Book Love for Imperfect Things

Download or read book Love for Imperfect Things written by Haemin Sunim and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2018-12-24 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Susan Cain, New York Times bestselling author of Quiet: "The world could surely use a little more love, a little more compassion, and a little more wisdom. In Love for Imperfect Things, Haemin Sunim shows us how to cultivate all three, and to find beauty in the most imperfect of things--including your very own self." A #1 internationally bestselling book of spiritual wisdom about learning to love ourselves, with all our imperfections, by the Buddhist author of The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down Hearing the words "be good to yourself first, then to others" was like being struck by lightning. Many of us respond to the pressures of life by turning inward and ignoring problems, sometimes resulting in anxiety or depression. Others react by working harder at the office, at school, or at home, hoping that this will make ourselves and the people we love happier. But what if being yourself is enough? Just as we are advised on airplanes to take our own oxygen first before helping others, we must first be at peace with ourselves before we can be at peace with the world around us. In this beautiful follow-up to his international bestseller The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down, Zen Buddhist monk Haemin Sunim turns his trademark wisdom to the art of self-care, arguing that only by accepting yourself--and the flaws that make you who you are--can you have compassionate and fulfilling relationships with your partner, your family, and your friends. With more than thirty-five full-color illustrations, Love for Imperfect Things will appeal to both your eyes and your heart, and help you learn to love yourself, your life, and everyone in it. When you care for yourself first, the world begins to find you worthy of care.

Book excerpt: The purpose of writing this book was a result of obedience to Christ. I know that I am to minister through my misery, I believe that I don't go through pain and troubles just to have scars. I am a firm believer that the pain brings praise and the troubles bring strength in order to help others. Humbly I seek direction from the Lord because ALL the Glory belongs to Him. He has given me the gift of encouraging others through poetic ministry and I'll continue to share my story and empower others while spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. I write because it frees me, I write because it gives me peace.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was published for lovers of poetry who like myself, enjoy poems without prefaces. As a spoken word artist, I've seen how many poets explain their pieces before sharing them at open mic nights. While at times this can give the listener an understanding of what the writer wants to express, it can also minimize the listener's imagination and lead them to focus on one particular perspective. I've chosen to highlight these poems individually in an attempt to give my readers another perspective of my life without any explanations. In doing so, I hope that each piece creates a visual tailor-made for each reader to enjoy. Without further ado, I present to you Pieces of Me.

Book excerpt: Climate change, the cost-of-living crisis; corporate greed, insomnia and mortality – yes, they all feature here, delicately interwoven with joyful poems celebrating love, family, food, basking lizards. And angels. The poems offer shared recognition; words that chime; satisfying rhymes; there’s the quantum poem, Dark Matter; What of Love and Motorbike tell of 21st Century love; Puddings is nothing but puddings, while The Comfort of Chocolate twins global warming with the pleasure of chocolate; Disclosure is a lighthearted take on The Ancient Mariner; there is the essential Cat poem, Cat and Mouse; an unwelcome sexual encounter is transmuted into dark humour in Pigeon Pecked. Poetry takes words, crumbles them and dunks them in the steaming hot tea (latte if you prefer) of the imagination. Enjoy!

Book excerpt: This timely book explores the wisdom of the Gnostic Jesus, who challenges our preconceptions about the world and ourselves. Based on the Gospel of Thomas, the book recounts the missing years in Jesus’ life and his time in Egypt and India, learning from Egyptian secret societies, then Buddhist schools, then Hindu Vedanta. Each of Jesus' original sayings is the "seed" for a chapter of the book; each examines one aspect of life — birth, death, love, fear, anger, and more — counterpointed by Osho’s penetrating comments and responses to questions from his audience.

Book Major Poems of the Hebrew Bible

Download or read book Major Poems of the Hebrew Bible written by Jan Fokkelman and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume II of Major Poems of the Hebrew Bible deals with 85 Psalms (83 poems) and the poems in Job 4-14, and aims at presenting an integrated prosodical theory which is able to bypass the highly controversial question of metrics. There are two approaches which initially are kept apart on grounds of method: structural analysis and the counting of the original, i.e. pre-Masoretic, syllables. Each poem receives a compact description of structure which gives a reasoned delimitation of cola, verses, and strophes. In a separate operation, the syllable counts for each word, colon, verse, strophe, stanza, section and poem are recorded in a comprehensive Appendix. All the poems under discussion show a precise integer as the average of syllables per colon. For half of them this is 8.00, the others have either 7.00 or 9.00. The 9.00 is a ceiling: there is no Psalm with a higher average. Combining the two approaches, the author shows that the poets themselves did count their syllables, and how they were able to mesh the syllable figures with the structural units of their compositions in a virtuoso combination. The greatest challenge of this enterprise is to delimit and objectify the correct colometry for all the songs, as the figure of syllables per colon depends on the right amount of cola. There are only about 30 Psalms which have a cola figure that can be considered beyond doubt. Fortunately, in the Book of Job the correct number of cola is certain for most chapters. Here we meet the number 8 again as a normative figure
