Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva’s powerful poetic voice and her tragic life have often prompted literary commentators to treat her as either a martyr or a monster. Born in Russia in 1892, she emigrated to Europe in 1922, returned to the Soviet Union at the height of the Stalinist Terror, and committed suicide in 1941. Alyssa Dinega focuses on the poetry, rediscovering Tsvetaeva as a serious thinker with a coherent artistic and philosophical vision.

Book Creativity and the Poetic Mind

Download or read book Creativity and the Poetic Mind written by Jean Tobin and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2004 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creativity and the Poetic Mind mingles the voices of well-known writers such as Nikki Giovanni, Donald Hall, John Koethe, Marge Piercy, and Robert Pinsky with newer voices, and includes engaging excerpts from interviews with thirty-eight American poets. Within a sustained argument about creative states of mind, this book innovatively presents and explores the technique of «going to the place» as more reliable in writing poetry than waiting for «inspiration». It explains why poets frequently believe that talking about their own poetry may damage their creativity and why, for centuries, inspiration has seemed to come from somewhere beyond the poet. In addition, it discusses the practicality of poets' thinking that «being creative» and «writing poetry» are two separate skills: inspiration is unreliable, but experienced poets create daily.

Book The English Poetic Mind

Download or read book The English Poetic Mind written by Charles Williams and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2020-08-06 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘The English Poetic Mind’ (1932) is Williams’ discussion of the source of the poetic impulse, creativity and drive behind three prominent English poets: Shakespeare, Milton and Wordsworth. The text is reflective of Williams’ imaginative and critical approach to literature and his appreciation of poetry and verse. Charles Williams (1886-1945) was a British theologian, playwright, novelist and poet. As a member of the ‘Inklings’ literary group at Oxford, his work supported a strong sense of narrative. For Williams, spiritual exchanges were an undercurrent to life, and his Christian fantasy writing, such as 'Descent into Hell' (1937), earned him many followers. This classic work is now being republished in a new modern edition with a specially commissioned introductory biography.

Book excerpt: Welcome to the thoughts of a poet Duane ‘The Poetic Mind’ Abbott. The poems that you will read I hope will embrace you and will give you an insight to my world, life and thoughts told through my pen. I am a lover of words and how they are moved around, strung together and made into pure beauty. Listening to music in my early years, I can remember as I still do today loving the words and not just the melodies that can make a beautiful song come alive. The first time I can recall writing what I grew to know as poetry was just a few lines in a Christmas card to my then girlfriend at the time. Ever since then I caught this poetry bug which I believe is a God given talent to just write my emotions on any topic that can hit me at any given moment in time. These poems are just some of those emotions over the years that have now graced the pages of my very first book, which I hope to be the start of many. The book that you will read is firstly dedicated to my son named Poetry whose picture graces the front cover. He has inspired me to bring to life thoughts and feelings penned before his birth and after to an audience, which I hope will firstly appreciate my words and connect with the many poems. The Poetic Mind is just that, full of love poems, everyday thoughts, reality and inspirational poems. I promise The Poetic Mind will have you captivated and even may bring that tear to your eye. Please open the first page and may you enjoy a journey into my thoughts!

Book The Resonance Code

  • Pages : 310 pages

Book excerpt: BLACK-AND-WHITE EDITION Human civilization is at a crossroads. Challenges of immense volatility and uncertainty press us to evolve our ourselves at a greater pace than we have ever done. We need to heal and revitalize the inner terrain of the psyche so our consciousness can respond creatively to the complexity that surrounds and challenges us. The Resonance Code is born of a marriage between ancient and modern, East and West. Its ancient and Eastern sources are Taoist Philosophy and the I Ching, one of Earth's most ancient complexity theories. Its modern and Western sources are contemporary theories of human development and practices of leadership coaching. According to the Taoist framework, the human psyche functions as an organic "resonator," directly exchanging and amplifying resonance - known as qi - with its social and natural environment. Qi carries information essential for our growth and thriving as individuals and as a species. However, on our modern, materialistic path of development, our cognitive minds struggle to process this subtle exchange between ourselves and our environment. This disconnection leads to much of the grief, loneliness, and pervasive distress we experience today. The Resonance Code presents a knowledge system developed through a leadership training curriculum at Resonance Path Institute. This system aims at awakening the psyche to resonance. It enables the rational mind to evolve beyond current limitations so we can dance with complexity and embrace uncertainty as the fertile ground of creativity. The Resonance Code is calling forth a new generation of resonance leaders. These are people who may or may not hold conventional leadership titles, but who love the Earth, feel compassion for all its inhabitants, and are committed to participate in humanity's evolutionary journey.

Download or read book Read Me Within My Poetic Mind written by Debi Locascio and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-07-18 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These are poems that tell a story. Sometimes our relationships are not quite going the way we want them to, but don't know how to express ourselves exactly. Sometimes we love the wrong people, but are so in love it's difficult to let go. What we want is for them to understand us and how we feel. We want to say something, wake someone up, or simply tell them you love them, but they are hurting you inside. Maybe you can't find the right words or maybe they just never seem to get it. Well, I understand, and although they may not understand the poems, hopefully it will bring you some comfort to know that you are not alone....I hope they help. Italian girl from Brooklyn, NY. Moved to Florida at age 10. Started writing at 13, but due to a few relationships, took it more seriously as I got older. Thanks to the encouragement of friends in Orange Park and Jacksonville, Fl., I put them in a book.

