Book Some Observations on the Basic Chemistry of Plutonium

Download or read book Some Observations on the Basic Chemistry of Plutonium written by E. S. Maxwell and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On prolonged heating in dilute nitric acid (0.5M to 6.8M) a considerable amount of Pu(+4) is oxidized to Pu(+8). Precipitation of the plus three plutonium oxalate is complete in fifteen minutes. Oxidation of Pu(+4) to Pu(+8) by bromine is quantitative at 105 deg C after 1/2 hour; at 50 deg C the rate of oxidation is slow, but measurable. At room temperature the rate is too slow to measure. A method of converting PuC13 to Pu(NO3)4 is given. A solubility of NaPuO2Ac3 increases with temperature the value at 25 deg C being 19.5 g/iiter and that at 95 deg C, 37.5 g/liter. Supersaturation was observed on slow cooling of a saturated solution. p2.

Book Uranium Plutonium Transplutonic Elements

Download or read book Uranium Plutonium Transplutonic Elements written by Harold C. Hodge and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 1037 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than a year ago the three editors sat down at a table and worked out a set of six chapter headings which they believed might serve, in turn, for each of the three sections of this handbook. (The reader will note a similarity in order of presentation and in emphasis.) However, as our editorial plans progressed it became apparent that for each element and for the element group, there were one or two special topics appropiate for that section alone. Accordingly, in the section on uranium the common pattern holds for Chaps. 1 through 6 which include: an introduction (Chap. 1), a discussion of the physical and chemical properties (Chap. 2), experimental data on animals (Chap. 3), ex perimental data on man (Chap. 4), the rationale and development of air con centration limits to control industrial worker exposure (Chap. 5), and the prac tical problems of applying such limits in the uranium industry (Chap. 6). Chap. 7 entitled "Uranium Mining Hazards" is the subject category which is special for uranium; the chapter brings up to date the account of an important occupational hazard which was first noted by GEORGIUS AGRICOLA (1490-1555).

Book Chemical Thermodynamics of Neptunium and Plutonium

Download or read book Chemical Thermodynamics of Neptunium and Plutonium written by Robert J. Lemire and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-08-26 with total page 876 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlike earlier books in this series, this review describes the selection of chemical thermodynamic data for species of two elements, neptunium and plutonium. Although this came about more by circumstance than design, it has allowed for a more consistent approach to chemical interpretation than might have occurred in two separate treatments. It has also drawn attention to cases where the available data do not show expected parallels, and where further work may be useful to confirm or refute apparent differences in the behaviour of neptunium and plutonium.

Book excerpt: One girl's search to find her father, using the internet, some boys and quite a lot of hairspray from debut YA novelist Ellie Phillips. Sadie Nathanson spends her life trying to survive the excruciating embarrassment of simply existing. It's hard enough being a bit of a shrinking violet within a loud and outspoken extended family, but the unexpected card from 'Dad' on her 15th birthday is the last straw. As 'Dad' was an Internet sperm-donor, it doesn't take a genius to work out that this is a bad joke, probably set up by her ex-best-friend Shonna. But it starts Sadie wondering - just who was her father? Is he the cause of her worry crinkle and wonky bum? What would happen if she tracked him down? So she decides to do just that. With help from her nerd cousin Billy, his friend Nodding Tony and a regular dose of 'Haironomics' (Sadie's own hairstyle-related philosophy system), they uncover a lot more than they bargain for... A story with wit, warmth and knicker-wetting embarrassment , Ellie Phillips is a vibrant new voice in teen fiction. Dad's, Geeks and Blue Haired Freaks is one of the most original books for young adults you'll ever read - perfect for girls moving on from Louise Rennison and Cathy Cassidy.

Book Plutonium in the Environment

Download or read book Plutonium in the Environment written by A. Kudo and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-02-23 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume of the new series, Radioactivity in the Environment, focuses on the environmental occurrence, the speciation, the behaviour, the fate, the applications and the health consequences of that much-feared and much-publicised element, plutonium. Featuring a collection of selected, peer-reviewed, up-to-date papers by leading researchers in the field, this work provides a state-of-the-art description of plutonium in the environment. This title helps to explain where present frontiers are drawn in our continuing efforts to understand the science of environmental plutonium and will help to place widespread concerns into perspective. As a whole this new book series on environmental radioactivity addresses, at academic research level, the key aspects of this socially important and complex interdisciplinary subject. Presented objectively and with the ultimate authority gained from the many contributions by the world's leading experts, the negative and positive consequences of having a radioactive world around us will be documented and given perspective.
