God blessed him with writing skills to communicate God's word and will to the people during the current stressful economic times and turmoil in the world. As this is Herbert's second published book Herbert again called on God to use him as a vehicle to reach as many people as possible who were distraught, discouraged, anxious and worried about the future. Herbert called on God to use him as an instrument to communicate to these people that they need to possess the qualities of patience, persistence, perseverance, and positivity to live the blessed and abundant lives God intended for them. These qualities are paramount to living abundant and joyful lives. God loves us and wants us to enrich our lives with these qualities.

Download or read book Perseverance written by Tim Hague and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2018-05-08 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An inspiring story of beating the odds and learning to overcome--no matter what life hands you. After starting a family and flourishing in his career, Tim Hague was struck by misfortune. The irritating tremor in his foot turned out to be early onset Parkinson's disease. He was only 46 years old. But what seemed to be an end became a new beginning. Just three years later, Hague won the inaugural The Amazing Race Canada (with his son, Tim Jr., as his teammate). His remarkable life story shows that perseverance is not just a matter of willpower: it is a skill that can be learned and honed. And perseverance is the theme of his life. From the day he was born, Hague has gone from one struggle to another. Yet, remarkably, he doesn't have a trace of self-pity. In fact, he feels blessed. From his tough start in life as an unwanted mixed-race baby born in Texas in 1964, to his eventual move to the unforgiving climate of Winnipeg, Canada, to start a family under difficult circumstances, and his continuing battle with Parkinson's--Hague's life is a roadmap of perseverance. Parkinson's has forced him to retire early from the work he loves as a registered nurse. But as a healthcare professional, and now suffering from a challenging disease himself, Hague discusses living with Parkinson's like no one else could. He now works with charities to help promote Parkinson's awareness and his "Live Your Best" message. Drawing on his experience winning The Amazing Race, and referencing cutting-edge research and studies, Hague weaves a moving story of failure and success, outlining the elements of his philosophy that anyone can apply to their own lives, including: * The nature of luck: Luck comes to those who keep trying until the end--never stop until the race is over. * Find community: As a nurse, a husband and father, and a man living with Parkinson's, Hague knows better than most that we all need to ask for help sometimes, and that's a good thing. * Accept limits: By focusing on what we can do, we accomplish more than we ever thought possible. * Cease striving: We think of striving as a positive attribute, but all we end up doing is banging our heads against the wall. Have goals, but have fun. Do not create anxiety out of nothing and maintain perspective. * Live Your Best: No such thing as giving 110%--can only do your best. Inspirational and entertaining, Hague's message is both simple and profound: perseverance isn't just something a person has, or a trait we admire in others. Hague's book, like his life, is a guide to how we can all learn to persevere in the face of daily struggles--or even life-changing illness.

  • Pages : 170 pages

Download or read book Perseverance written by Margaret J. Wheatley and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2010-09-27 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this inspiring and beautifully illustrated book, bestselling author Margaret Wheatley offers guidance to people everywhere for how to persevere through challenges in their personal lives, with their families, at their workplaces, in their communities, and in their struggles to make a better world. She provides hope, wisdom, and perspective for learning the discipline of perseverance. Wheatley does not offer the usual feel-good, rah-rah messages. Instead, she focuses on the situations, feelings, and challenges that can, over time, cause us to lose heart or lose our way. Perseverance is a day-by-day decision not to give up. We have to notice the moments when we feel lost or overwhelmed or betrayed or exhausted and note how we respond to them. And we have to notice the rewarding times, when we experience the joy of working together on something hard but worthwhile, when we realize we've made a small difference. In a series of concise and compassionate essays Wheately names a behavior or dynamic—such as fearlessness, guilt, joy, jealousy—that supports or impedes our efforts to persevere. She puts each in a broader human or timeless perspective, offering ways to either live by or transcend each one. These essays are self-contained—you can thumb through the book and find what attracts you in the moment. Perseverance helps you to see yourself and your situation clearly and assume responsibility for changing a situation or our reaction to it if it's one that troubles us. There deliberately are no examples of other people or their experiences. You are the example—your personal experiences are the basis for change. In addition to Wheatley's graceful essays there are poems and quotations drawn from traditions and cultures around the world and throughout history. The book is deeply grounded spiritually, accessing human experience and wisdom from many sources. This grounding and inclusiveness support the essential message—human being throughout time have persevered. We're just the most recent ones to face these challenges, and we can meet them as those who came before us did. As Wheatley quotes the elders of the Hopi Nation: “We are the ones we have been waiting for.”

