Book Poetry Breathes Life into Bible Characters

Download or read book Poetry Breathes Life into Bible Characters written by Pat Morrell-Donnelly and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-05-14 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pats fifth book is a book of poems based on the lives of people in the Bible. She hopes these Bible poems will in some way bring to life information about each person, their faith, their strength, and for some, their failings. Just wherever the spirit has led her has been her way. She does not profess to be a Bible scholar. Her aim and hope is to use any talent she possesses to glorify God. She didnt start out with a plan about which person she would write about first. In the beginning, it was going to be about lives of women in the Bible, then it branched out to the men also. Many times she would hear a sermon or her sister or a friend would mention a Bible person, and she would then write a poem about that person. Or when writing about a particular person, she would then feel compelled to write about their spouse or someone connected to them. Her information was collected from the Bible and other sources. To make the verses all rhyme and still tell the story was another challenge. Her hope was to make it more interesting for a novice or for young people to understand. Many in this country have turned their backs on God. We have even been told, This is not a Christian nation. Believers in God have made this country great. Millions of lives have been sacrificed for our freedom. Sadly, as in the book of Jeremiah, we have become a divided country. Pat believes only if we turn back to God will our country remain great and free. May the pleasure of reading these poems about lives of people in the Bible bless each reader and bring to life the story of each Bible character.

Book excerpt: “All About Love” is Pat Morrell-Donnelly’s ninth book to publish. It contains two hundred twenty poems on different subjects. Each poem contains the word “love.” Many are motivational and inspirational type poems. Some tell about life and about life’s struggles and challenges that Pat has experienced. They tell about the love of God, Agape love, love of parents, love of nature, love of country, and different kinds of love. Most have a positive ending. Reading the poems will take one away a bit from the vicissitudes of life. Pat believes she has been given a gift from God that puts these poems in her mind. Perhaps some of the thoughts also come from being on this earth ninety four years. Many of the poems were written in the nineteen eighties and nineteen nineties and all through the years that followed. They portray some of the difficulties Pat experienced through out her life. The poems tell about different hardships, problems, losses and heartbreaks Pat suffered. Many times she is awakened in the night with thoughts going round in her head. She jots down or scribbles the thoughts on a pad next to her bed and deciphers the scribbling the following morning. She has also written many poems while under the hair dryer. The book also contains a short story “The Faded Photograph.” It is a great love story Pat wrote about a special couple she knew. The lady was originally from England. A second short story called “Unfinished” is about her mother who was killed by a drunk driver when her mother was forty five years of age. A beautiful life snuffed out prematurely. Pat worked all her life since age fourteen. She “made it” as the saying goes, and then “lost it all.” She was very successful at one point, but from wrong choices and decisions she lost all the material possessions she had attained over her lifetime. Pat realizes her poems are not everyone’s “cup of tea.” She appreciates that many have purchased her books and say they love her poems. They speak to just what that person needs at the time. Their spirit is lifted. She shares her life’s experiences through her poetry. If Pat’s poems can offer a bit of pleasure to any individual then the effort to put this book together and get it published will have been worth it all.

Book Poems and Stories About Cats and Dogs and Various Critters

Download or read book Poems and Stories About Cats and Dogs and Various Critters written by Pat Morrell-Donnelly and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-02-23 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the title states, this book contains stories and poems about cats and dogs. It relates the joy and pleasure they brought to their owners and the grief experienced when their pet passes away. Pat has written these poems and stories, over time, about the animals’ life and after some of the animals passed on. The aim and purpose of the book is to help young people, starting with preteens, deal with grief through the reading of these stories and poems. It tells about the lives of these special cats and dogs. This is a self-help book of sorts. It is Pat’s hope that it will help preteens, teenagers, young adults, and even adults who have lost pets to know that others have also lost pets, how difficult it was, and how they dealt with the loss of the pet. Sometimes it helps when one pet dies to immediately get another one. That is sometimes difficult, as you feel no other pet can replace the one you lost. It is a blessing that many people rescue pets from the pound and animal shelters. There are also organizations that rescue dogs from being euthanized. Dogs and cats have meant much to many in different ways. They can be a therapy to senior citizens and shut-ins. They lift us up when we are having a bad day. The pets were given a good home. They were given love. They were like family. They gave unconditional love in return. The book includes pictures of the cats and dogs that go along with the stories and poems. For those of you who have had animals you loved and lost, other animal lovers can feel your pain. Hopefully, these poems and stories will serve to let you know others grieve as you do. You are not alone.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Judaism is often described as the religion of the book par excellence - a religious movement built around the study of and commentary on the Hebrew Bible and steeped in a culture of bookishness that evolved from an unrelenting focus on a canonical text. Standard works of modern scholarship reinforce this view -- that the Jewish tradition has always embraced the Bible as a blueprint for the religious life. In this monograph, Rebecca Scharbach Wollenberg argues that this depiction of the tradition does not hold for much if its existence -- and more specifically, not for the first thousand years after the Bible was first canonized. Prior to the modern era, late antique and early medieval rabbinic authorities were deeply ambivalent about the Hebrew Bible (aka Old Testament, aka Torah). The Bible can be a really unsettling book because of its repeated depictions of impiety, taboo behavior of all sorts, and unapologetic expressions of doubt and skepticism. It's no accident, then, that Jews -- including their rabbis -- seldom opened a Bible during this long period. But how can you avoid Bible reading while being part of a community in which that same Bible is supposed to be a central pillar of communal identity? The rabbis met this challenge by instituting two workarounds. On the one hand, they incorporated ritualized readings of biblical passages into liturgical gatherings, so that the text was "read" (or chanted) in a rote, formulaic way -- a way that did not lend itself to deep musing about meaning. In such gatherings, the Torah scroll was treated as an entity that manifests sacred powers in its own right (hence the development of rituals governing the handling of the scrolls, including the practices of binding, unrolling, and rolling them). On the other hand, the rabbis constructed a vast edifice of interpretation of Scripture that came to be known in the tradition as the "Oral Torah", including rabbinic stories, commentary, and laws (and associated with terms such as midrash and Talmud). Both of these workarounds, argues Wollenberg, served to marginalize the written text of the Hebrew Bible as a source of cultural transmission and knowledge"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Psalms possess an enduring fascination for us. For frankness, directness, intensity and intimacy, they are unrivaled in all of Scripture. Somehow the psalmists seem to have anticipated all our awe, desires and frustrations. No wonder Christians have used the Psalms in worship from the earliest times to the present. Yet the Psalms cause us difficulties when we look at them closely. Their poetry is unfamiliar in form. Many images they use are foreign to us today. And the psalmists sometimes express thoughts that seem unworthy of Scripture. Tremper Longman gives us the kind of help we need to overcome the distance between the psalmists' world and ours. He explains the various kinds of psalms, the way they were used in Hebrew worship and their relationship to the rest of the Old Testament. Then he looks at how Christians can appropriate their message and insights today. Turning to the art of Old Testament poetry, he explains the use of parallelism and imagery. Step-by-step suggestions for interpretating the psalms on our own are followed by exercises for further study and reflection. Also included is a helpful guide to commentaries on the Psalms. Here is a book for all those who long to better understand these mirrors of the soul.
