Book Dark Recesses of the Mind

Download or read book Dark Recesses of the Mind written by Isaac Kight and published by . This book was released on 2021-06-07 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am a survivor of terrible childhood trauma. The PTSD I have experienced my entire life has defined my existence. Depression, anxiety, panic these are constant problems. In middle age the illness overwhelmed me and forced me into treatment. I learned to use poetry to express my feelings and talk about topics not easy to discuss. I posted a few of my poems on social media where I quickly received the feedback of friends that these were "pretty good." I am not certain that this is true, but I have decided to publish a book of poetry nevertheless. On the brighter side, several people have conveyed to me that my poems have been helpful to them. When they feel alone and isolated, these poems help them to understand that others can feel the same. One section explores Japanese poetic forms. These tend to be more cryptic, but I do so enjoy applying these forms to English. It is no small struggle to express ideas in English using the Japanese syllabic form. This may be why the Haiku is so popular in the English-speaking world these days as it presents a challenge. It is my supreme hope that this work will contribute in some small way to the overall agenda of destigmatizing mental illness. I hope these poems will help everyone who hurts to seek healing, those who do not understand to seek understanding, and those who are unaware of the struggles of the mentally ill to become aware. Together, we will bring forth a kinder, more understanding, and more loving world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the deeply personal Decade of the Brain, Janine Joseph writes of a newly-naturalized American citizen who suffers from post-concussive memory loss after a major auto accident. The collection is an odyssey of what it means to recover—physically and mentally—in the aftermath of trauma and traumatic brain injury, charting when “before” crosses into “after.” Through connected poems, buckling and expansive syntax, ekphrasis, and conjoined poetic forms, Decade of the Brain remembers and misremembers hospital visits, violence and bodily injury, intimate memories, immigration status, family members, and the self. After the accident I turned out all of the lights in the room while I watched, concussed, from the mirror. I edged like a fever with nothing on the tip of my tongue.

Book Poems That Spark Discussion

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I wish my arm or leg were lost, then you will realize what war cost, as you cannot see my mind that was lost.” Poems That Spark Discussion is the story of one veteran’s quest to find his voice and manage post-traumatic stress disorder. A collection of poetry, it features thoughts about love, fear, suicide, drugs, anger and, most importantly, survival. For many, PTSD is considered a curse; for Wayne D. Federation, it was life saving. He spent decades thinking his anger, emotional numbness, fear, insomnia, aversion to noise and crowds, and other idiosyncrasies were normal. A diagnosis of PTSD in 2012 helped him understand that the behaviour was a result of his mind trying to make sense of what he’d witnessed and experienced. Wayne wrote this book to help himself cope with the realization that he was not okay. Once he began putting his thoughts on paper, it was like opening a channel to the world.
