Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three tales of holy men falling for forbidden women. In Pleasure Rites, a young monk is given the chance to redeem himself from scandal when he is called upon to train Lady Chanyn and her two bonded mates in the orgasmic arts. But what starts as a simple ritual soon turns carnal when the monk’s heart begins to yearn for the woman, and hers for his. In Carnal Rites, a former pleasure hound falls in love with an upper-class woman he can never have. When her fiance approaches him for training in the arts of the marriage bed, he cannot refuse anything that will bring her happiness -even as it crushes his heart. The two rivals set aside their differences for a common goal and, unexpectedly, come to enjoy each other. When Lady Merlyn uncovers their secret, she is torn between the hound she’s loved since she was a young girl and the man who would do anything to rule her heart. In Sacred Rites, prim and proper Lady Alyss secretly becomes the muse of a former pleasure hound turned artist. The sensual painter and his husband are both drawn to her, even as she is pitted against them in a legal battle over men's rights. With her future on the line in the case, she can't afford to give in to the two men's sensual pastimes. So why is she posing nearly nude with her legs spread, her hands bound, and her eyes closed in the ecstasy known as rope bliss? Also included for the box set are two short stories featuring your favorite pleasure monk, Jian, in two bonus epilogues with his new bondmates.

Book excerpt: What starts as a simple ritual soon turns carnal when a monk falls for a betrothed woman under his tutelage. Growing up in a world where men outnumber women ten to one, I escape a lonely existence and become a Pleasure Monk. When one of our precious, rare women chooses the men who will be her protectors and bondmates, I instruct them in the art of feminine pleasure. Though I can never find a love of my own, at least I have a purpose in teaching others to cater to a woman's every sexual need. Or I had a purpose. My services were sought after by many bonded females. Until the day I screwed up. Literally. Now I have a final chance to redeem myself. If I fail again, the entire Order of Pleasure Monks is in jeopardy. However, when I meet my new charge, all my plans crumble into dust. Lady Chanyn is pure perfection, a blessing from the Goddess, who awakens my heart and my loins. I will risk anything to have her—my brothers, my vows, my future. I will not stop until she is mine.

Book excerpt: What starts as an uneasy truce, soon turns carnal when two rivals vie for the object of their desire. I’ve been in love with Lady Merlyn since we were children. But as a servant, I’ve always known she was beyond my reach. Her betrothed had me thrown out of her house in a fit of jealousy. Since then I’ve survived as a Pleasure Hound, selling my body to rich women just to keep food in my belly. But Merlyn has never left my heart. Now, all these years later, the same man who ruined my life comes to me with his hand out seeking my services in learning the art of pleasuring Merlyn. I want to refuse him, but the promise of pleasing her and ensuring her happiness is too great. What starts as an uneasy truce between me and my greatest enemy soon turns carnal when Merlyn learns of the secret lessons… and demands to be included. Two men want her heart, but what happens when what Merlyn wants is both of us—together? Once I have her in my arms, I vow I’ll never let her go. If that means holding on to him as well, it may not be the hardship I always thought.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As their ubiquitous presence in Tokugawa artwork and literature suggests, images of bourgeois wives and courtesans took on iconic status as representations of two opposing sets of female values. Their differences, both real and idealized, indicate the full range of female roles and sexual values affirmed by Tokugawa society, with Buddhist celibacy on the one end and the relatively free sexual associations of the urban and rural lower classes on the other. The roles of courtesan and bourgeois housewife were each tied to a set of value-based behaviors, the primary institution to which a woman belonged, and rituals that sought to model a woman’s comportment in her interactions with men and figures of authority. For housewives, it was fertility values, promulgated by lifestyle guides and moral texts, which embraced the ideals of female obedience, loyalty to the husband’s household, and sexual activity aimed at producing an heir. Pleasure values, by contrast, flourished in the prostitution quarters and embraced playful relations and nonreproductive sexual activity designed to increase the bordello’s bottom line. What William Lindsey reveals in this well-researched study is that, although the values that idealized the role of wife and courtesan were highly disparate, the rituals, symbols, and popular practices both engaged in exhibited a degree of similitude and parallelism. Fertility and Pleasure examines the rituals available to young women in the household and pleasure quarters that could be employed to affirm, transcend, or resist these sets of sexual values. In doing so it affords new views of Tokugawa society and Japanese religion. Highly original in its theoretical approach and its juxtaposition of texts, Fertility and Pleasure constitutes an important addition to the fields of Japanese religion and history and the study of gender and sexuality in other societies and cultures.

Book excerpt: A daring invitation to discover and claim your identity and purpose, and to embrace the freedom to thrive right where you are “A wise, gentle, and compelling vision of what needs to be consecrated in a woman’s life—the deaths and the births of hope.”—Dan B. Allender, PhD, founding president of the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology Every woman wants wholeness—to be at home in her body, in her relationships, in her life. But women too often feel that they don’t belong to themselves. The path to wholeness, to a woman belonging to herself, is formidable, and women know they can’t travel it alone. Author, teacher, and therapist Dr. Christy Angelle Bauman has dedicated her life to guiding women on this path to meaning and profound joy. In Her Rites, Dr. Bauman takes you into her office and through six transformative exercises: a deep dive into the most common rites of passage in every woman’s life, when she sometimes loses hold of herself but also has a unique opportunity to reclaim herself. • Birth: claiming how and why you came into the world • Initiation: coming of age • Exile: finding yourself • Creation: bringing something new into the world • Intuition: acquiring embodied wisdom that comes later in life • Legacy: living with emotional and spiritual readiness for one’s own death These rites help women to find wholeness and self-knowledge. Included in Her Rites are ritual templates and exercises that Dr. Bauman employs with her clients, which will help any woman incorporate the principles of self-reclamation into her daily life. Dr. Bauman has seen again and again that by learning to pause and to reflect on these key moments, we can come home to ourselves and receive the gift of flourishing.

Book Rites Rituals Religions

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philosophers have contemplated the meaning of life, the who & the why, since nascent self-consciousness of the evolving hominid species. Yet practical efforts, i.e., control of life, have always transcended the philosophical: how to dominate what happens to the physical body itself, how to control the environment, and the interaction therefrom. Thus are born rites, rituals & religions. A rite can be a prescribed religious or other solemn ceremony or act it can be a social custom or practice, or even a mundane conventional act. A ritual can be the established form for a ceremony, the order of words used for example; a ritual observance can be either a system of ceremonial acts or actions, or an act or series of acts regularly repeated in a set precise manner. Religion generally encompasses a socio-cultural system of designated behaviors and practices, morals, beliefs, worldviews, texts, sanctified places, prophecies, ethics, or organizations, that relates humanity to supernatural, transcendental, and spiritual elements. Religion is a set of beliefs, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances (rites and rituals). Control efforts highlighted in this volume range from prehistoric cave paintings, Amerindian ceremonies, Christian denominational (especially Roman Catholic), traditions & Afro-Caribbean syncretic rites, to crossovers, which deal with the more socio-cultural rites of passage like the quinceanera, and/or dance rites & rituals like the Southern Cone tango, African candombe, Cuban habanera and European waltzes and polkas and the corrida, from the public ritual known as tauromaquia. The premise behind this comparative volume is to discover how rites, rituals & religions are addressed in real life in these divergent societies by exploring the visual and literary representations of control. Rites, Rituals and Religions is eighth and final volume in the Hispanic Worlds series
