Book Literatura Hispanoamericana

Download or read book Literatura Hispanoamericana written by David W. Foster and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-22 with total page 1216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Spanish-language anthology contains selections by 45 Latin-American authors. It is intended as a text for upper division Latin American literature survey courses. The anthology presumes a high level of linguistic command of Spanish, and it contains footnotes to allusions and cultural references, as well as words and phrases not found in standard bilingual dictionaries used in the US. Emphasis is on major 20th-century writers, while important works from colonial and 19th-century literature as also included. The diverse selections of Literature Hispanoamericana will enable students to have a more sustained exposure to major voices of Latin American literature than possible in anthologies built around fragments. By focusing on fewer authors but more significant selections from their writings, students will have a greater grasp of major canonical figures as well as emergent voices.

Book Medicine Power and the Authoritarian Regime in Hispanic Literature

Download or read book Medicine Power and the Authoritarian Regime in Hispanic Literature written by Oscar A. Pérez and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-30 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a substantial examination of how contemporary authors deal with the complex legacies of authoritarian regimes in various Spanish-speaking countries. It does so by focusing on works that explore an under-studied aspect: the reliance of authoritarian power on medical notions for political purposes. From the Porfirian regime in Mexico to Castro’s Cuba, this book describes how such regimes have sought to seize medical knowledge to support propagandistic ideas and marginalize their opponents in ways that transcend specific pathologies, political ideologies, and geographical and temporal boundaries. Medicine, Power, and the Authoritarian Regime in Hispanic Literature brings together the work of literary scholars, cultural critics, and historians of medicine, arguing that contemporary authors have actively challenged authoritarian narratives of medicine and disease. In doing so, they continue to re-examine the place of these regimes in the collective memory of Latin America and Spain.

Book Place and Displacement in the Narrative Worlds of Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cort zar

Download or read book Place and Displacement in the Narrative Worlds of Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cort zar written by Nataly Tcherepashenets and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2008 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Place and Displacement in the Narrative Worlds of Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortázar engages the notions of place and displacement as heuristic devices for literary analysis of Borges's and Cortázar's narratives. It maps out these authors' visions of place and displacement in some of their most famous texts; locates the 'place' of Borges's texts within Cortázar's fictional universe; and delineates new routes in communication between different literary traditions, and philosophical and anthropological discourses. This book also suggests that the challenge of a strict opposition between place and displacement in Borges's and Cortázar's works is both representative and emblematic of a continuum of Latin American literature.

Book Spanish American Authors

Download or read book Spanish American Authors written by Angel Flores and published by New York : Wilson. This book was released on 1992 with total page 944 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The late scholar and critic Flores (1900-1992) selected some 330 major novelists and poets from Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America, both as exemplars of the literature of all the countries of Spanish America and as personally important literary creators. Flores knew most of the authors and was able to obtain from many extraordinary autobiographical passages that often form a part of the author's sketch. Most of the sketches were written in Spanish and translated into English. Critical insights and assessments of translations (a feature of inestimable value and interest) accompany biographies and autobiographies. All material was edited by Flores, who also prepared most of the excellent and extensive bibliographies. Annotation copyright by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Book Ensayos sobre cr tica literaria

Download or read book Ensayos sobre cr tica literaria written by Antonio Alatorre and published by El Colegio de Mexico AC. This book was released on 2013-08-24 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