Book The Spider s Thread

Download or read book The Spider s Thread written by Keith J. Holyoak and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2024-03-12 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An examination of metaphor in poetry as a microcosm of the human imagination—a way to understand the mechanisms of creativity. In The Spider's Thread, Keith Holyoak looks at metaphor as a microcosm of the creative imagination. Holyoak, a psychologist and poet, draws on the perspectives of thinkers from the humanities—poets, philosophers, and critics—and from the sciences—psychologists, neuroscientists, linguists, and computer scientists. He begins each chapter with a poem—by poets including Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Sylvia Plath, Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Theodore Roethke, Du Fu, William Butler Yeats, and Pablo Neruda—and then widens the discussion to broader notions of metaphor and mind. Holyoak uses Whitman's poem “A Noiseless Patient Spider” to illustrate the process of interpreting a poem, and explains the relevance of two psychological mechanisms, analogy and conceptual combination, to metaphor. He outlines ideas first sketched by Coleridge—who called poetry “the best words in their best order”—and links them to modern research on the interplay between cognition and emotion, controlled and associative thinking, memory and creativity. Building on Emily Dickinson's declaration “the brain is wider than the sky,” Holyoak suggests that the control and default networks in the brain may combine to support creativity. He also considers, among other things, the interplay of sound and meaning in poetry; symbolism in the work of Yeats, Jung, and others; indirect communication in poems; the mixture of active and passive processes in creativity; and whether artificial intelligence could ever achieve poetic authenticity. Guided by Holyoak, we can begin to trace the outlines of creativity through the mechanisms of metaphor.

  • Author : William A. Dyrness
  • Publisher : Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing
  • Release : 2011
  • ISBN : 080286578X

Download or read book Poetic Theology written by William A. Dyrness and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the poetics of everyday life ? What can they teach us about God? Art, music, dance, and writing can certainly be poetic, but so can such diverse pastimes as fishing, skiing, or attending sports events. Any and all activities that satisfy our fundamental need for play, for celebration, and for ritual, says William Dyrness, are inherently poetic and in Poetic Theology he demonstrates that all such activities are places where God is active in the world. All of humanity s creative efforts, Dyrness points out, testify to our intrinsic longing for joy and delight and our deep desire to connect with others, with the created order, and especially with the Creator. This desire is rooted in the presence and calling of God in and through the good creation. With extensive reflection on aesthetics in spirituality, worship, and community development, Dyrness s Poetic Theology will be useful for all who seek fresh and powerful new ways to communicate the gospel in contemporary society. William Dyrness s bold invitation to a poetic theology shaped by Scripture, tradition, and imagination one luring us toward a fuller participation in beauty than argument or concept alone allow reminds us that truth itself is beautiful to behold and poetic to the core. . . . If poetry is in its deepest reflex an intensification of life, then Dyrness s call for a poetic theology is one we ignore at our peril, reminding us that faithful living is not only about proper thinking but also and, perhaps, more properly about the texture of our living and the quality of our loving. Mark S. Burrows Andover Newton Theological School Makes a strong case for aesthetics as one of the avenues used by God to draw human beings near to him and his glory. . . . A wonderful journey through Reformed spirituality and a wake-up call for Reformed theology. Cornelius van der Kooi Free University, Amsterdam

Book Poetic Leaps in Zen S Journey of Enlightenment

Download or read book Poetic Leaps in Zen S Journey of Enlightenment written by Yong Zhi and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-08-09 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the philosophical discussion of Zen spirituality reaches its limit, poetry offers an effective expression of the sublime experiences. From a poetic perspective, enlightenment is understood as poetic leaps in the spiritual journey, which brings people from the habitually or conventionally established world toward new horizons of consciousness. This leap is a breakthrough in the overall consciousness, rather than a progression in contemplative thought. Therefore, it cannot be adequately described through abstract representation, but poetry can metaphorically capture this leap and reveal both the spiritual meaning and the practical wisdom of enlightenment. This book will take you on this fantastic journey of enlightenment.

Book excerpt: My thoughts in words. This is a collection of poems that started as a hobby; a pastime. It talks about hopes and dreams, love and faith, courage and fears. It is my artistic expression of what I feel and observe; heart and mind combined. Life is not always 'a bed of roses'. Sometimes there are struggles that can make or break you. It is definitely our choice that decides our fate. These poems can inspire you to do great things in your daily lives. They can be a source of guidance and warning. We need to be very aware of what's happening around us and more importantly inside our own selves. I never believed before that writing can be very therapeutic until two years ago in 2016 when I started to write my first poem. Exploring and honing our God-given talents can be very fulfilling. I was surprised that I became addicted to poetry-writing and finally decided to publish my own book. This is my way of praising the Lord for His everlasting love and abundant blessings. TO GOD BE THE HIGHEST GLORY.
