Book A Collection of Poetry about Online Dating

Download or read book A Collection of Poetry about Online Dating written by Elise Sharron and published by . This book was released on 2017-10-05 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection looks at online dating in 2017 from three different perspectives. First, a comedic look as we see a young woman talk about how easy dating is, jump on her apps and start swiping. She even jokes with her mom about how she can¿t believe all of the effort people use to go through to date ¿back in the day.¿ Next we see a woman, older than the first woman who talks about her reservations to online dating. She didn¿t feel like she was ready but after some encouragement from her girlfriends she decides that maybe it is time. After meeting a ¿nice guy¿ she finds herself on the receiving end of a sexual assault that takes her to a dark place, but reminds her to trust herself before anyone else. Lastly, we see the high spirited grandmother who is introduced to the world of online dating by her granddaughter. She swipes right, connects with an elderly man who, like her, just wants someone to talk to. They have both lived long lives, lost their significant others, but have decided that a friend to talk to might be exactly what they need. It makes you smile and feel the love that is possible at any age.

Book Poems for the Body Temple

  • Author : Luciana J. Hugueney
  • Publisher : Balboa Press

  • ISBN : 1504382935
  • Pages : 53 pages

Download or read book Poems for the Body Temple written by Luciana J. Hugueney and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2017-06-24 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this new collection of poems, the author of Poems for the Soul continues her journey of self-exploration through the healing world of poetry. Enjoy the ride as the author, poem by poem, dives deeper in search of greater meaning and inner peace. KIRKUS REVIEW Hugueney (Poems for the Soul, 2016) offers an elegantly crafted journey of self-exploration through poetry. In a recent issue of The New Yorker, Ruth Franklin wrote about the persistent popularity of poet Mary Oliver, arguing that Olivers strength is her accessibility: she writes blank verse in a conversational style, with no typographical gimmicks. Reading this description, its easy to see why Hugueney calls Oliver beloved, because the younger poets verse can be described in very similar terms. Here, she writes about the elder writers influence: I do not have woods to stroll through, as beloved / poet Mary Oliver, but there are patches of green where I live / and the smell of wet earth, chirping birds, / and a gentle breeze to lose (or is it find?) myself in. This is Hugueney at her bestunpretentious, honest, limpid. This is her second volume, and it shows her rounding into form as a writer. Although she tackles a variety of topics in this effort, two stand out: the challenge of raising an autistic child and the struggle against a low-grade sorrow that she calls the fog. Hugueney has two kids, and the youngest is autistic. She writes, Autism takes its toll. / Only the strong will be given this challenge. / So many years of feeding, sweeping, swiping, / washing, brushing. / Its worse when Im alone with my son. / No one to laugh with, to share with. Sometimes, that toll seems too heavy to bear; this, it appears, is when the fog rolls in: As I swipe the elegant marble counter / with my soggy, faded washcloth, / I suddenly feel the fog creeping in again. One hears the creep of depression in lines like these, but its heartening to read an author whos willing to write so openly about the real emotional challenges of parenthood. Further, the collections journey ends with hope for the speaker and for her family. A late poem reads, I am on the right path. / Angels are lighting my way right now. / I just have to keep hold of my compass. / A new beginning is always possible. After finishing this book, one cant help but wish the author well as she continues on her own path. Affliction resolves into hope and light in this cathartic collection.

Book Bone Fragments

  • Author : Rick Christiansen
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2024-01-24

  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Bone Fragments written by Rick Christiansen and published by . This book was released on 2024-01-24 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Whitman wrote "who touches this book touches a man." When we pick up Rick Christiansen's powerful and elegant Bone Fragments, we also touch a man's history and character. The poems are shaped by Christiansen's life, his alcoholic, abusive mother, the younger brother he stole groceries to feed, and now, his relationship with the much-loved grandson he is raising. Bone Fragments does not shy away from human beings at their worst-the poems address, unsparingly, neglect and abuse, but Christiansen often holds back from judgment. He understands what it's like not to have options, to do the best you can under the circumstances. In "Baby Teeth," for example, a caregiver prepares to use small pliers to extract a child's recalcitrant baby teeth, dental work that they cannot otherwise afford. The best poetry gives us a sense of the reality of someone else's life, what it's like to be someone else. This is Rick Christiansen's kind of poetry, and if you read Bone Fragments, it will be yours as well." -George Franklin, author of Remote Cities and first prize winner of the 2023 W.B. Yeats Poetry Prize. "A combo of self-fillet and whimsy! Hermann Hesse and Anais Nin on a Tinder date? Swipe right on this book!" -Frank Higgins, On Earth as it is (Spartan Press) "Rick Christiansen is a gifted writer who knows how to pull you in and keep you reading. His Bone Fragments is a fine collection of poems that got under my feet and made me feel a world of emotions. He digs deep, exposes horror, unearths marvels and tugs at the roots of hope and pathos with a penetrating humanity." -John Burroughs, U.S. National Beat Poet Laureate (2022-23) and author of Rattle and Numb "Rick Christiansen is a poetic archeologist pealing back the layers of his life with no anesthetic. Each transgressive event is dug up and laid out on the white earth of the page for the reader to see. Each poem in this amazing book is a bit of bone from the broken skeleton of his life. Bone Fragments opens the poet's life to what must be confronted, must be negotiated, must be accepted, and what must be surrendered, then finally to believe it all and laugh. Christiansen conducts a brilliant, heartfelt and painful excavation of his life. If readers only read one book of poetry this year it should be Bone Fragments" -Walter Bargen, First Poet Laureate of Missouri, author of Radiation Diary "Rick C. Christiansen is a poet whose time has come. His long overdue debut full-length collection Bone Fragments is well crafted, heartfelt, and at times almost chillingly honest about the things we all go through in this life, if we live long enough to tell the tale, and thankfully for us, Rick is still out there, his words laid bare on these pages, guiding us home with the truth as his only compass." -John Dorsey, Author of Pocatello Wildflower
