Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A world ever more extensively interlinked is calling out for serving human interests broader and more compelling than those inspiring our technological welfare. The interface between cultures – at the moment especially between the Occident and Islam – presents challenges to mutual understandings and calls for restoring the resources of our human beings forgotten in the struggle of competition and rivalry at the vital spheres of existence. In the evolutionary progress of the living beings the strictly vital concerns, emotions, attributes become sublimed and elevated to the spiritual sphere at which human beings encounter each other and share. Studies presented here bring forth sublimity, generosity, forgiveness, beauty, and are exalting the quest after ciphers and symbols which lead to our sharing the common deepest stream of fraternal reality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carl McKever was born on November 10, 1988 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Ever since 2007, Carl has been writing poetry for the glory of God. On February 15, 2008, Carl started a poetry club, called Surf and Verse Poetry Club, and ran as Chairman and President. On March 15, 2008, Carl joined the Florida State Poets Association and sponsored his poetry club through them. In June 2008, he was nominated as Web Administrator for the organization and is still holding this vacancy. Carl opened Surf and Verse Poetry Club to the community in July 2009 and the name was changed to Fort Lauderdale Poets. Two months later, the club fell apart and no longer exists today. The Surf and Verse Poetry Club met twice a month and had a website during its active year. Shortly after the breaking of Surf and Verse Poetry Club, Carl began submitting his poems into editorials, newsletters, e-zines, and calls from different universities. In January 2010, God blessed Carl McKever to self-publish his first book of poetry, through InstantPublisher Book Services. After the publication of his book, he began writing new poems and his perspective towards others, who had passion for poetry, became intense. Carl visited many writing workshops and open-mike sessions throughout the State of Florida, and in August 2010, he was known as the Florida State Poetry Ambassador. In October 2010, he left Florida and moved to Dubuque, Iowa for a new job. Carl is still a resident of Dubuque and has joined the Iowa Poetry Association (IPA). He became an Area Representative for IPA and is still writing poems today. Recently, he self-published another book of poetry, called Poetic Expressions, through BowkerLink Book Publishing Company. He is still working on his press release and marketing his book through thousands of news companies. Carl has submitted a various amount of his poems to American Literary Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, Literary Review of Canada, 95Notes (based in Chicago, Illinois), and many other e-zines. He started working on his autobiography in June 2009, but placed it on hold within the last couple of months. He plans on revising his current autobiography and self-publishing it at the age of 25 years. Carl also created a website to display some of his very own poetry and has many poetic goals he would like to achieve, such as establishing a poetry and writing group in his local community.

Download or read book Civic Passions written by Cecelia Tichi and published by Univ of North Carolina Press. This book was released on 2009-10-01 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A gripping and inspiring book, Civic Passions examines innovative leadership in periods of crisis in American history. Starting from the late nineteenth century, when respected voices warned that America was on the brink of collapse, Cecelia Tichi explores the wisdom of practical visionaries who were confronted with a series of social, political, and financial upheavals that, in certain respects, seem eerily similar to modern times. The United States--then, as now--was riddled with political corruption, financial panics, social disruption, labor strife, and bourgeois inertia. Drawing on a wealth of evocative personal accounts, biographies, and archival material, Tichi brings seven iconoclastic--and often overlooked--individuals from the Gilded Age back to life. We meet physician Alice Hamilton, theologian Walter Rauschenbusch, jurist Louis D. Brandeis, consumer advocate Florence Kelley, antilynching activist Ida B. Wells-Barnett, economist John R. Commons, and child-welfare advocate Julia Lathrop. Bucking the status quo of the Gilded Age as well as middle-class complacency, these reformers tirelessly garnered popular support as they championed progressive solutions to seemingly intractable social problems. Civic Passions is a provocative and powerfully written social history, a collection of minibiographies, and a user's manual on how a generation of social reformers can turn peril into progress with fresh, workable ideas. Together, these narratives of advocacy provide a stunning precedent of progressive action and show how citizen-activists can engage the problems of the age in imaginative ways. While offering useful models to encourage the nation in a newly progressive direction, Civic Passions reminds us that one determined individual can make a difference.

Book Railway Travel in Modern Theatre

Download or read book Railway Travel in Modern Theatre written by Kyle Gillette and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-05-22 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Railway travel has had a significant influence on modern theatre's sense of space and time. Early in the 20th century, breakthroughs--ranging from F.T. Marinetti's futurist manifestos to epic theatre's use of the treadmill--explored the mechanical rhythms and perceptual effects of railway travel to investigate history, technology, and motion. After World War II, some playwrights and auteur directors, from Armand Gatti to Robert Wilson to Amiri Baraka, looked to locomotion not as a radically new space and time but as a reminder of obsolescence, complicity in the Holocaust, and its role in uprooting people from their communities. By analyzing theatrical representations of railway travel, this book argues that modern theatre's perceptual, historical and social productions of space and time were stretched by theatre's attempts to stage the locomotive.
