Book Quiet Time Poems

    Book Details:
  • Author : David Edwin Hall
  • Publisher : Author House
  • Release : 2014-11-06
  • ISBN : 149695095X
  • Pages : 1007 pages

Download or read book Quiet Time Poems written by David Edwin Hall and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014-11-06 with total page 1007 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every day, there are treasures to be discovered by anyone who will honestly come to hear the voice of the Savior in his Word. The Lord Jesus indicates that there is an added blessing for those who will write down the insights he gives by his instruction: ?Every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old? (Matthew 13:52). The poems in this book are the result of going to the Bible each day with an expectation that God has something very valuable to say. That expectation has NEVER been disappointed. Our risen Lord said, ?I stand at the door and knock. If any man hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and will sup with him, and he with Me? (Revelation 3:20). This intimate, two-way communion with God is offered to all those who have received the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:12) and thereby ?have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God, that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God? (1 Corinthians 2:12). My prayer is that God may use this book for his glory, for the encouragement of his own children, and for the persuasion of those who may yet be awakened to their need of our Savior. ?Blessed is the man that heareth Me, watching daily at My gates, waiting at the post of My doors? (Proverbs 8:34). Heaven is waiting. Don't miss it for the world.

Book The Gods Rich in Praise

Download or read book The Gods Rich in Praise written by Christopher Metcalf and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many scholars today believe that early Greek literature, as represented by the great poems of Homer and Hesiod, was to some extent inspired by texts from the neighbouring civilizations of the ancient Near East, especially Mesopotamia. It is true that, in the case of religious poetry, early Greek poets sang about their gods in ways that resemble those of Sumerian or Akkadian hymns from Mesopotamia, but does this mean that the latter influenced the former, and if so, how? This volume is the first to attempt an answer to these questions by undertaking a detailed study of the ancient texts in their original languages, from Sumerian poetry in the 20th century BC to Greek sources from the times of Homer, Hesiod, Pindar, and Aeschylus. The Gods Rich in Praise presents the core groups of sources from the ancient Near East, describing the main features of style and content of Sumerian and Akkadian religious poetry, and showing how certain compositions were translated and adapted beyond Mesopotamia. It proceeds by comparing selected elements of form and content: hymnic openings, negative predication, the birth of Aphrodite in the Theogony of Hesiod, and the origins and development of a phrase in Hittite prayers and the Iliad of Homer. The volume concludes that, in terms of form and style, early Greek religious poetry was probably not indebted to ancient Near Eastern models, but also argues that such influence may nevertheless be perceived in certain closely defined instances, particularly where supplementary evidence from other ancient sources is available, and where the extant sources permit a reconstruction of the process of translation and adaptation.

Seek the Lord, and you will find help among the pages of this book a poem that you can relate to, during any trial you may encounter, or any circumstance you may find yourself going through in the future. One day while praying and grieving, my heart was filled with such sorrow particularly over the loss of my precious son, through tear-filled eyes, I began to cry out to God asking, "Why my son Lord? He didn't do anything. He was such a wonderful loving son to me. Why my precious son?" His reply shocked me to reality. What I heard Him say, caused me to feel so ashamed, that I had even dared to question my Creator, The Almighty God and Giver of life. He answered me, "You question me about calling your son home. I too had a Son whom I loved so very much, He became a sacrificial lamb, so that you could have forgiveness of sins and eternal life. The pain you feel for your loss could never match the pain of knowing when my Son was suffering on the cross, I had to turn away, leaving Him feeling forsaken, because I could not look upon sin, which is why His blood was shed so that you could be covered in His righteousness. I know that I can never repay Him for all He has done for me, but I feel from the depths of my soul, that using the literary gift Father God has so graciously bestowed upon me thru His mercy, love, and kindness, is my small way of saying thank you Lord Jesus for paying my sin debt in full. If you are a Mother or Father, that has experienced the Loss of a son or a daughter, this book will truly bless you with God's Grace. Just have FAITH in God, and He will surely see you thru.

  • ISBN : 0822980428
  • Pages : 101 pages

Download or read book More Money than God written by Richard Michelson and published by University of Pittsburgh Press. This book was released on 2015-02-21 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do we come to terms with loss? How do we find love after tragedy? How can art and language help us to cope with life, and honor the dead? How does one act responsibly in a world that is both beautiful, full of suffering, and balanced precariously on the edge of despair and ruin? With humor, anger and great tenderness, Richard Michelson's poems explore the boundaries between the personal and the political, and the connections between history and memory. Growing up under the shadow of the Holocaust, in a Brooklyn neighborhood consumed with racial strife, Michelson's experiences were far from ordinary, yet they remain too much a part of the greater circle of poverty and violence to be dismissed as merely private concerns, safely past. It is Michelson's sense of humor and acute awareness of Jewish history, with its ancient emphasis on the fundamental worth of human existence that makes this accessible book, finally, celebratory and life-affirming.
