Book I Am Addict

  • Author : Dennis Wright
  • Publisher : AuthorHouse
  • Release : 2010-12-17
  • ISBN : 1452085552
  • Pages : 112 pages

Download or read book I Am Addict written by Dennis Wright and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-12-17 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In here is an offering. An offering designed to enlighten and inspire anyone who is on the less traveled road laid out by the 12 steps of recovery. I say less traveled because the numbers of true recoverees is relatively small in comparison to the numbers of people caught in addictions. This collection has been many, many years in the making. I hope that it may bring some light and maybe a little humor to a relatively dark subject. I have tried not to offend sensitive eyes and pallets but there is some language used in the cramped world of users that works when other language doesn't, and some of it is in this collection. I have refrained from vulgarity however and if you can tolerate some compromise I am sure you will be pleasantly rewarded. If you are new to recovery you may be surprised at some of the things here that you thought no one else had ever thought. It is important to remember that the common thread in addiction is the lie that you are the only one who has ever done the things you are doing. There is only so much dysfunction in the world, and when you have been on the road of recovery for a while it becomes amazingly redundant. Everybody is stunned to find out they are not alone in their weirdness. Stunned and then relieved to find out that there is a way out. The bottom line is that we give up a life of using for a life of service. When you find this and come to terms with serving people who usually don't care, and you serve them anyway, then and only then will you start receiving the rewards that await you.

Jones, during his teenage years in the early 1980s growing up in the American Southwest. Originally published by a small underground zine publisher, it was distributed for free at concerts, parties and community events along with a group of other young punk new wave writers. At times psychotic and others loathsome, "Addict: Poems of Drug Abuse" is a collection of poems relating the author's struggles with addiction, survival and self-worth. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is some of the poetry I have written over the past 30 or so years. It is not complex or brilliant. It is what it is, and that is a group of works from an alcoholic, and drug addict. Some were written sober, but a lot were not. Some are good (I think) and some are crap (I am sure). Either way you may find it amusing, or interesting, if not good. Some of these were written when I was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and some have been written since I have entered recovery. The oldest poem in this collection was written in 1987, when I was fourteen years old. This edition includes all the poetry from my previous book as well as some never before published ones. The illustrations in this book are done by my middle daughter Sara.

Book In the Months of My Son s Recovery

Download or read book In the Months of My Son s Recovery written by Kate Daniels and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2019-05-15 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The poems of In the Months of My Son’s Recovery inhabit the voice and point of view of the mother of a heroin addict who enters recovery. With clear perception and precise emotional tones, Kate Daniels explores recovery experiences from multiple, evolving vantage points, including active addiction, 12-step treatment, co-occurring mental illness and addiction (known as dual diagnosis), and relapse. These intimately voiced, harrowing poems reveal the collateral damage that addiction inflicts on friends and families, in addition to the primary damage sustained by addicts themselves. Offering bold descriptions of medical processes, maternal love, and the potential for hope as an antidote to despair, this timely collection offers a firsthand account of the many crises at the heart of the opioid epidemic.
