Book excerpt: I have always felt in my heart, yes, we can have it all. I didn't grow up in a religious environment, so I was given the freedom to seek my own spiritual journey. Everything opened up for me, after receiving ‘a gift’ during an angelic visitation, which occurred on January 11, 2011 at 1:00 a.m. Love all the ones ... angels! It just so happens to be my stepfather’s birthday. (He passed over November 7, 2006). I began writing poetry with ease, something that, in the past, has never been a forte of mine. It has taken me just over a year to work out exactly what this gift is, and I am now helping others to heal, transmuting their negative energy and giving them the self-empowerment to transform their lives and live in joy. I am in the process of writing a book about this experience, the events leading up to this and what has transpired since. This experience has changed my life. I find myself saying, this is the best I have felt in my whole life. All I can say is, blessings to God for answering my prayers, I am grateful.

Book excerpt: A deeply humane new collection by a luminary of Bengali literature A radiant collection of poetry about womanhood, intimacy, and the body politic that together evokes the arc of an ordinary life. Nabaneeta Dev Sen's rhythmic lines explore the joys and agonies of first love, childbirth, and decay with a restless, tactile imagination, both picking apart and celebrating the rituals that make us human. When she warns, "know that blood can be easily drawn by lips," her words tune to the fierce and biting depths of language, to the "treachery that lingers on tongue tips." At once compassionate and unsparing, conversational and symphonic, these poems tell of a rope shivering beneath an acrobat's nimble feet or of a twisted, blood-soaked umbilical cord -- they pluck the invisible threads that bind us together.

Book excerpt: A practical step-by-step manual for educating, enlightening and empowering children to be their best selves In today’s society kids hardly get to enjoy their childhood, as they are faced with mounting pressures at school, within their family, and among their peers. Children are overexposed to violence and deprived of lessons on self-love and inner peace . . . but imagine a world where they are given tools to speak their truth, follow their hearts, and above all believe in themselves. You see, deep inside every one of us is a light that shines brightly when we are aligned with our higher self—our absolute best self. When we allow fear to drive our action, we dim that light within. Yet when we believe in ourselves, speak our truth, and do what feels right in our hearts, we ignite the light and become the best possible version of ourselves. Whether you are a parent, a teacher, a child-care worker, or just a person who would like to leave this world a little more peaceful than you found it, this book will give you the tools to educate, enlighten, and empower our children to see that they are perfect just as they are. Ignite the Light is a practical step-by-step manual for change that provides tools from which all children—and all families—will benefit.

Book Journey of the Heart

Download or read book Journey of the Heart written by Catherine Ghosh and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2014-07-25 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has woven together the voices of over seventy women of diverse ethnicities and traditions. In meditative and insightful poems, they offer us revealing glimpses of their souls engaged in meaningful dialogue with the world, others, themselves, and divinity. This spiritual poetry draws from the timeless wisdom, power, and beauty residing deeply within the hearts of all women. Emerging within archetypal themes that deliver valuable messages, the inspiring and uninhibited chorus of voices beckons us to journey along with them into the wild, mysterious, and uncharted territory of a womans heart. In this beautiful volume of poetry, Catherine Ghosh gives us the voices of womens spiritual expressions across cultures. The many women who contribute their hopes, fears, visions, and life narratives to this volume fulfill the poet Muriel Rukeysers injunction: Breathe in experience, breathe out poetry. Every woman (and man) will find poetry that speaks to the heart and the soul. I highly recommend this volume to anyone who values the poetry of womens lives and imaginations. Roberta Rosenberg, Professor of English and Co-Director of Womens and Gender Studies, Christopher Newport University, Virginia This beautiful book of verses speaks of the longings of the heart, the habits of the mind, the prayers often unspoken; of silent cries in the dark to God, to the universe, to life itselfto anyone who may listen and be moved. It is an ode to the muzzled yearnings of half of humanity. Rita D. Sherma, PhD, Swami Vivekananda Visiting Professor, University of Southern California

It will be the first in the series of her spiritual poetry or "vision quest poetry" to be published. The poetry awakens one to the Truth within as we walk the path, the journey, and wake from the slumber of separation from parts of self and divinity. The resulting self-forgiveness allows one to step forward into wholeness without the false archetype of perfection. When blame and self-judgment are transformed, healed, and cease to be, we have reawakened from the myth, "the mythos," of separation. We are One.

Book Collected Poems

  • Author : Lorna Goodison
  • Publisher : Carcanet Press Ltd

  • ISBN : 1784104671
  • Pages : 629 pages

Download or read book Collected Poems written by Lorna Goodison and published by Carcanet Press Ltd. This book was released on 2017-04-15 with total page 629 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lorna Goodison is a poet alive to places, from the loved and lived-in world of Jamaica where she began and started a family, to the United States and Canada where she has made her teaching career, but always re-connecting with her Caribbean roots. She travels with an ear alert to histories and voices. How differently English sounds in the tropi and in colder lands, at seaside in sunlight and on prairies, mountains and in cities. The same words say quite different things, depending on who speaks them and who's listening, obeying or resisting. She covers a wide range of subjects and themes, too. Her instinct is to celebrate being alive in a world that is rich but in peril. 'And what is the rare quality that has gone out of poetry that these marvellous poems restore?' asks Derek Walcott. 'Joy.' The 'mango of poetry', eaten straight from the tree, Goodison somehow finds growing in Wordsworth country and in Sligo, in Russia and Norway, in Spain and Portugal which spilled their empires into the Caribbean, in Hungary and Far Rockaway. // 'The publication of Lorna Goodison's Collected Poems – with their extraordinary music, sensuous texture, and powerful historical imagination – is a major event. These are poems stunningly alive to the nuances of language, beautifully pitched and tuned, rich with feeling and insight.' Jahan Ramazani // 'Lorna Goodison brings herself into the presence of every poem, and so into the presence of her readers. Like the ideal teacher, she enables us to hear history sing its joy and shout its rage in her own personal tones of voice, and to feel the folds and textures of her various homelands like a display of rich cloths. She excels in both the emblematic and descriptive powers of popular poetry, and introduces us to an array of characters sharply but generously perceived, and often as deliciously audible after death as in life. This is an inspiring collection for a time when hopes for transnational unity are profoundly challenged. Goodison's poems frequently acknowledge the complex unhealed scars of imperial greed and violence, but the impulse is towards hope, and our imaginations are enchanted by a potential global spring of warmth, nourishment, camaraderie and sheer fun. In the poet's own words of gratitude to "Miss Mirry African bush healing woman", we should "turn thanks now" to Lorna Goodison for addressing us across so many years on her unique world-service of human truth – and stay tuned.' Carol Rumens

Merging memory and medical records, Kevin Spenst recreates his father's life through a cuckoo's nest of styles that both stand as witness and waltz to the interplay between memory, emotion and all our forms of becoming. ..".with a fearless layering of voice, IGNITE is upfront and unswerving.