Book They Who Endure to the End

Download or read book They Who Endure to the End written by Everett Berry and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-07-30 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it possible for a true believer in Christ to apostatize? If so, how? Also, how can professing believers know if they are truly born again? What assurance can they have that they will never renounce their faith? These questions have been asked for centuries as Christians have wrestled with what Scripture says about these matters. The search for answers has instilled strong disagreements among Christian traditions. In this book, we navigate the terrain of this debate by examining the pertinent biblical data, surveying the history of major views that have been advocated by various denominations, and offering a synthesis of all this material in the hopes that readers can see how Scripture assures believers of their security in Christ.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of my favorite stories: Once upon a time a friend of mine died. She told me God received her into heaven where she met Peter. He welcomed her and showed her around heaven. It was the most beautiful place you can imagine! They came upon an area with the most beautiful boxes you have ever seen. My friend asked, "What are those beautiful boxes?" Peter answered, "Those belong to all of God's children." She was so excited to find out if she had one. "Yes," Peter said, "Over there - that's yours with the blue and rainbow colors." "Wow," said my friend, "May I open it?" "I would not," Peter advised. But my friend insisted. When she opened it, inside she saw everything she had never asked God for, but had always wanted. Overwhelmed, she exclaimed, "All I had to do was ask God and believe and wait on Him for all of this?!" "Yes," Peter replied, "God was waiting for you to ask, believe, and persevere for these with Him and He would have given you the Power to Persevere until it was His Divine Timing." God reminded me that we all have desires in our hearts. We have longings, wants, prayers, and questions that He alone can answer! His desire is to answer us and give us the desires of our hearts. God reminded me that in Jeremiah 33:3, He says to call upon Him and He will answer. I decided right then and there, when I get to heaven, I want my box to be empty! How about you?! If you are having a hard time persevering through your trials, circumstances, situations, and matters of the heart, then this book is for you. It will help you learn how to receive God's power to persevere so you too will find your beautiful box empty! P.S. My friend was returned to earth to tell us this story so we may have the opportunity to choose to learn how to find the Power of Perseverance with God. Polly Sanders-Peterson

Download or read book Perseverance written by William G Covington, Jr PhD and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2021-04-28 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the current social upheaval in the world today, some individuals seem to become exhausted with life choices and goals, leading people not to pursue their dreams. Grit is missing from our society. However, there is an answer to achieving one's objectives and improving as individuals. Indeed, the answer is God, who helps us, as Christians, overcome obstacles, and reach our full potential, to serve God, who gives us the perseverance in overcoming earthly barriers. Dr. William G. Covington, Jr, provides a template to follow, which combines Bible teachings and other forms of application, such as extensive research, theory, and real-world applications, to negate the psychological noise that continues to impede our progress as both Christians and Homo Sapiens. Dr. Covington's book, Perseverance: The power that gets results, he challenges the reader to remove toxic thoughts through Biblical readings, which transform individuals in reaching their full potentials through the Word of God. The book highlights how by submitting to God, we as Christians, develop into warriors on earth, who can both design, and transform ourselves and others, through perseverance, which allows us to be free, and practice Christian principles, thus overcoming earthly obstacles. Implementing these practices allows for a paradigm shift in a world that tells us we can achieve goals without effort. This is especially valid in our modern-day world of social media technologies, which informs society; technology can take something complicated and make it accessible by only exerting minimal effort. Dr. Covington's timely book showcases that through the combination of God's Word's and principles, and incorporating these principles into His followers' lives, Dr. Covington creates a reality that develops character and submission to God. This is an inspirational book that is timely for a generation that needs God's teachings. These principles, which urge us, as individuals, to preserve through this world and develop our characters, by changing the template, from instant gratification to working diligently to overcome roadblocks, which produce success. Dr. Covington's book helps to create people equipped to sustain and prosper in modern society, thus building a robust, Christian world, where individuals are unafraid of meeting this legacy, by removing toxic thoughts through perseverance.

