Book excerpt: This collection covers many subjects - though the element of time might be considered its keystone - a sort of sequel to earlier collections entitled HOURGLASS & Other Poems, POTHOLES & Other Poems, and Time Alone? & Other Poems. Twilight is just another time-setting and can stand for a particular period in one's life or an institution or nation. In the writer's view, the nation, besides suffering under poor governance currently, is also suffering a psychological emergency, with the government aiding and abetting - if not causing - a moral decline. While sin is defined by God, morals are determined by the individual, so there's wild disagreement with that statement but to each his own, and each is entitled to his own soapbox, teleprompter, pulpit or poetry collection. Religion (including religious practices...or malpractices) is also an important subject handled in this offering.

Book Into the Twilight of Sanskrit Court Poetry

Download or read book Into the Twilight of Sanskrit Court Poetry written by Jesse Ross Knutson and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2014-03-14 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the turn of the twelfth-century into the thirteenth, at the court of King Laksmanasena of Bengal, Sanskrit poetry showed profound and sudden changes: a new social scope made its definitive entrance into high literature. Courtly and pastoral, rural and urban, cosmopolitan and vernacular confronted each other in a commingling of high and low styles. A literary salon in what is now Bangladesh, at the eastern extreme of the nexus of regional courtly cultures that defined the age, seems to have implicitly reformulated its entire literary system in the context of the imminent breakdown of the old courtly world, as Turkish power expanded and redefined the landscape. Through close readings of a little-known corpus of texts from eastern India, this ambitious book demonstrates how a local and rural sensibility came to infuse the cosmopolitan language of Sanskrit, creating a regional literary idiom that would define the emergence of the Bengali language and its literary traditions.

Book Clouds in Twilight

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mary Churchwell
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2017-01-20
  • ISBN : 1524578193
  • Pages : 46 pages

Download or read book Clouds in Twilight written by Mary Churchwell and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-01-20 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clouds in Twilight is a short collection of poems written by Mary Churchwell. While some are lighthearted and whimsical, many are deep and meaningful. Being directly related to a real person or a dog and their personal story. Some border on the dark side, as in Farewell, Canine Brother. It was written in Tribute to a loyal and (perhaps) too wise dog that gave its life in order for its owner to gain the courage, to walk away from an abusive relationship. The poem Nightmare Land pertains to a young man, overdosed on drugs. The Old Man and His Dogs was an actual event as seen through the author's eyes. All of the people and the dogs were real. Now being deceased. So the title Clouds in Twilight seems most fitting, to convey the depth of emotion that the author felt while composing each poem. The author invites you to use your imagination a bit, if you cannot relate personally. But she believes you can as there is something here for everyone. You may askare there more? She can assure you that there are many more.
