Book excerpt: While sitting around one day, author Marvin Wells began to wonder what his purpose was and whether he was doing what God created him to do. What would his contribution be when it was time to leave this world? Wells prayed over these questions and then turned to the writing he had been doing since he was a teen. Keeping his work to himself at first, he wrote poems exploring a wide range of subjects and building from numerous inspirations, writing wherever he went. Some verses came to him in dreams, as if God was giving him the words to put down on paper. Soon Wells started sharing his poetry with others and saw the words reaching peoples hearts and minds. God had brought him to his purposethe gift of writing. In this collection of inspirational poetry, Wells seeks to touch the lives of others through words that tear down barriers and break through walls.

Book Poetic Parenting

Download or read book Poetic Parenting written by Farrah M. Walters and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2017-07-06 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parenting is the most difficult and important job one can undertake. While the process of being a parent cannot be described as easy, the formula for success can be quite simple: put in the work when children are little and reap the rewards as they become teens and young adults. Farrah Walters relies on fictional siblings, Emma and Ken, to impart words of wisdom as they reflect back on lessons from their younger days while facing tough decisions in their middle school years. Within valuable life lessons that involve their teachers, neighbors, friends, and some not-so-friendly classmates and peers, Emma and Ken learn about kindness, healthy habits, confidence, body boundaries, the importance of helping others, and the Golden Rule. Through the included anecdotes and poems, parents are guided to be proactive instead of reactive, to listen, and most of all, to unconditionally love their children, every day and no matter what. Poetic Parenting is a delightful book of stories and poems that engages children and guides parents on the rewarding, challenging, and always changing journey of raising wonderful kids.

Book Suddenness and the Composition of Poetic Thought

Download or read book Suddenness and the Composition of Poetic Thought written by Paul Magee and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2024-04-08 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interrogating the much-cherished concept of “poetic thinking,” this book focuses on what interview and draft materials reveal of how poets actually do think, when in the act of writing. The interviews confirm what findings from cognitive science and linguistics make clear: we rarely know exactly what words we are going to say, until we have said them. Suddenness and the Composition of Poetic Thought draws out the implications of a radically curtailed view of consciousness on how we understand the drafting and revision of lines of poetry, with implications for our theorisation of the composition of prose. Henrich von Kleist’s assertion that “it is not we, but a certain condition of ours which knows” emerges as central to this reassessment of the nature of the written word. Employing an extensive archive of interview materials with major Anglophone poets, discussing how they think in the moments of composition, this book also provides a lucid account of the links between poetic composition and live performative thinking in the contexts of Romantic compositional practice and the early (pre)textual history of ancient Greek epic. A transdisciplinary study at the crossroads of philosophy, cognitive psychology, literary studies, and linguistics, this book reconceptualizes the wellsprings of poetic thought and advances our understanding of thinking’s complex but vital link to improvised speech.
