice vibrations and to show how these can affect the spectroscopic properties of solids. The elements of laser theory are developed, and the authors also explore the use of optically detected magnetic resonance techniques for the investigation of semiconducting materials.
