Book excerpt: “In My Father’s Arms is a beautiful reminder that peace and love are available to us at every moment if we so choose.” —John Gray, Author of Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus Every day we make choices based on what we believe about ourselves. If we know ourselves to be the powerful, spiritual beings that we are, then all our choices are born of love. If we believe we're victims of the world we see, our choices are based on fear and a belief in lack, so anger, guilt and shame are what we experience. Through beautiful poems, thoughts and prayers, In My Father's Arms takes us back to our beginnings; helps us to remember ourselves as God created us: whole, pure, perfect, innocent and free. It reminds us that peace, joy, love and light are our true qualities and that this identity never changes no matter what we experience in this life. In My Father's Arms helps us to release fear and choose love for ourselves, our relationships and the world at large and to remember that only the love is real.

Book excerpt: From tenth-century Japan's Izumi Shikibu, colonial America's Anne Bradstreet, and Victorian England's Elizabeth Barrett Browning to Israel's Yehuda Amichai, Ireland's Paul Muldoon, and Russia's Anna Akhmatova, poets across the centuries and around the world have immortalized this elemental relationship. Among the more than seventy poets in this anthology, Audre Lorde recalls "How the days went / While you were blooming within me"; Jorie Graham muses on her mother's sewing box; Allen Ginsberg says goodbye in "Kaddish"; and Langston Hughes invokes a mother's empowering example- "Don't you fall now- / For I'se still goin', honey, / I'se still climbin', / And life for me ain't been no crystal stair." From Emily Bronte's "Upon Her Soothing Breast" and Seamus Heaney's "Mother of the Groom" to Sylvia Plath's "Morning Song" and Frank O'Hara's "Ave Maria," the more than one hundred poems collected here enshrine the miracle of motherhood and the richness of feeling and experience it inspires.

Book excerpt: Have you ever experienced moments in time when it affected you so strongly that you had to do something to express that? Some people do it through art, music, painting, and then there is writing it down. There are many seasons in life that we all go through here on earth, and we all have different ways to find our peace, comfort and strength to deal with them and get through them. Sometimes they are times of excitement and joy (my favorite). As emotional human beings we can not help but express ourselves. I found mine in the Lord and the poems He inspired me to write. It is in these special or trying times that we need to take time for ourselves and examine what we are feeling, thinking and experiencing. Through these experiences we need to remember that our heavenly Father is always available to help, heal, strengthen and comfort us. It is the good and bad times in this life that we all share in our humanity on this earth. We all need each other and it is my prayer that we will all draw closer to the Lord and each other since life is so short. We have so much to share with each other! God bless you on your journey in this life and may you make the most of them to the fullest and in joy!

Book Twenty Poems to Pray

  • Author : Gary M. Bouchard
  • Publisher : Liturgical Press
  • Release : 2019-08-01
  • ISBN : 0814664946
  • Pages : 128 pages

Download or read book Twenty Poems to Pray written by Gary M. Bouchard and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2019-08-01 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing from the poetry of generations of esteemed writers Gary Bouchard shows how poems often express the longings of the human heart as a kind of prayer. Emily Dickinson, Rev. Rowan Williams, Pope John Paul II, Christina Rossetti, Robert Frost, and Fr. Kilian McDonnell, OSB, among others, offer readers an inspiring path to reflect upon and pray with poetic verse. Arranged under six engaging themes, each selection uses the words of poets as vehicles to prompt “heaven in ordinary” or to praise like “exalted manna”; to find the right “paraphrase” for your own soul or maybe sense your “soul’s blood”; to muster up from your grief or anger “reversed thunder” or dare to articulate from your own personal anguish “Christ-side-piercing spear.”

Book A Father And Son Book of Poetry and Prose

Download or read book A Father And Son Book of Poetry and Prose written by Harry C. James and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-09-22 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early part of 2012, my dad and I published A Father and Son Book of Poetry and Prose. Now in the late summer of 2017, I am very delighted to share more of what my dad and I have to offer the world through A Father-and-Son Book of Poetry and Prose: Volume II. This is especially for my dad, who passed away in June of this year. I recall some time ago telling him he should make an effort to get his work published. This did not seem to be a great concern of his, but he always enjoyed writing, drawing humorous cartoons, painting on occasion, and simply sharing his creative side with family and friends. I am incredibly grateful to him, and I know I speak for my brothers and my mom too. So I have made it my concern to publish everything I found and know that he has written through poetry. He is the one that instilled in me an interest in writing and poetry that has lasted for many years now and continues to do so. This creative side of his opened a dimension of creativity to me not just in writing but in all facets of the world around us. He always had an interesting perspective on things that he was not shy about expressing. He was a lifelong Democrat, for instance. At a high school football banquet, one of the other dads, who was also a Democrat, wanted to share a little political banter with my dad. The other dad was basically criticizing everything about the current Republican administration. He figured my dad would comfortably agree with everything he was saying. No way. Although a fellow Democrat, my dad challenged him on every point. He would do this with regularity. He would hear one perspective but was very good at understanding and expressing why the other guy might feel differently. Another little story I recall goes back a little further to my grade-school days. My mom, myself, and brothers had just gotten in the door from church. Dad had stayed behind to do a little painting around the house. I began sharing how excited I was that my mom had gotten me a new book. He chimed in almost immediately, reminding me how thankful I should be because some kids were not able to receive little gifts from their parents on a consistent basis or at all because they did not have the means. This stopped me in my thoughts, humbled me, and made me think more deeply about life even though I was a young little whippersnapper. I wish with all my heart I could share this second volume with him and squeeze him with all my might. He is no longer here, but a part of him lives on through my mom and brothers. I wish you could have met him too, but through his poetry, I am so glad you can get to know a piece of him as well. My earthly father is gone now, but as I observe more closely how my heavenly Father allows for the seasons of life to continue and all the legacy and lessons that pertain to this, I am truly a blessed and thankful man.

Book excerpt: Dr. Bob Flowers has created a wonderful children's book of rhyming prayers, filled with heartwarming illustrations he created to emphasize their poetic messages. Thank You For The Morning Light is for the entire family to share and enjoy, bringing them closer together while strengthening both their faith and their spiritual relationships. As you pray together, often memorizing the poems, and alternating the reading (or saying) of its lines, you grow closer to each other; and you grow closer to our Father in Heaven. There is little in life that children enjoy more than reading out loud, memorizing, reciting and making rhyme - like that in the book. May it be a blessing for you and those you love!
