Book excerpt: The study of the population is one of the important aspects of research on human development. ‘Population Geography’ is one of the newly developed branches of Human Geography. Population means a set of humans in a given area and it is one of the dominant factors which is responsible for the development of any country or region because man is the utilizer of the physical earth and he is also the creator of the cultural earth. Simply, Population Geography means the study of the population and its characteristics. Population Geography studies Population growth, Distribution, Density, Literacy rate, Sex composition and Age structure, Health, Mortality, Morbidity, Migration, Fertility and reproductivity etc. India is the most populous country in the world. Our country covers only 2.4 percent of the land area of the world, whereas it is the home of more than 17.7 percent of the world’s population.

Book Reliability Assessments

Download or read book Reliability Assessments written by Franklin Richard Nash, Ph.D. and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 713 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides engineers and scientists with a single source introduction to the concepts, models, and case studies for making credible reliability assessments. It satisfies the need for thorough discussions of several fundamental subjects. Section I contains a comprehensive overview of assessing and assuring reliability that is followed by discussions of: • Concept of randomness and its relationship to chaos • Uses and limitations of the binomial and Poisson distributions • Relationship of the chi-square method and Poisson curves • Derivations and applications of the exponential, Weibull, and lognormal models • Examination of the human mortality bathtub curve as a template for components Section II introduces the case study modeling of failure data and is followed by analyses of: • 5 sets of ideal Weibull, lognormal, and normal failure data • 83 sets of actual (real) failure data The intent of the modeling was to find the best descriptions of the failures using statistical life models, principally the Weibull, lognormal, and normal models, for characterizing the failure probability distributions of the times-, cycles-, and miles-to-failure during laboratory or field testing. The statistical model providing the preferred characterization was determined empirically by choosing the two-parameter model that gave the best straight-line fit in the failure probability plots using a combination of visual inspection and three statistical goodness-of-fit (GoF) tests. This book offers practical insight in dealing with single item reliability and illustrates the use of reliability methods to solve industry problems.

As treatments have become more sophisticated in fighting disease and saving lives, the role nutrition support has become recognized as vital to patient care. The most current evidence based practice in the field is implemented to provide the best nutrition care to those in need. Selecting patients whom benefit from nutrition intervention is an important responsibility of the healthcare team, which includes identification of malnutrition. This area of practice demands an understanding of indications for the route of nutrition support, knowledge of access devices, and components of ordering and monitoring nutrition support regimes. Enteral nutrition has become the most utilized form of nutrition support, while parenteral nutrition remains a life sustaining measure for those with loss of gastrointestinal function. The variety of enteral formulas available is vast, and understanding indications and use is an ongoing challenge. Several ethical issues surrounding nutrition support, with end of life situations being a common dilemma. Application of evidence based practice in certain disease states and conditions demands literature review, collaboration, and implementation of identified best practices.

Book Molecules Into Materials Case Studies In Materials Chemistry Mixed Valency Magnetism And Superconductivity

Download or read book Molecules Into Materials Case Studies In Materials Chemistry Mixed Valency Magnetism And Superconductivity written by Peter Day and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007-01-24 with total page 607 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last decade has seen the emergence and explosive growth of a new field of condensed matter science: materials chemistry. Transcending the traditional boundaries of organic, inorganic and physical chemistry, this new approach aims to create new molecular and lattice ensembles with unusual physical properties. One of its pioneers, the author has worked on structure-property relations in the inorganic and metal-organic solid state for over 40 years. His seminal work on mixed-valency compounds and inorganic charge transfer spectra in the 1960s set the scene for this new type of chemistry, and his discovery of transparent metal-organic ferromagnets in the 1970s laid the ground rules for much current work on molecular magnets. He has also published extensively on molecular metals and superconductors, especially on charge transfer salts combining conductivity with magnetism. This indispensable volume brings together for the first time a selection of his articles on all these topics, grouped according to theme. Each group is prefaced by a brief introduction for the general reader, putting the articles into their context in the evolution of the subject and describing the intellectual circumstances in which each project was conceived and executed.
