Book excerpt: It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 38th ACM SIGMOD-SIGACT-SIGAI Symposium on Principles of Database Systems (PODS 2019), held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on July 1- 3, 2019, in conjunction with the 2019 ACM SIGMOD International Conference on Management of Data. Since the first edition of the symposium in 1982, the PODS papers are distinguished by a rigorous approach to widely diverse problems in data management, often bringing to bear techniques from a variety of different areas, including computational logic, finite model theory, computational complexity, algorithm design and analysis, programming languages, and artificial intelligence. The PODS Symposia study data management challenges in a variety of application contexts, including more recently parallel computation, streaming and realtime data, and graph data processing algorithms. PODS has a tradition of being the premier international conference on the theoretical and foundational aspects of data management, and the interested reader is referred to the web page https: //databasetheory.org/pods for information on the history of this conference series. This year's symposium continues this tradition and invited for submission papers providing original, substantial contributions in one or more of the following categories: a) deep theoretical exploration of topical areas central to data management; b) new formal frameworks that aim at providing a basis for deeper theoretical investigation of important emerging issues in data management; and c) validation of theoretical approaches from the lens of practical applicability in data management. Papers in this track should provide an experimental evaluation that gives new insight in established theories. Besides, they should provide a clear message to the database theory community as to which aspects need further (theoretical) investigation, based on the experimental findings. As in previous years, PODS operated with two submission cycles. The first cycle allowed for the possibility for papers to be revised and resubmitted. For the first cycle, 36 papers were submitted, 4 of which were directly selected for inclusion in the proceedings, and 8 were invited for a resubmission after a revision. The quality of the revised papers increased substantially with respect to the first submission, and all of the revised papers were selected for the proceedings. For the second cycle, 51 papers were submitted, 17 of which were selected, resulting in 29 papers selected overall from a total number of 87 submissions. This volume contains the proceedings of PODS 2019, which include papers on the keynote addressed by Cynthia Dwork of Harvard University, the two invited tutorials, one of the two Gems talks, and 29 contributions that were selected by the Program Committee for presentation at the symposium.

Book PODS 23

Download or read book PODS 23 written by Floris Geerts and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 42nd ACM SIGMOD-SIGACT-SIGAI Symposium on Principles of Database Systems (PODS 2023), held in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A., on June 18th - June 21st, 2023. As usual, PODS is held in conjunction with its sister conference, the 2023 ACM SIGMOD International Conference on Management of Data. Since the first edition of the symposium in 1982, PODS provides a premier annual forum for the communication of new advances in the theoretical foundations of data management. The PODS community aims to provide a solid scientific basis for methods, techniques and solutions for the data management problems that continually arise in our data-driven society. Our goal is to develop solutions that ensure a high level of efficiency, scalability, expressiveness, robustness, flexibility, security, and privacy, among others. In addition, the PODS community is an open space in which researchers from various areas related to the principles of computer science can discuss, interact, and propose solutions to pressing data management problems. PODS papers meet very high-quality standards and are distinguished by a rigorous approach to widely diverse problems in data management, often bringing to bear techniques from a variety of different areas, including computational logic, finite model theory, computational complexity, algorithm design and analysis, programming languages, privacy, statistical theory, and artificial intelligence. In particular, the papers included in this volume present principled contributions to modeling, application, system building, and both theoretical and experimental validation in the context of data management.

Book Production at the Leading Edge of Technology

Download or read book Production at the Leading Edge of Technology written by Bernd-Arno Behrens and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-04 with total page 693 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This congress proceedings provides recent research on leading-edge manufacturing processes. The aim of this scientific congress is to work out diverse individual solutions of "production at the leading edge of technology" and transferable methodological approaches. In addition, guest speakers with different backgrounds will give the congress participants food for thoughts, interpretations, views and suggestions. The manufacturing industry is currently undergoing a profound structural change, which on the one hand produces innovative solutions through the use of high-performance communication and information technology, and on the other hand is driven by new requirements for goods, especially in the mobility and energy sector. With the social discourse on how we should live and act primarily according to guidelines of sustainability, structural change is gaining increasing dynamic. It is essential to translate politically specified sustainability goals into socially accepted and marketable technical solutions. Production research is meeting this challenge and will make important contributions and provide innovative solutions from different perspectives.
