Book Poems from the Rocky Mountains

Download or read book Poems from the Rocky Mountains written by A. Albert Aguero and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014-11-19 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poems from the Rocky Mountains is about situations people experience in their environment as they happen and at different times, using poetic language and imagery. This is not a run-of-the-mill-poetry book; neither will it make me famous. I was told that to be a famous poet, the poet has to be six feet under first, and at my age, I don't want to be famous at all. The book is the result of training and experience as an immigrant, adopting the language, the way of life, and the way of thinking in my adopted country for the last sixty-eight years, never forgetting that English is my daily means of communication. In order to believe the above statement, you have to read my book. I bring the flow of my Indian/Hispanic heritage and sensitivity to the American poetic stream, which produces out of the two factors, the oneness that makes Poems from the Rocky Mountains a unique book. This is why most of the topics in it are as American as baseball and apple pie, but spiced with tropical flavor: goal achievement, the Rocky Mountain landscape, the Old West tradition, patriotism, geographical wonders, personal, family and social problems, abstract and humorous poetry, the tropical landscape, international, romantic, lyrical, child-appropriate, rhymed and metered styles and elegies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Rocky Mountains at Sunset: And Other Poems The Rocky Mountains, and Other Poems. The Rocky Mountains at Sunset. See how yon sky is draped with gold, With shining purple and crimson robes, Mist-like in form, that far upward stream In the track just traversed by the blazing sun, Which smiled ere he retired! And this Must be the reflex of that smile. He dimpled the heaven's fair face Until it shone with thousand wiles; He crowned the eternal snows with soft, roseate hues; Or, creeping over them, he left a blood-red glow On each frozen, glacial brow, which ever Smileth back to meet his parting glance. See yon gray peaks, shut in By massive folding clouds, changing and mysterious! About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rockies Autumn Haiku, by poet and neuroscientist Judith Lauter, provides a photographic and poetic account of three fall months in several locations in the southern Rocky Mountains. When you think of the Rockies, with their towering peaks, immense vistas, and deep snows, you might think that only an "epic" poem could do them justice something on the scale of a Homer or Milton perhaps. The highly condensed, snapshot-like haiku might be the last poetic form imaginable to capture their glory. And yet Rockies Autumn Haiku clearly proves that even the majestic Rockies can be memorably rendered in poetry of brevity, wit, keen observation, and vivid imagery. Here is a mountain autumn, then, seen in unforgettable micro-scale viewed through the double prism of fresh poems and striking color photographs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By any measure, Gary Snyder is one of the greatest poets in America in the last century. From his first book of poems to his latest collection of essays, his work and his example, standing between Tu Fu and Thoreau, have been influential all over the world. Riprap, his first book of poems, was published in Japan in 1959 by Origin Press, and it is the fiftieth anniversary of that groundbreaking book we celebrate with this edition. A small press reprint of that book included Snyder's translations of Han Shan's Cold Mountain Poems, perhaps the finest translations of that remarkable poet ever made into English. Reintroducing one of the twentieth century's foremost collections of poetry, this edition will please those already familiar with this work and excite a new generation of readers with its profound simplicity and spare elegance.