Book Perseverance and Apostasy in the New Testament

Download or read book Perseverance and Apostasy in the New Testament written by Dongsu Kim and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2022-05-27 with total page 637 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perseverance and Apostasy in the New Testament thoroughly examines all the New Testament texts relevant to the controversial questions of whether a genuine believer can apostatize and/or whether an apostate can be restored. The primary contribution of the book lies in the in-depth exegesis of the relevant New Testament Greek texts against the socio-historical circumstances of each faith community in the New Testament. The book inductively shows that the New Testament writers maintain a uniform perception on perseverance and apostasy based on Jesus’ words that bear upon the subject described in the Gospels. It also illuminates questions of the relationship between God’s sovereignty and human responsibility, the role of the Holy Spirit for the believer’s perseverance, and the role of Satan for the apostates’ falling away. The book is a needed addition to earlier works on perseverance and apostasy. ENDORSEMENTS The debate over the issues of perseverance and apostasy will likely remain in the church until the coming of Christ. Many despair of ever coming to a definitive conclusion, often contending that the biblical evidence is inconsistent and beyond resolution. Don Kim’s near-exhaustive analysis of the relevant NT texts proves otherwise. He is thoroughly conversant with virtually all contributors to this subject and his meticulous contribution will surely prove to be the standard for future dialogue. Anyone who proposes to engage with this controversial matter cannot afford to overlook this remarkably helpful and insightful book. Dr. Sam Storms, Lead Pastor of Bridgeway Church, Oklahoma City Enjoying God Ministries Don Kim has written an amazingly thorough and careful study on perseverance and apostasy in the New Testament. Scholars disagree on how to interpret these difficult passages, but Kim defends well his own understanding, and his important study will have to be reckoned with in future work on this controversial topic. Dr. Thomas R. Schreiner, James Buchanan Harrison Professor of New Testament Interpretation and Professor of Biblical Theology The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Perseverance and Apostasy in the New Testament is a well-executed and thorough examination of New Testament texts that bear upon or otherwise illuminate the difficult question of whether a true believer can apostatize. The author neither avoids difficult questions nor skirts challenging texts. Rather, he carefully works his way through each relevant New Testament text’s central exegetical questions, offering judicious insights and integrating those insights into a collective explanation. I found some of my own assumptions challenged while reading this book. I am happy to recommend it as a helpful addition to—and sometimes needed correction of—earlier works on perseverance. Dr. Kenneth Berding, Professor of New Testament Talbot School of Theology at Biola University Perseverance and Apostasy in the New Testament concentrates on the crucial questions of whether genuine believers in Jesus could apostatize and whether the NT presents a consistent picture on that very issue—by providing a careful exegetical treatment of numerous passages across the New Testament, beginning with the Synoptics and John’s Gospel, walking through Acts and the letters, and completing with the book of Revelation. One’s theological presuppositions will, of course, affect how he/she receives and responds to Kim’s case. It will also be unrealistic to expect even those agreeing passionately with Kim to concur on every detail in a tome of this magnitude. Yet, undoubtedly, Perseverance and Apostasy in the New Testament proves to be an essential reading for pastors and theological students who (should) wrestle with the issue of perseverance and apostasy and the relevant biblical texts to form their own conclusions. This well-written book will serve its readers effectively by sharpening or challenging their views, if not both. Dr. John Lee, Associate Professor of New Testament Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary This substantial study by Dongsu Kim is a decisive demonstration of the historic doctrine of the perseverance of the saints taught and defended by the Reformed tradition. “Perseverance and Apostasy in the New Testament” provides a thoroughly biblical and hermeneutically and canonically sensitive study. Kim’s exposition is scholarly, rigorous and articulate. He argues persuasively that the various biblical writers’ engagements with apostasy are consonant with the Scriptures’ declarations of divine sovereign grace in salvation. “Perseverance and apostasy in the New Testament” is an extensive arsenal of biblical and theological insights that will be of value for exegetes and theologians alike. Dr. Peter A. Lillback, president, Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia The Reformed doctrine of perseverance of the saints has recently been tremendously challenged and egregiously distorted. For example, the New Perspective on Paul has seriously rejected the traditional wisdom, advocating revisions not only of the doctrine of perseverance but also justification. In response to these criticisms, challenges and distortions, this book provides a most comprehensive and compelling antidote with profoundly detailed and meticulous exegetical engagements with the New Testament texts. Dr. Kim did an excellent job in presenting a powerful and persuasive case for God’s gracious and faithful preservation of true believers in Christ. This is a masterpiece and must read for anyone interested in Scripture’s teachings about the ideas of perseverance and apostasy. Dr. Sung Wook Chung, Professor of Christian Theology Denver Seminary Kim asks whether New Testament authors maintain a consistent theology of perseverance and apostasy or not. Is it conceivable that divinely inspired authors contradict each other with different theologies of perseverance and apostasy? Or must we admit they contradict each other and deny plenary verbal inspiration of Scripture? Kim is fully aware that no scholar asks these questions without theological presuppositions which predetermine his answers. He himself enters this hermeneutical circle with his own working definitions of perseverance and apostasy. He challenges himself and his readers allow the New Testament itself to revise and refine our theological presuppositions and working definitions. Kim is also aware of the error of selective evidence. To avoid it, he chooses passages from the entire New Testament that he deems critical to understanding the subject of perseverance and apostasy. Kim’s book is new essential reading for everybody who wants to formulate a comprehensive New Testament theology of perseverance and apostasy. Dr. Andrew D. Parlee, Professor of Systematic Theology Greater Europe Mission, Thirdmill Seminary

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a riveting and emotionally charged with information on the plight of African American males and their transformations from the boyhood to manhood. By plight, I mean the conditions, problems, and difficulties that prohibit our young gifted African American males from becoming viable, useful, successful, productive citizens in our society. The reader will discover compelling and disturbing information, which is subtle and provocative, in the book about what it means to be alive in the twenty-first century, especially, but not exclusively, for young African American males. The transformation of the African American male is one of the greatest challenges that has confronted the African American community. This is not merely one-dimensional or a single-layer problem. I believe that the enormity, complexity, and scope of the crisis of the African American males are astounding in the American society today. In many ways, it is a kin to a tsunami that possesses the potential to annihilate everything in its wake. One can pick up this book, and it will become part of you until you reach the end, for it is one of the most interesting and creative books you will ever read. This incredible story is about how the plight of one’s life can be turned around through the process of transformation of the African American male.
