Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Please, Step into my Office is a book that chronicles the authors multiple unique experiences that occurred during his 16 year career as a bartender. Sigmund Freud developed the therapeutic technique known as Free Association; Free Association is where a patient reports their thoughts without reservation and makes no attempt to concentrate while doing so. Outside of a professional therapist office, in the authors opinion, the bar setting is next likeliest place where Free Association is occurs. The author has met celebrities, people who work in extraordinary professions, and amazing every day people who have shared unsolicited glimpses of the people they are, the places they have been, and the things they have seen. The book is formatted as a collection of short stories, each with their own beginning, ending, and individual plot and theme. The one common denominator that permeates throughout the entirety of the book is the acquisition of knowledge and personal growth experienced by the author due to the encounters with the protagonist of each short story. The author hopes that the reader will find the book to be an easy read that is both entertaining and informative. So, with no further ado, Please, Step into my Office.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: French professor Georgie Bricker hasn’t poked a toe outside Virginia’s Willa Cather College for women in two decades. She realizes the irony: she’s working to shape her students into world leaders even as PTSD-induced agoraphobia, a result of trauma she suffered as a girl, keeps her prisoner on a tiny college campus. She tells herself her life is fine. Yet on her forty-ninth birthday, she wishes for something extraordinary. Georgie is shattered to learn that her sanctuary is heavily in debt. While she scrambles to rescue the French department, her first love, Truman Parker, arrives to serve as a financial consultant to the school. By day, Georgie works as faculty liaison to his committee. By night, she’s a moth to his porch light. When the college announces it will shutter, Georgie and fiercely independent Laurel Cross, the student who’s closest to Georgie’s heart, organize a rally to save it. Between her rekindled love for Truman and Laurel becoming the daughter she never had, her wish for the extraordinary seems to have been granted. But the pivotal rally forces Georgie into the bigger, unsheltered world, where she must confront her final fears—or forfeit her chance for emotional freedom and a fulfilling new life.

Book Torn the Melissa Williams Story

Download or read book Torn the Melissa Williams Story written by Ella Campbell and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2011-01-19 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Melissa Williams, a small town Alabama girl, takes you on her journey as she goes through a very difficult time in her life. Although her high school years were quite memorable, there is one moment in time that stands out more than others. Melissa and three of her closest friends often find themselves hanging out at night clubs. The fact that it was usually on school nights didn't matter much to them. But, on one night in particular, they return to the Club after having left already and this one decision changes Melissa’s life forever. Because of her troubled past, she struggles in relationships with men. But just when she thinks she has it all figured out, an accusation of infidelity causes her to question herself even more. She doesn’t know what to do about it nor does she know where to turn for advice. Melissa’s faith in God is put to the test when that accusation forces her to deal with a seemingly corrupted legal system in Florida. Just like many of us, Melissa wants to do the right things and make better choices, but she keeps finding herself going around in circles and ending up with the same results. Although she is somewhat limited, she doesn’t limit herself to other possibilities of happiness. Will she choose the path of least resistance or will she continue on a path that keeps her torn and caught in the middle? After reading this book, you will begin to look at your own life's struggles in the same way that Melissa had to eventually do. Although Melissa's decisions may not have all worked in her favor at the time, she learned how to depend on the people that God placed in her path.

Book Just Conversations

Download or read book Just Conversations written by Cas Erchamion and published by Western English Services. This book was released on 2014-07-15 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the title implies, this book is just about conversations. I wrote it to give my students ample material for speaking practice. An educator can discuss with students and/or dissect the dialogues contained in this book, as only he or she can do. There are a loads of idioms, phrasal verbs and colloquial expressions for a wide variety of situations and topics. The vocabulary in each dialogue is challenging but not unfamiliar or unusual. If you are a student, the idea is to get used to collocations and colloquialism. Practice, Practice, practice! In addition, the dialogues were composed for Jr. High School ~ Freshman University level students. In other words, the grammar found within the dialogues doesn't stray too far from levels most students are used to seeing in their respective school exams. After 17 years teaching university level ESL classes, I've found that practice, practice, and practice are the top three methods of improving speaking ability.

Book Government Bullies

Download or read book Government Bullies written by Rand Paul and published by Center Street. This book was released on 2012-09-11 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Government regulations are out of control. They dictate how much water goes into your commode, and how much water comes out of your showerhead. They determine how hot the water needs to be in your washing machine, and how many miles to the gallon your car must achieve. Since the Patriot Act, your banking records, your gun registration, and your phone bill are easily accessible by government snoops. Mothers are arrested for buying raw milk. Families are fined for selling bunny rabbits without a license. Home and property owners are strapped with obscene fines, entangled in costly legal messes, and sent to federal prison, all for moving dirt from one end of their land to another. Unelected bureaucrats, armed with arbitrary rules and no need to back them up, stonewall and attack American citizens at every turn. The damage can be overwhelmingly taxing -- -financially, emotionally and even physically. And who is being held accountable? Government regulation and red tape run amok in Washington, and honest, tax-paying citizens are the victims of an administration's misuse and abuse of power. Now, Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, takes an in-depth look at the legislation that is trampling the rights of ordinary citizens, strangling their ability to conduct private, everyday activities without egregious government interference. He highlights outrageous searches, seizures and arrests, and points to thousands of regulations that have been added to the books since Obama took office. Most importantly, he charts a direction out of this mess, and toward renewed freedom for all Americans. These stories are of everyday Americans badgered and harassed by their own government -- -the very institution that is supposed to serve us all. This gross breach of our constitution is as frightening as it is real, and Goverment Bullies is a call to action against it.

Reluctant at first, Pendergast soon discovers that the killings are a message from his wife's kidnappers. But why a message? And what does it mean? When the kidnappers strike again at those closest to Pendergast, the FBI agent, filled anew with vengeful fury, sets out to track down and destroy those responsible. His journey takes him deep into the trackless forests of South America, where he ultimately finds himself face to face with an old evil that-rather than having been eradicated-is stirring anew... and with potentially world-altering consequences.
